There is no confirmed release date for Baldur’s Gate 4. In a 2025 interview, John Hight, then president of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming, said the company would make a successor to Baldur’s Gate 3. He did not announce a developer, production start, schedule or launch window. He also stressed that a separate Dungeons & Dragons game from Giant Skull was not that successor.
What did Wizards’ president actually confirm?
Hight’s statement was an expression of intent to make a successor, not confirmation that Baldur’s Gate 4 was in production. GamesRadar reported him saying: “Baldur’s Gate is an incredible game,” Hight says. “And of course, we’re going to do a successor. This is not the successor to that game.” The surrounding discussion distinguished the planned Giant Skull project from a Baldur’s Gate sequel. GamesRadar’s interview report and Wizards’ June 2025 profile of Hight identify him as president at the time; he had transitioned out of the role by September 2026.
Those distinctions matter: a stated intention is not the same as a named developer, a production start or a release window. As of October 8, 2026, the sources available establish the first, but not the other three.
When is Baldur’s Gate 4 coming out?
No release date or launch window has been announced in the sources reviewed. They also do not establish that the game has entered production, identify a developer, or say whether the successor will ultimately be called Baldur’s Gate 4. There is no supported date to use for a release estimate.

What was the Giant Skull D&D game?
It was a separate project, not the Baldur’s Gate successor Hight described. On June 2, 2025, Wizards announced an exclusive publishing agreement with Giant Skull for an original, single-player action-adventure set in the D&D world. The studio, founded by Stig Asmussen, planned the game for PC and consoles. Wizards’ announcement described the project’s genre and planned platforms; those details were never evidence of Baldur’s Gate 4’s plans.
That early concept was later canceled. PC Gamer reported on May 19, 2026, that Hasbro had ended the publishing agreement earlier that year and decided not to “pursue an early concept” from Giant Skull. Wizards said it was still taking pitches from the studio. PC Gamer’s report concerns the Giant Skull game, not a cancellation of the Baldur’s Gate successor Hight had said Wizards intended to make.

Who might develop the sequel?
Larian Studios is not confirmed
Larian developed Baldur’s Gate 3 but chose to move on from the franchise. PC Gamer reported in June 2026 that the studio had briefly begun work on a sequel before deciding to return to its own properties. July reporting said Larian was not involved in Baldur’s Gate 3-related projects. That makes Larian an unconfirmed—and, based on those reports, unlikely—choice to develop the next game. PC Gamer’s June account and GamesRadar’s July report describe Larian’s position.
James Ohlen declined a reported approach
PC Gamer reported on June 29, 2026, that Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks approached James Ohlen, head of Archetype Entertainment and a co-lead designer on Baldur’s Gate 2, about making the sequel. Ohlen declined. The reported approach did not assign the game to Ohlen or Archetype, and the article described its fate as unknown. PC Gamer’s report is evidence of a declined approach, not a developer announcement.
