EA introduced it as a requirement for the Javelin anti-cheat system, and it applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs regardless of whether you use Steam, the EA app, or Epic Games Store. Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, but the requirement remains relevant for current PC play as of August 18, 2026.
Before changing firmware settings, check four things: TPM 2.0 must be ready, Windows must boot in UEFI mode, the Windows disk must use GPT rather than MBR, and Secure Boot must be enabled. Switching directly from Legacy/CSM to UEFI without checking the disk layout can prevent Windows from starting.
What Battlefield 6 requires
EA says Secure Boot is an official Battlefield 6 PC requirement because it helps Javelin anti-cheat verify the boot environment and defend against boot-process attacks and related tampering. It is not a graphics setting and does not improve frame rates.
EA’s technical setup also requires TPM 2.0, a GPT Windows disk, and UEFI firmware mode before Secure Boot can be enabled. The Battlefield 6 announcement specifically identifies Secure Boot as the explicit game requirement; TPM 2.0 should be treated as part of EA’s required Secure Boot configuration rather than as a claim that the game independently checks TPM in every configuration.

Secure Boot, TPM, UEFI, GPT and CSM explained
- Secure Boot: A UEFI firmware feature that permits trusted, digitally signed boot software to load before Windows.
- TPM 2.0: A hardware or firmware-based security module used for cryptographic keys and platform-integrity checks.
- UEFI: Modern firmware that replaces Legacy BIOS booting.
- GPT: The modern partition style normally required for Windows to boot in UEFI mode.
- MBR: An older partition style generally associated with Legacy or CSM boot mode.
- CSM/Legacy: Compatibility boot modes that can prevent Secure Boot from operating.
Microsoft explains that Secure Boot blocks untrusted software from loading during startup, although the feature can appear unavailable when firmware is configured for Legacy mode or CSM.
Check your PC before changing BIOS settings
1. Check BIOS mode and Secure Boot
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
msinfo32and press Enter. - In System Summary, find BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
The desired results are:
- BIOS Mode: UEFI
- Secure Boot State: On
Off means Secure Boot is supported but disabled. Unsupported may indicate missing hardware or firmware support, an outdated firmware version, or an incompatible boot configuration.

3. Check whether the Windows disk is GPT or MBR
- Press Windows key + X and open Disk Management.
- Find the disk containing the Windows installation, usually the disk containing
OSDisk (C:). - Right-click the disk’s left-hand label—such as Disk 0—not an individual partition.
- Select Properties > Volumes.
- Read Partition style.
GUID Partition Table (GPT) is ready for UEFI and Secure Boot. If it says Master Boot Record (MBR), convert the disk before switching Windows to UEFI mode.

Enable TPM 2.0 in UEFI firmware
TPM settings are not controlled by one universal BIOS menu. Restart into your motherboard or laptop’s UEFI firmware, then look under menus such as Security, Advanced, Trusted Computing, or Advanced > CPU Configuration.
Common names include:
- Intel PTT or Intel Platform Trust Technology
- AMD fTPM or AMD PSP fTPM
- Security Device Support
- TPM Device
- Trusted Computing
- Security Chip
Enable the relevant option, save the change, and return to Windows to confirm the result in tpm.msc. Use documentation for the exact motherboard or PC model; brand-level instructions may not match your firmware.

Convert the Windows disk from MBR to GPT
Only do this if the Windows disk is confirmed to be MBR. If it is already GPT, do not run these commands.
Open Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt as Administrator and validate the disk. Replace 0 with the actual Windows disk number if necessary:
mbr2gpt /validate /disk:0 /allowfullOS
Proceed only if validation succeeds:
mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowfullOS
Do not run /convert after a failed validation. Do not interrupt the process or power off the computer. Microsoft warns that, after a successful conversion, the disk can boot only in GPT mode and the change cannot simply be undone with the same command.

