Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Lump’s War Horn plays its animation but no ogres appear, first check whether Lump gave you the horn, the ogres are still alive, and you are using it in an eligible Act One area. It also has specific post-fight and nearby-enemy conditions. A player report describes the same no-summon symptom in Honour Mode, but the available sources do not establish a confirmed cause or workaround for that case.
Check the horn’s requirements in this order
- Make sure Lump recruited you and gave you the horn. Lump and his companions can be found in the Blighted Village during Act One. The horn is given after Lump agrees to work with the party. A stolen horn is not equivalent: using it can make the ogres hostile.
- Move to an eligible area. The horn is documented to work in Act One, including the Underdark. It does not work on the Rosymorn Monastery Trail. The reference also says it can work if you return to Act One after leaving.
- Check that the ogres are still available. If Lump, Chock, and Fank are dead, the horn cannot summon them. The character reference describes up to three uses, but after the ogres finish a fight, Lump requires a new or better accepted incentive before the horn can be used again.
- Give the ogres something to fight. They are not simply extra controllable party members. If there are no other creatures present, they may turn on your party. If the only nearby creatures are not hostile to you, using the horn can start combat with those creatures hostile to both sides.
The item’s documented restrictions and deal terms are described in the Lump’s War Horn reference and Lump the Enlightened reference.

What happens when the horn works
The horn calls Lump, Chock, and Fank as neutral combatants who fight for your side; they are not ordinary party members under your control. The item reference says ally-only spells and effects do not work on them. After a completed fight, their bargain needs to be renewed with a new or better accepted incentive if you want to call them again.
Is the Honour Mode no-summon symptom a known bug?
A Larian forum user reported in March 2024 that the horn’s sound and animation played in Honour Mode without summoning Lump. That is an anecdotal report, and replies speculated about possible causes without establishing a verified fix. It does not show that every failure has the same cause or that Honour Mode is generally affected.

Larian’s Patch 1 notes, dated August 25, 2023, document a separate Emerald Grove issue: “During the attack of the Emerald Grove, Lump and the ogres will no longer attack Cerys.” That historical fix does not confirm a fix for the later no-summon report.
Larian’s Hotfix #36 notes, dated March 26, 2026, identify version 4.1.1.7209685 and list fixes including save-loading performance and crashes, but do not mention Lump’s War Horn. The official news index listed Hotfix #36 as the latest update when checked. Those notes neither establish nor rule out another horn issue.

If the horn still does nothing
- Recheck the recruitment, region, ogre survival, prior-fight bargain, and nearby-opponent conditions above.
- If all of those fit and no ogres arrive, the available reports do not establish a reliable timing, party-member, or combat-round workaround. Avoid treating forum speculation as a proven fix.
- For a persistent failure, use Larian’s official Baldur’s Gate 3 bug-report process. Include where you used the horn, whether it had worked before, whether the ogres were alive, and what happened after the animation.
