The Battlefield 6 Open Beta reached a peak of 521,079 concurrent players on Steam on August 9, 2025, according to SteamDB. That is a Steam-only figure—not a count across PC launchers and consoles. The beta’s record-setting scale is clear; the claim that it dethroned a specific “massive RPG” is less certain, because the available evidence does not verify that comparison.
How many people played the Battlefield 6 beta at once?
SteamDB recorded 521,079 concurrent players for the Battlefield 6 Open Beta on August 9, 2025. Concurrent players means people playing at the same time; it is not the total number of people who tried the beta over its run.

Which record did Battlefield 6 beat?
The “massive RPG” reference likely means Monster Hunter Wilds, but the available sources do not verify that identification or provide a primary-source comparison figure. It is therefore not possible to state as established fact that Battlefield 6 surpassed Monster Hunter Wilds’ beta record, or to give a numerical comparison between them.
A separate comparison reported by PC Gamer says Battlefield 6’s Steam peak passed the unified Call of Duty Steam app’s peak of 491,670. That comparison is also limited to Steam: Call of Duty PC players may be distributed across Steam, Battle.net, and Game Pass, so the Steam figure does not represent all of its PC players.

For a meaningful record comparison, the figures need to measure the same thing: the same platform or storefront, concurrent peaks rather than totals, comparable events such as beta periods, and clearly identified dates and sources. A Steam-only peak should not be compared as if it were an all-platform estimate.

What happened after the beta?
In its August 21, 2025 debrief, EA said it reviewed player feedback and in-game data and outlined planned changes. Among them, the publisher said it would make a general pass on weapon recoil and tap-fire characteristics to strengthen weapon identity and range differentiation. EA also described Breakthrough as designed for player counts of up to 64.
Those details provide context for how EA used the beta, but they do not change what the peak measures: a Steam concurrent-player count during the beta event.

How does the beta peak compare with launch figures?
EA later reported that Battlefield 6 sold over 7 million copies in its first three days and called it the biggest opening in the franchise’s history. The publisher also reported over 172 million online matches and over 15 million hours watched on streaming services during the three-day launch weekend.
These are EA-reported launch figures, not beta player counts. Copies sold, matches played, viewing hours, and concurrent players measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable evidence of a player peak.

EA lists the released Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games Store. Those release platforms should not be used to infer the beta’s total audience from its SteamDB peak.
