Yes. Banjo: Recompiled is a native PC port of Banjo-Kazooie for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It translates the original Nintendo 64 game through static recompilation and uses RT64 for rendering. To use it, you must supply the North American 1.0 game data yourself; the project does not include the game.
How Banjo: Recompiled works
Static recompilation translates an original game’s binary for another platform. Banjo: Recompiled describes itself as a static recompilation of the N64 game, rather than a port built from a completed decompiled source tree. Its rendering engine is RT64.
That distinction matters because a separate Banjo-Kazooie decompilation project also exists. Its repository reports “100.0000%” completion and includes instructions for building from source with a baserom. A completed decompilation and a ready-to-use PC build are different things: the existence of the decompilation did not make it a requirement for Banjo: Recompiled. The recompilation project’s FAQ says reverse-engineering work from the decompilation project helped with some enhancements, but the port does not depend on its source tree.
The terminology can be confusing. The recomp.fyi specification distinguishes static recompilation of an original binary from a native port built from decompiled, disassembled, or rewritten source. Its terminology changed on 2026-10-01, so older lists may use “recomp” less precisely. For this project, its own description is the clearest guide: it uses static recompilation.

What you need to run it
The supported game data
The project accepts only the North American Nintendo 64 version 1.0 game data. It says its repository and releases contain no game assets; you select the game data in the application’s main menu. It cannot run arbitrary ROMs, and other revisions—including North American 1.1, Japanese, and PAL releases—are not documented as supported. The decompilation repository lists those revisions separately, but that does not make them compatible with this PC port.
The project’s download page advises users to legally dump the game from a cartridge they own. That advice is not a determination of copyright law: the legality of making, possessing, or using a game dump depends on jurisdiction, and the available project documentation does not settle that question. Do not treat buying a cartridge as a blanket legal ruling or seek unauthorized ROM downloads.

Operating system and graphics support
The project identifies Windows, Linux, and macOS builds. Its documentation also covers a Linux binary and Flatpak installation for Steam Deck use. Published graphics requirements are Direct3D 12.0 with Shader Model 6, Vulkan 1.2, or Metal Argument Buffers Tier 2. These are the project’s stated requirements, not independently tested compatibility results.
The README names the GeForce GT 630, Radeon HD 7750, and Intel HD 510 as examples of the oldest GPUs expected to qualify for their respective vendors. For Mac, it lists Apple Silicon or a seventh-generation Intel Mac running macOS 13.0 or later. Treat these as project-published guidance, not a guarantee for every system with similar specifications.

Features and practical limitations
The project’s feature list includes high-framerate rendering, widescreen and ultrawide display support, mods, dual-analog camera control, and optional note saving. The README also describes low input lag and instant loading; those are project claims, not results from an independent comparison with an emulator or original hardware.
Overlays such as MSI Afterburner and background software such as Wallpaper Engine can cause performance problems or prevent correct rendering, according to the project. If graphics are wrong or performance is poor, its README recommends disabling such software and checking again.

How it differs from emulation
Banjo: Recompiled is not a conventional emulator that accepts arbitrary N64 games. The project states, “This is not an emulator, and it cannot run any arbitrary ROM.” It targets one game and one specific revision, translating that game’s binary into a native build. Emulation instead recreates a console environment to run game software; the available project information does not establish a measured comparison of performance, image quality, or latency between this port and any particular emulator.
The practical choice depends on what you want to play and what files you have: this project is for the supported North American 1.0 game data, while its documentation does not offer broad compatibility with other N64 titles or revisions.
