basp.dll errors may appear as “The program can’t start because basp.dll is missing from your computer,” “The specified module could not be found,” or “The code execution cannot proceed because basp.dll was not found.”
The 60-second answer is to identify the Broadcom network adapter, then reinstall its complete OEM or Broadcom NetXtreme driver package with BASP selected. Do not download a loose copy of basp.dll, place it in System32, or start with regsvr32.

What basp.dll is
basp.dll belongs to Broadcom Advanced Server Program, usually called BASP. BASP is part of Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet adapter software and works with the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite on supported systems.

It is not a normal Windows system DLL, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. It is installed by a Broadcom or OEM network-driver package, often on business desktops, workstations, and servers.
Broadcom adapters have appeared in systems supplied by many manufacturers, including Dell, IBM, HPE, Lenovo, Oracle, and Sun. The correct package depends on the adapter model, Windows architecture, driver generation, and the manufacturer’s support matrix.
BASP is associated mainly with older Broadcom Windows driver packages and server installations. A current Windows installation may not support an old teaming package, even if the computer still contains Broadcom hardware.

A basp.dll message usually means one of these things:
- The BASP feature was removed or never installed.
- A driver update or Windows upgrade left mismatched Broadcom components.
- Antivirus software quarantined or deleted a BASP file.
- The installed package does not match the adapter or Windows architecture.
- Windows has general component corruption.
- The computer no longer uses the Broadcom adapter, but an old management component still starts.
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that basp.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by the Broadcom component.
The exact filename also matters. basp.dll is not the same as basp.sys, Baspw2k.dll, Baspnt4.dll, Baspxp32.dll, or Baspxp64.dll. Historical Broadcom packages used several BASP-related filenames.
Fix 1: Identify the Broadcom adapter and restore its driver package
This is the most likely and safest repair.
Find the adapter model
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Look for a Broadcom or NetXtreme entry.
- Double-click the adapter.
- Open the General tab and record the device name.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider, date, and version.
- If the adapter has a warning icon, note the message in Device status.
If the adapter is not listed under Network adapters, select View at the top of Device Manager and choose Show hidden devices. Also check Other devices for an unknown Ethernet controller.

Obtain the correct package
Use the computer or server manufacturer’s official support page first. Search by the exact model or service identifier and select the installed Windows version and architecture.
If the manufacturer no longer provides the package, use Broadcom’s official support and download portal. Older BASP packages may be available only through OEM support pages, archived server media, or a manufacturer’s driver repository.
Do not choose a package only because its archive contains a file named basp.dll. The INF file, network driver, BASP component, management software, and supported adapter must belong together.
Reinstall BASP
- Close applications that use the network.
- Run the downloaded installer as administrator.
- Choose Custom, Advanced, or Modify if the installer offers that option.
- Select BASP or Broadcom Advanced Server Program.
- Keep the matching Broadcom network adapter driver and management components selected.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows, even if the installer does not require it.
- Test the application that reported the error.
Some packages use separate IA32 and x64 setup programs. Choose the one matching Windows, not merely the processor. To check Windows architecture, open Settings > System > About and inspect System type.

