The answer depends on which version you mean. Xbox players did not need Game Pass to play Battlefield 6’s open beta online during August 15–17, 2025, but that beta is over. For the released game, you need access to Battlefield 6 itself, and online console multiplayer may require an Xbox plan that includes that benefit.
Did the Battlefield 6 Xbox beta require Game Pass?
No. Xbox Wire said Xbox Series X|S players could play the open beta online without a Game Pass membership during its August 15–17, 2025 event. That was a temporary rule for the public beta weekend, not ongoing access to the game. The event has ended. Xbox Wire’s beta announcement also listed the full game’s planned launch date.
Does the full Battlefield 6 release require Game Pass?
There are two separate questions: whether you can access the game, and whether your Xbox account has the entitlement for online console multiplayer. Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025. EA lists the game for consoles and links to the Xbox Store, where you can check the current offer and availability for your region. EA’s Battlefield 6 purchase page
Owning or accessing the game
A Game Pass plan that includes online console multiplayer does not, by itself, mean you own Battlefield 6. Microsoft says games are sold separately; check the Xbox Store or your existing entitlements to confirm whether you have access to the full game. Microsoft’s Game Pass Essential page

Is Battlefield Labs the same as the open beta?
No. Battlefield Labs is an invite-only EA program, not the public open beta. EA’s FAQ lists Xbox Game Pass Core as required for Battlefield Labs access on Xbox Series X|S. That requirement applies to Labs and should not be confused with Xbox Wire’s no-Game-Pass statement for the August 2025 public beta. EA’s Battlefield FAQ

What about a Battlefield 6 trial?
EA’s current legal disclaimers describe a limited-time trial and warn that terms can change. A trial is not permanent access and is not the same as owning the full game. Check EA’s latest Battlefield 6 game offers and disclaimers for the trial’s current availability and terms.
