The oddest detail may be that more players outside the Dark Urge origin managed to murder Alfira than Dark Urge players did. These are developer-reported activity figures—not a survey of player motives or a complete census of everyone who owns the game.
What are the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 player stats?
For the game’s third anniversary, Larian published a new statistics roundup on August 4, 2026. PC Gamer’s contemporaneous account of the post reports these figures:
- Mods: 500 million downloads and 13,000 uploaded mods.
- Zevlor: 12.3 million deaths for the tiefling leader.
- Rolan: 8.6 million deaths for the wizard apprentice.
- Drunk final-boss attempts: More than 30,000 players took on the Netherbrain while drunk.
- Gold hoards: Fewer than 1% of players obtained 180,000 gold in a single playthrough.
- Portrait play: Just over 9,000 players experienced the game at a 9:16 aspect ratio, suggesting a portrait-oriented display.
The detailed figures are reported by PC Gamer, citing Larian’s anniversary post. Larian’s Bluesky announcement confirms the post and its date, but the accessible page does not show the detailed infographic or explain the underlying metrics.
Which BG3 player behaviors stand out?
Alfira’s murder is not exclusive to the Dark Urge
Larian’s roundup says more non-Dark-Urge players managed to murder Alfira than Dark Urge players. The available account gives no exact count, so there is no reliable number to attach to the comparison. It is a striking reminder that BG3’s many paths can lead players into grim choices even without choosing the origin most associated with them.

Some players took the Netherbrain fight drunk
More than 30,000 players reportedly attempted the final encounter against the Netherbrain while drunk. The figure is presented as a count of players, not as a percentage, and it does not establish how the game or Larian defined “drunk.”
A portrait display, a mountain of gold, and two very niche weapons
Just over 9,000 players played at a 9:16 aspect ratio. That suggests portrait-oriented monitor play, though the statistic alone does not identify the device or setup. Fewer than 1% of players reached 180,000 gold in one playthrough, a rare haul whose exact denominator is not specified in the accessible account.

What do these numbers say—and not say—about BG3 players?
They show a mix of large-scale community activity and oddly specific tracked events: mod downloads and uploads sit alongside deaths, unusual combat choices, and play-session conditions. They do not tell us why people made those choices, how many total owners were eligible for each measure, or what share of all players any raw count represents.

Treat them as figures Larian reported for its roundup, as relayed by PC Gamer—not as a representative poll, a full census, or a current count of active players.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do the 2026 stats compare with older BG3 statistics?
The comparison is useful only if the different time frames and kinds of measures stay distinct. Larian’s August 2023 figures explicitly described the game’s opening weekend; the later anniversary reports focused on different kinds of activity.
Rank #4
| Report | Time frame | What it measured | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Larian’s August 2023 launch-weekend update | Opening weekend | 93% chose a custom character, including Dark Urge; Gale led Origin-character choices; half-elves led race choices; paladin was the leading class and cleric the least popular. | These are launch-weekend choices, not today’s class or character rankings. |
| Larian’s 2025 second-anniversary update | Second anniversary | Rare achievements and unusual choices; the update also notes Patch 8’s arrival in April 2025, with cross-play, Photo Mode, and 12 subclasses. | A different emphasis from the 2023 character and class choices. |
| Larian’s 2026 third-anniversary figures, as reported by PC Gamer | Third-anniversary roundup, August 4, 2026 | Mod totals and selected gameplay oddities, including the Alfira comparison and drunk Netherbrain attempts. | The accessible sources do not specify the collection window, platform coverage, or methods. |
The figures should not be compared as if they shared a denominator: the 2023 post names its opening-weekend window, while the later reports present different categories and do not disclose comparable measurement periods in the accessible material. Larian’s 2023 framing still fits the game’s capacity for unexpected behavior: “We’ve created a game where you can do almost anything with the tools and systems we give you, and with that come a lot of unexpected surprises”.
