The strongest named Recon positions in Battlefield 6 are on Wake Island: the Taussig Radar Station tower for temporary elevated overwatch, the Heel Point Barracks buildings for views near a major capture area, and the raised ground southwest of the Ammunition and Ordnance Depot for a flank. None is a universally safe or best perch. Choose a position that helps your squad, then move when the objective, cover, or enemy response changes.
Best Recon positions on Wake Island
EA’s Wake Island map guide identifies several useful locations, but it does not rank them or establish a winning spot for every mode. Treat these as situational options: a sightline is valuable when it helps contest an objective, spot an approach, or cover a teammate’s push.
Taussig Radar Station tower: elevated overwatch
The tower sits above the objective area, which usually centers on its underground space, and EA describes it as a sniping perch with natural high ground and supporting buildings. Its drawback is exposure: explosives can shell the tower. Use it to watch a relevant lane or spot enemies, but have a route away and shift when opponents start targeting the position or the fight moves.
Heel Point Barracks: cover near the capture area
Three adjacent buildings can serve as firing positions or places to break contact with pursuing infantry. In all-out-warfare modes, the main capture area lies between them, making the buildings potentially useful for supporting the objective rather than simply watching from afar. They can be destroyed; rubble then offers cover, so check what remains before relying on a particular angle. Tunnels between the Barracks and Hangar provide another way to reposition or disengage.

Southwest of the Ammunition and Ordnance Depot: a flank, not a destination
Outside the Depot, slightly toward the Hangar, destroyed bunkers and raised terrain provide cover along a flank route. EA says developers expected less foot traffic there during playtests; that is an expectation, not a guarantee about live matches. The area may help infantry or boats approach a fight, but it is not itself an objective. Use it to support a push, then move toward where your team needs information or cover.
Use the rest of Wake Island to reposition
Not every useful Recon location is a long-range perch. The Hangar’s large interior can offer mid- to long-range sightlines, but it is close to busy areas and fights there can become hectic. The Depot has cover at different elevations and structures that can explode. The Shipwreck provides cover and ziplines across otherwise exposed traversal space.

Bridges and tunnels connect points of interest, including the Barracks, Hangar, Ammo Depot, Fuel Storage, and Docks. EA notes that tunnels can shorten travel, create flanking opportunities, and provide escape routes; tunnels and gaps between buildings can also limit exposure to long-range weapons. Learn the nearest covered route before settling into a lane so you can rotate or break contact instead of staying in a position that has stopped helping.
Make a Recon position useful to your squad
- Watch a team-relevant lane. Prioritize approaches to an objective or a route teammates are using over a distant view with no useful target.
- Spot as you aim. EA’s Recon class guide describes Passive Spot: aiming at an enemy can spot them, with the time needed affected by enemy movement and zoom. Share information rather than judging a position only by eliminations.
- Use the Motion Sensor for nearby threats. It reveals nearby moving enemies in a small radius, including enemies around corners or beyond walls. In multilevel buildings, it may not tell you which floor an enemy is on.
- Rotate when the map changes. Destruction changes sightlines and cover; objective states and enemy counterfire change which routes matter. Tunnels, bridges, and building gaps can help you leave safely.
- Put objectives ahead of a personal tally. EA’s beginner guide emphasizes spotting for squad support and objective actions in modes decided by objectives. Covering a push or providing actionable information can be more useful than holding a lane for its own sake.
What to know about Recon balance changes
EA’s Season 5 preview discusses adjusted recoil and body-damage multipliers and refined sniper-rifle “Sweet Spot” ranges as part of combat work. It also lists other changes as under exploration and says planned features remain subject to Battlefield Labs testing, so they may change, be delayed, or be removed. The preview’s mention of moving Recon’s Drone to the loot pool is specific to REDSEC; it should not be treated as a Battlefield 6 multiplayer change. Exact weapon, range, gadget, and training-path behavior depends on the live build; the preview is not a guarantee of final settings.
