Yes—free Dolly Dolly Dolly gently if you want the easiest way to explore the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Ask her for help after releasing her from Kar’niss’s Moonlantern and she gives you the Filigreed Feywild Bell, which grants Pixie Blessing. It protects the party without making anyone carry an equipped Moonlantern. Keep the lantern only if you prefer its portable protection or want to spare Dolly’s freedom for role-play reasons.
What happens if you free Dolly?
Dolly is trapped inside the Moonlantern carried by the drider Kar’niss in Act Two. Free her gently, then ask for help with the Shadow Curse. She gives the party the Filigreed Feywild Bell and grants Pixie Blessing. The lantern becomes unusable as an equipped item, but the party gains protection without giving up an equipment slot.
Pixie Blessing may need to be refreshed if you leave the Shadow-Cursed Lands and return. Use the bell and ask Dolly for another blessing.

When to make the choice
Free Dolly before Kar’niss reaches Moonrise Towers with the lantern. If he arrives there first, Dolly dies inside it and can no longer be freed. If the Harpers take the lantern after the ambush, follow them to Last Light Inn; Isobel can give you that same lantern with Dolly still alive inside.

What the bell can do later
After rescuing Dolly in Act Two, you can use the bell to speak with her again. In Act Three, Jelliwig may recognize you during the “Stop the Presses” quest and allow a more favorable printing.

Larian’s Patch 8 notes document a fix for a sorcerer-specific Dolly Thrice dialogue issue that could cause the Moonlantern not to work, as well as a fix for the Moonlantern crafted at Moonrise Towers. Those notes do not establish whether later platform-specific regressions exist.
