Patch 8 did not directly buff ten named items. Larian’s final notes document a spell update and several item or weapon interaction fixes. The patch also added twelve subclasses, which can make some existing gear more appealing for particular builds—but that is synergy, not an item buff. Here are the confirmed changes, followed by ten gear-related options to consider with the new subclasses, clearly marked where the connection is build advice rather than a patch change.
What Patch 8 actually changed
Released April 15, 2025, Patch 8 was described by Larian as its last major patch to add new content. Its headline additions included twelve subclasses, cross-play, and Photo Mode. The final notes do not support a list of ten items receiving direct buffs.
Elemental Weapon: a spell update, not a permanent item buff
Larian’s final notes say: “Updated Elemental Weapon to allow all damage types at all spell levels and include upcast benefits at Levels 5 and 6.” This makes the spell more flexible when enhancing a weapon; it does not permanently change a named weapon’s stats. Read Larian Studios’ Patch 8 notes.
Fixed weapon and item interactions
- Shadow Blade and Knife of the Undermountain King: Patch 8 fixed their relevant Advantage interaction against obscured targets. This corrects an interaction that was not working as intended; it is not evidence of a broad weapon rebalance.
- Valiant Damage: The damage effect was fixed to trigger properly.
- Jhannyl’s Gloves: The gloves were fixed to trigger Defy Villainy, which casts Lesser Restoration.
These fixes can make the affected effects work as intended, but they do not turn every item into a newly buffed piece of gear.

Other changes that affect item use, not item power
- A successful Perception check now pings a spotted item on the minimap and displays it in the combat log. That improves discovery feedback, not the item’s combat stats.
- A blocker that prevented a character from using any item while Knocked Down was fixed, and inventories—especially those containing many items—were optimized. These are usability and performance changes.
Ten gear-related ideas for Patch 8 builds
The entries below are build directions, not a ranking of ten items buffed by Patch 8. Xbox Wire’s official Patch 8 overview confirms the subclass additions and describes their themes, but it does not rank existing gear or establish item-by-item best choices. The pairings below therefore stay at the level the official descriptions support: consider gear that serves the subclass’s combat role, and check an item’s actual stats, acquisition, and action costs in your game before committing. See the official subclass overview.
Arcane Archer: ranged weapons for special arrow attacks
Arcane Archer’s special arrow attacks make a ranged-weapon-focused equipment setup a natural fit. Patch 8 added the subclass; it did not buff a particular bow or crossbow. Choose a weapon based on the stats and effects available in your campaign rather than assuming a specific named weapon gained power.

- Explore an enchanting realm populated by adversaries; Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack
Way of the Drunken Master: alcohol as a build consideration
Larian describes the Drunken Master as interacting with alcohol. That makes alcohol-related gear or consumables worth considering for a character built around the subclass’s mechanics. This is a thematic and mechanical build connection, not a Patch 8 item buff or a claim that any particular drink is optimal.
Swarmkeeper: equipment that supports the character’s combat role
The Swarmkeeper uses creature-based effects. Treat equipment as support for the role you want the character to play—such as staying effective at range or surviving near enemies—rather than looking for a supposedly newly enhanced “swarm” item. The official overview establishes the subclass theme, not a specific gear pairing.

Hexblade: a weapon-centered loadout
Hexblade’s bound weapon and curse point toward a weapon-centered build. Existing weapons may suit that approach, but Patch 8’s subclass announcement does not identify a best weapon or say that a weapon’s stats changed. Compare the gear you can actually obtain with your chosen build and difficulty.
Bladesinger: gear for combining blade and spell
Bladesinger is described as combining blade-and-spell combat. That makes equipment choices for a character who alternates between weapon use and spellcasting relevant to the subclass. No particular item is established by the official overview as newly stronger or universally best.

Five more subclass gear choices: match equipment to your role
The official overview establishes twelve new subclasses, but the available item-specific notes and subclass descriptions do not justify five additional named-item recommendations. For the remaining subclasses, choose equipment around the character’s actual role, abilities, and campaign availability; do not count those choices as Patch 8 item buffs. A specific “best ten” list would require reliable item statistics and verified subclass interactions that the official overview does not provide.

In a February 6, 2025 stress-test update, Larian reported an inventory condition-loss bug that could remove Elemental Cleaver’s buff when an imbued weapon was thrown. That is a documented testing issue, not proof that the same bug remained in the April 15 final release. Larian’s February 26 stress-test update also described the Elemental Weapon change and fixes to Valiant Damage and Jhannyl’s Gloves; for what shipped, the final release notes are the controlling source.

How to read “better after Patch 8”
- Direct change: Elemental Weapon became more flexible; the named weapon and glove interactions above were fixed.
- Build synergy: New subclasses can make an existing equipment role more relevant, but that does not mean an item itself changed.
- Not established: The final notes do not identify ten direct item buffs or publish a ranked list of best items for the new subclasses.
