What this walkthrough covers
God of War Ragnarök is a single-player action-adventure game available on PS4, PS5 and PC. The PC release is distributed through Steam and the Epic Games Store. This article focuses on how to approach progression, optional exploration, setup and help—not a scene-by-scene plot walkthrough. For official combat advice about equipment and enemies, use PlayStation’s God of War page.

Story details and route-specific solutions are intentionally omitted here, so this guide can help without revealing major plot turns. Follow the game’s current objective markers and dialogue for the actual route: the information available here does not establish a complete chapter order, named mission list or exact puzzle sequence.
How to progress through the story
- Check the active objective. Use the in-game journal or objective display to identify the current story task. When you want to advance the campaign, prioritize that marker over nearby optional paths.
- Follow the route the game opens. Pay attention to traversal prompts, companion cues and newly accessible paths. If a route appears blocked, look for an indicated interaction or alternate path rather than assuming the obstruction is a bug.
- Use combat resources deliberately. Adapt equipment and approach to the enemy encounter. PlayStation’s official combat guide is a supplemental reference for equipment tips and enemy advice.
- Return to optional areas when useful. If a side route cannot be completed with the tools or access currently available, continue the main objective and revisit it later. This is a general exploration approach, not a guarantee that every obstacle is designed to be revisited.
Should you explore optional paths?
Optional exploration is separate from the main story route. Take a detour when you want to investigate a side path or collect whatever the game makes available there; stay with the objective marker when you want the most direct route through the campaign. Because this guide does not verify individual rewards or location-specific unlock conditions, consult the in-game map and objective text rather than relying on an assumed reward or chapter order.

Valhalla is separate downloadable content
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is DLC, not a chapter in the base-game walkthrough. PlayStation describes it as free for PS4 and PS5 owners through the PlayStation Store. The PC announcement says Valhalla is included with the PC purchase. Access is therefore platform- and ownership-dependent: check the relevant storefront and your account’s game entitlement before trying to install it. Adjust accessibility and controls to fit your needs
Santa Monica Studio identifies customizable button configurations and a high-contrast color mode that can distinguish targets, enemies, characters and item types. The US PlayStation Store listing currently shows 34 accessibility features; availability and presentation may vary by platform or listing. These options do not guarantee that every task or play style will be accessible to every player.

PC setup: compare your hardware with official targets
Santa Monica Studio’s PC requirements table, dated August 13, 2024, gives five hardware tiers and lists 190 GB of SSD storage. Its stated performance targets range from an average of 1080p at 30 FPS on low settings at the minimum tier to an average of 4K at 60 FPS on ultra settings at the top tier, with intermediate 1080p, 1440p and 4K targets. These are the studio’s estimates for specified hardware, not independent benchmark results or guaranteed frame rates on every PC.

Before downloading, compare your system against the complete tier table at Santa Monica Studio’s PC system requirements, including the storage requirement and the components for the performance target you want. A machine meeting the minimum target should not be assumed to deliver the higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate targets.

First verify that you are following the active objective and using the route currently available in your game. If an instruction here or elsewhere does not match your version, check for a game update and consult Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarök support hub. It includes an “Unable to Progress” topic as well as patch notes, accessibility and localization resources. A mismatch alone is not enough to establish that you have encountered a bug.
