You can jump into Battlefield 6 without knowing earlier games. If you’re new, a useful starting path is to set up comfortable controls, try the campaign on Recruit, then move into multiplayer and pick a class that helps your squad’s current objective. This guide covers the campaign, class roles, mode goals, and settings; for changing playlists or balance details, check the live game rather than relying on launch-era information.
How to get started in Battlefield 6
- Adjust your controls and visuals. Set a controller layout or keyboard bindings that feel comfortable. Motion blur, screen shake, and field of view are personal preferences; EA cautions that a higher field of view is not automatically better.
- Try the campaign if you want a guided introduction. Recruit is the most forgiving difficulty, with more forgiving enemy damage and health recovery than Normal.
- Move into multiplayer when you feel ready. Choose a class for the task at hand, learn the selected mode’s win condition, and contribute to it through objectives or squad support—not just eliminations.
EA says prior knowledge of the series is not required. Its 2025 beginner guide described an Initiation playlist for lower-rank players, with partially bot-filled teams and Breakthrough as its sole launch mode. That is launch-era information, not a promise of current availability or rank requirements; check the in-game menu.
Should you play the campaign before multiplayer?
The campaign follows members of a Marine Raiders unit opposing Pax Armata amid a crisis involving NATO. EA’s announcement describes a story spanning three continents. It is a sensible first stop if you want to learn the game’s combat at your own pace or follow its story, but it is not a prerequisite for multiplayer.
Choose a difficulty for the experience you want
EA lists four campaign difficulty settings. Recruit is the easiest and most forgiving, suited to focusing on the story. Normal is the balanced baseline. Veteran is aimed at experienced players, with more dangerous enemies and less forgiving health recovery. Hardcore raises the challenge further and removes revives. Pick according to the level of challenge you want, not as a measure of skill.

Campaign rewards
EA lists cosmetic items, XP boosters, a weapon package, and a golden dog tag among rewards for completing missions or specific tasks. Completing every mission on Hardcore unlocks the “Elegant Ballistics” package for the B36A3 Assault Rifle, according to EA. Check the in-game Challenge menu for exact requirements.
How do classes work in Battlefield 6?
The four core classes—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—have distinct roles, signature weapons, and traits. They are different ways to help a squad, not a ranking of overall strength.
| Class | Squad role | Officially described tools or strengths |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | Push forward and break through defenses | Enhanced mobility and an option to equip an extra primary weapon. EA’s launch-era beginner guide lists the Adrenaline Injector as the signature gadget and an Assault Rifle as the signature weapon category in closed-weapon experiences. |
| Engineer | Counter vehicles and keep friendly vehicles or equipment working | Rockets and mines against enemy vehicles; the only class EA identifies as able to repair friendly vehicles, equipment, and weapon placements. The launch-era guide lists the Repair Tool as its signature gadget and an SMG as its signature weapon category in closed-weapon experiences. |
| Support | Sustain the squad | Resupply, healing, deployable cover, and revives. EA’s beginner guide says Support can use the Defibrillator for an instant revive; it lists the Supply Bag and an LMG as the signature gadget and weapon category in closed-weapon experiences. |
| Recon | Scout and support engagements at range | Drones to identify enemies, explosives against vehicles or buildings, and a laser designator to guide allied missiles. The launch-era guide lists the Motion Sensor and a Sniper Rifle as the signature gadget and weapon category in closed-weapon experiences. |
EA’s beginner guide says every class can revive squadmates, while Support can revive any ally on the team. Loadouts and weapon access can vary by playlist rules; the gadget and weapon-category details above come from EA’s launch-era guide, so check the current loadout screen.

What are the multiplayer modes and their objectives?
EA’s mode guide describes the following launch mode set. Playlists can change, so confirm what is selectable in the current game. The key distinction is whether the win condition centers on controlling objectives or reaching a kill target.
| Mode | Win condition and focus |
|---|---|
| Conquest | Capture and hold multiple control points. Capturing, defending, and moving between objectives are central. EA describes it as often using the largest combat zones and player counts in official playlists. |
| Escalation | Capture strategic points as territory expands; fewer points remain over time, concentrating the fight around the last areas. |
| Team Deathmatch | Infantry-focused combat; kills determine the winner. |
| Squad Deathmatch | Four squads compete to reach a kill target first. |
| Domination | Close-quarters infantry combat focused on capturing and holding objectives until the point limit. |
| King of the Hill | Teams fight over control points that move during the match; cooperation helps secure each location. |
How to contribute beyond eliminations
In objective modes, capturing or defending points advances the stated goal. Depending on your class and situation, reviving, resupplying, repairing, or spotting can also support the squad. In Team Deathmatch and Squad Deathmatch, kills are directly tied to the win condition. Let the selected mode—not a single playstyle—guide your priorities.

What settings should you change?
EA recommends adjusting your controller layout or keyboard bindings, motion blur and shake, and field of view to suit your setup. There is no universal preset in that advice: try changes individually and keep what feels comfortable. In particular, a wider field of view is not automatically better for every player.
EA’s 2025 beginner guide said the game had more than 40 weapons and described default class loadouts and open- versus closed-weapon playlist rules. Those are launch-context details, not a current weapon ranking or guarantee that every playlist remains available. Weapon balance and playlist access can change; consult the current in-game menus for what you can select.

For new players, EA’s 2025 guide puts the emphasis on learning by playing and says patient friends are especially helpful. A squad willing to explain objectives can make the transition into multiplayer easier.
