Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC support crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Crossplay is enabled by default. In standard multiplayer and regular REDSEC modes, console players are generally matched with other console players first, but PC players can be added when necessary. REDSEC Ranked Battle Royale uses a separate rule: mixed PC-and-console squads are placed in PC matchmaking.
These rules apply as of August 8, 2026, and can change as EA adjusts its live-service matchmaking systems.

How to add a cross-platform friend
Use EA Connect rather than relying only on your console or platform friends list:
- Open Battlefield 6 or REDSEC.
- Press R2 on PlayStation, RT on Xbox, or TAB on PC to open EA Connect.
- Select Player search.
- Enter your friend’s EA ID or platform ID.
- Select Done.
- Choose the correct player from the results and select Add friend.
- Have the recipient accept the request in the Friend requests tab.
- Once accepted, find the player under Friends. Party invitations are sent from the Party tab.
Adding someone only through a platform’s own friends system is not enough for a reliable cross-platform party. Adding the player as an EA friend keeps the relationship connected when either person uses another platform. EA’s current instructions are available in its Battlefield 6 cross-play support guide.
How crossplay works in standard Battlefield 6 multiplayer
Crossplay starts on by default. In ordinary Battlefield 6 matchmaking, console players are prioritized with other console players first. If there are not enough console players to fill a match, PC players may be added.
That is a matchmaking preference, not a guaranteed console-only queue. Standard Battlefield 6 multiplayer does not currently offer a general permanent console-only option. EA has said that creating a separate console-only pool could increase queue times by splitting the available player base. The latest official explanation appears in the Battlefield 6 community update.
How to turn crossplay off
On PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, use this in-game path:
Cog icon → System → Setup → Cross-play → Off
EA’s current support documentation says this setting can be viewed and changed only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The PC version does not provide the same officially supported in-game toggle.
EA’s support page says that turning crossplay off limits matchmaking to people using the same platform:
Rank #2
- Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition (disc) for Playstation 5 contains the full game
- Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition includes Phantom Squad, Battlefield Pro Token, Shrouded & Drop Shadow Weapon Package, Chimera Vehicle Skin, Phantom XP Boost Set and more
- All-out war, fast-paced close-quarters combat, tactical destruction – Welcome to the definitive Battlefield experience
- THE NEW STANDARD OF FPS COMBAT: With overhauled gunplay and tactical movement, from crouch sprint to drag and revive, every shot and movement is more instinctual and precise
- MORE WAYS TO BATTLE: Victory, however you envision it; Seize glory in iconic, large-scale modes including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush; Fight in iconic locations all over the world including Cairo, Brooklyn, Gibraltar and more
- PlayStation 5 with crossplay off: PlayStation 5 players only.
- Xbox with crossplay off: Xbox players only.
- PC: no official in-game crossplay-off control is documented.
This means disabling crossplay is not an official way to create a PlayStation-versus-Xbox-only queue. EA’s Battlefield 6 FAQ uses different wording about turning off PC crossplay for console-only play, but the more specific support instructions say “same platform.” Treat the support-page behavior as the safer interpretation rather than assuming PlayStation and Xbox players will be matched together.
If the crossplay option is unavailable
You cannot change the setting while you are:
- In a party
- Connected to a server
- Already matchmaking
Leave the party or server and cancel matchmaking, then return to Cog icon → System → Setup → Cross-play.
How crossplay works in regular REDSEC modes
Standard REDSEC modes use the normal Battlefield crossplay model. PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S players can play together, with console matchmaking generally prioritizing console players before using PC players to complete the queue.

REDSEC Ranked Battle Royale has a separate platform split
Ranked Battle Royale currently separates PC and console matchmaking:
| Squad composition | Matchmaking pool |
|---|---|
| Full PC squad | PC matchmaking |
| Full console squad | Console matchmaking |
| Mixed PC-and-console squad | PC matchmaking |
A full console squad can include players across the supported console platforms; the console pool is not limited to one individual console brand. However, if even one member of the Ranked squad is on PC while another is on console, the entire squad is sent to the PC pool.
This platform separation is specific to REDSEC Ranked Battle Royale. It should not be applied automatically to every REDSEC playlist or to core Battlefield 6 multiplayer. EA’s Ranked guide documents the current rules.
Ranked party restrictions
Ranked squads must also satisfy a rank-range requirement. Players in a squad must be at the same rank or within two ranks of one another. Players outside that permitted range cannot queue together.

Season 4 broadened matchmaking bands to improve queue health, but it did not remove the squad party restriction. A mixed-platform Ranked party therefore has two separate conditions to consider:
- Every member must meet the Ranked rank-range requirement.
- If the party contains both PC and console players, the whole party enters PC matchmaking.
Ranked access requires at least Career Rank 5. Ranked matches are Battle Royale Quads with 25 squads of four players. The feature began as a Battlefield Labs in Live addition, but EA now describes it as the first version of a permanent feature rather than a limited-time test. Its rules may continue to change between seasons; EA’s current overview is available here, with Season 4 changes listed here.

Disabling crossplay reduces the number of players available for matchmaking. The effect is most noticeable outside peak hours, in smaller regions, or in less-populated playlists.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Standard modes may search for longer with crossplay disabled.
- Ranked already has longer potential queues because of its platform split and rank restrictions.
- A mixed PC-console Ranked party is placed in the PC pool, which may affect search times.
- EA may prioritize queue health when searches take too long, so crossplay preferences should not be treated as an absolute guarantee in every circumstance. Check EA’s FAQ and support guidance for the current behavior.
Common Battlefield 6 crossplay misconceptions
“All Battlefield 6 multiplayer is console-only.”
Not correct. Core matchmaking prioritizes console players but can add PC players when needed. The explicit PC/console split described by EA applies to REDSEC Ranked Battle Royale.
“Turning crossplay off lets PlayStation and Xbox players play together.”
That is not what EA’s current support instructions say. The documented result is same-platform matchmaking: PlayStation with PlayStation, or Xbox with Xbox.
“PC players can disable crossplay by editing PROFSAVE_profile.”
Community discussions mention changing GStGameplay.CrossplayEnable in a local profile file, but this is not an officially supported configuration path. It may be overwritten by updates or create configuration problems. EA’s supported documentation does not provide a PC crossplay-off toggle.
“REDSEC Ranked uses the same crossplay rules as normal REDSEC.”
It does not. Ranked Battle Royale separates PC and console matchmaking, and any mixed PC-console squad is placed in the PC pool.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems“Battlefield 6 ownership is required to play REDSEC with Battlefield 6 players.”
It is not. REDSEC is free to play, and REDSEC-only players can party with Battlefield 6 owners.
