What the Game of the Year edition includes
The GOTY edition adds four challenge maps: Crime Alley, Scarecrow Nightmare, Totally Insane and Nocturnal Hunter. Steam lists achievements, trading cards, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing for the product. Its listed interface and audio languages are English, French, German, Italian and Spanish (Spain); the page marks subtitles as unavailable. What you do in Arkham Asylum
Arkham Asylum is a single-player action-adventure built around more than direct combat. Batman fights using the FreeFlow system, sneaks through predator encounters, investigates crime scenes, traverses Arkham Island and searches for secrets and challenge content. Gadgets include Batarangs, explosive gel, the Batclaw, sonar resonator, line launcher and grapnel gun. Experience earned in play unlocks equipment upgrades.

- Counter instead of relying only on strikes. Watch for incoming attacks and use the counter control to keep combat moving.
- Evade when enemies close in. Double-tap Space to avoid being surrounded, then reposition before attacking.
- Use Detective Mode to read a situation. It helps identify threats and supports investigation.
- Look up for stealth routes. Grapple points and elevated vantage positions can help Batman observe enemies and approach predator encounters quietly.
- Investigate and solve challenges. The manual says defeating enemies, rescuing civilians, gathering evidence and solving puzzles award XP, which can be spent on upgrades.
Saves, checkpoints and progression
The PC manual describes profile-based saves and checkpoint-based progress. XP from combat and investigation unlocks upgrades that expand Batman’s capabilities, including ways to meet challenges and access areas as the story progresses. Steam lists Steam Cloud for the product. The manuals’ installation directions—including references to Windows XP/Vista, DirectX 9 and Games for Windows – LIVE—are period documentation, not current setup instructions.