A 32-bit BASP file cannot repair a 64-bit installation, and a file from a different Broadcom driver generation may be incompatible even when the filename matches.
Manually identifying every stale driver and matching it to the adapter can be tedious, especially on an older system with several network packages installed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated driver entries and show what needs attention; its full version performs the driver installation, but it is not required when you already have the correct OEM package.
How to tell whether it worked
The repair is successful when:
- The Broadcom adapter appears normally in Device Manager.
- The adapter’s Device status says it is working properly.
- The original program no longer reports
basp.dll. - Broadcom management or teaming software opens without the missing-file message.
- The network connection and any documented team or VLAN configuration work normally.
If the error remains, do not copy a DLL from another computer. Continue with the checks below.
Fix 2: Check whether security software quarantined the file
Security software can remove a driver component if it detects suspicious behavior, a damaged file, or an invalid signature.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
basp.dll, Broadcom software, or the network-driver installer. - Open the entry and record the detected path and action.
- Verify that the file came from the official OEM or Broadcom package.
- Check the file’s Properties > Digital Signatures tab if the file is still present.
Prefer reinstalling the complete signed driver package rather than restoring an isolated file from quarantine. If the detection returns after reinstalling, leave the file quarantined and investigate the package, the installer source, and the system before restoring anything.
If the computer no longer contains a Broadcom adapter, the correct fix may be to remove the obsolete Broadcom management software instead of restoring BASP.
Fix 3: Remove an obsolete Broadcom installation
Use this only when the machine no longer needs the Broadcom adapter, teaming, or VLAN configuration.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Look for Broadcom Advanced Control Suite, Broadcom network management software, or an OEM network utility.
- Select the relevant entry and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click an obsolete Broadcom adapter and choose Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device only when you are certain the adapter and package are no longer required.
- Restart again.
Do not remove a server’s active team or network binding remotely unless you have console access and a documented recovery plan. Removing the wrong component can disconnect the system.
There is normally no Windows Feature that adds BASP. Do not enable random items under Turn Windows features on or off to repair this error. BASP must come from the matching Broadcom or OEM driver package.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair tools when the error began after system corruption, an interrupted update, or broader Windows file problems. These commands do not recreate a missing third-party BASP installation, so reinstall the Broadcom package afterward.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until SFC reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the correct Broadcom package if
basp.dllis still missing.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows resources. Neither command is a substitute for installing BASP, because BASP is supplied by third-party network-driver software.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing whether Windows or the Broadcom package changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and identify repair work; its full version performs repairs, but it is optional and does not replace the correct Broadcom installer.
Fix 5: Check for a bad update or mismatched driver
If the error started immediately after a driver or Windows update, compare the current driver with the package supplied for the computer model.
Roll back the adapter driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Double-click the Broadcom adapter.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if it is available.
- Choose a reason and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
If Roll Back Driver is unavailable, download the previous supported OEM package and reinstall it. Do not combine the old BASP files with a newer adapter driver.
Reinstall the device from Device Manager
Use this when the adapter entry is damaged and you already have the correct driver package available.
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the Broadcom adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Do not remove the driver package unless you have a replacement installer ready.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the OEM or Broadcom installer.
- Select BASP when offered.
- Restart again.
Why downloading basp.dll is usually wrong
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- Malware or tampered files
- The wrong architecture
- A file from an unrelated driver generation
- A file with incompatible dependencies
- A DLL that does not match the installed INF or kernel driver
Copying basp.dll into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application directory can also create DLL search-order and version conflicts. It often leaves the actual Broadcom installation incomplete.
Public file listings may show a 64-bit basp.dll entry with version 0.0.1.0 and a size around 0.11 MB, along with 32-bit entries. These are file-index metadata, not proof of a current supported Broadcom release. The exact filename, size, version, and installation path vary by OEM package.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM-style DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer.
BASP is documented as an NDIS intermediate network driver component, not as a general COM library. Running:

regsvr32 basp.dll
normally does not restore the driver chain. It may produce an entry-point error or change nothing. Reinstall the complete network-driver package instead.
If the error still appears
Collect these details before escalating:
- The exact error text and the full file path shown
- Broadcom adapter model
- Windows edition and system architecture
- Driver provider and version in Device Manager
- Whether BASP or Broadcom Advanced Server Program was selected
- Antivirus protection history
- Recent Windows, driver, or OEM image changes
- Relevant errors in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System
- Whether the machine still uses Broadcom teaming or VLANs
If the error occurs only when one old application starts, inspect that application’s startup entries and installed Broadcom utilities. If it appears during boot or network initialization, focus on the adapter package, BASP configuration, and driver dependencies.
FAQ
Is basp.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to Broadcom Advanced Server Program software supplied with certain Broadcom NetXtreme network-driver packages.
Do I need Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not for basp.dll by itself. Install those runtimes only when a separate error specifically identifies one of them.
Is BASP still supported on Windows 11?
Support depends on the adapter, driver generation, and OEM package. Older BASP installations may not be supported on a newer Windows release. Use the manufacturer’s support matrix rather than mixing historical files with a current driver.

Use the package matching Windows architecture and the adapter driver. Do not copy a standalone file based only on its filename.
What if I no longer have a Broadcom adapter?
Remove the obsolete Broadcom management or teaming software through Apps > Installed apps or Programs and Features, after confirming that no active network configuration depends on it.
Can System Restore fix this?
System Restore can help when the failure began directly after a driver or software change and the correct installer is unavailable. It is a fallback, not a replacement for reinstalling the correct Broadcom package.