Enter UEFI settings from Windows
Microsoft’s documented route is:
- Open Settings.
- Go to System > Recovery on Windows 11. The equivalent labels may also be available on Windows 10.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
This avoids guessing the correct startup key. Depending on the manufacturer, that key may be Delete, F2, F10, F12, or Esc.
Enable UEFI and Secure Boot
In UEFI firmware, first confirm that Windows is configured to boot in UEFI mode. Disable Legacy or CSM where applicable. Then:

- Open the Boot or Security menu, or use the firmware search function.
- Set Secure Boot to Enabled.
- If available, set OS Type to Windows UEFI mode.
- Save changes and restart.
Some firmware requires an administrator password before Secure Boot can be changed. Others require you to restore or install factory Secure Boot keys. Do not blindly select Install Default Secure Boot Keys if you use Linux, a custom boot manager, an unusual bootloader, or a managed configuration; check the manufacturer and operating-system documentation first.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsVerify the change and relaunch Battlefield 6
After Windows starts, open msinfo32 again. Confirm:
- BIOS Mode: UEFI
- Secure Boot State: On
Open tpm.msc and confirm that the TPM is ready for use. EA notes that some Windows versions may require another restart before the new status is recognized. Once the checks are correct, launch Battlefield 6 again.
If Battlefield 6 still says Secure Boot is off
- Restart Windows once more.
- Recheck
msinfo32; Secure Boot being enabled in firmware is not enough if Windows still reports BIOS Mode: Legacy. - Confirm
tpm.mscreports that the TPM is ready for use. - Make sure you are launching the game from the intended Windows installation.
- Use the relevant launcher’s official verify or repair function for the game files.
- Restart or repair the EA/Javelin anti-cheat component through official launcher options only.
- Install appropriate motherboard firmware, chipset, Windows, and graphics-driver updates.
The final software and driver steps are general follow-up troubleshooting, not guaranteed EA remedies. If Windows reports UEFI, Secure Boot On, and a ready TPM but Battlefield 6 still rejects the PC, contact EA Support.

Secure Boot may also refuse to enable when:
- the Windows disk is still MBR;
- CSM or Legacy mode remains active;
- factory Secure Boot keys are missing;
- the firmware requires an administrator password;
- OS Type is set to Other OS;
- a custom bootloader or dual-boot arrangement is installed; or
- the firmware needs an update.
Users with Linux dual-boot systems, unsigned bootloaders, custom boot managers, drive encryption, or enterprise configurations should consult the relevant documentation before changing Secure Boot keys or boot settings. EA’s anti-cheat rationale concerns boot-process and low-level tampering, but that does not establish that every Linux or dual-boot setup is automatically blocked.
If Windows will not boot afterward
Incorrect firmware changes can make Windows unbootable. If that happens:
- Return to UEFI firmware settings.
- Confirm the Windows Boot Manager entry is selected.
- If you converted MBR to GPT, confirm firmware is set to UEFI rather than Legacy.
- If conversion was not completed correctly, temporarily restore the previous boot mode only as a recovery step.
- Use the Windows Recovery Environment and its documented startup-repair tools if necessary.
- Follow the manufacturer’s BIOS-reset procedure rather than immediately removing the CMOS battery.
Seek professional or manufacturer support if you cannot identify the Windows disk, boot entry, or correct firmware mode.
BitLocker warning
Changing TPM, UEFI, Secure Boot, or boot configuration can trigger a BitLocker recovery prompt. Before changing firmware or partition settings, make sure you can retrieve your BitLocker recovery key from your Microsoft account or your organization’s recovery-key system.

When to stop, and what alternatives exist
Proceed only when the PC supports UEFI, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0; the Windows disk is GPT or passes mbr2gpt /validate; you have a backup and any required BitLocker key; and you can identify the exact manufacturer and model documentation.
Stop and get help if validation fails, Secure Boot is unsupported, encryption recovery information is unavailable, the PC is managed by work or school, the system uses complex dual booting, or you cannot identify the Windows disk.
There is no legitimate software-only bypass to recommend. Do not disable anti-cheat, spoof system status, or install unofficial bypass tools. If the PC cannot support the requirement, practical options are manufacturer support, a compatible hardware upgrade or replacement, or playing on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the other platforms listed in EA’s Battlefield 6 FAQ.
