The anticipated early-June reveal date was speculation: EA officially announced Battlefield 2042 on June 9, 2021. EA’s later game titled Battlefield 6 was revealed in July 2025, a separate announcement timeline.
What did the 2021 leak report claim?
On May 27, 2021, HotHardware published a report describing footage presented as a Battlefield 6 video. It said the video had circulated on Discord and appeared on an unofficial Battlefield subreddit. The report described a helicopter approaching a rocket and a failed launch in which the rocket collapsed onto a building. It also noted a watermark and snippets that had appeared in earlier leaks. (HotHardware, May 27, 2021)
HotHardware attributed to Eurogamer the assessment that the footage was likely an internal or early-investor trailer, not the public reveal trailer. That is a contemporary report about the clip, not proof of who made or first uploaded it. The available sources do not independently authenticate the file or establish its original uploader.
Was a June announcement confirmed?
No. HotHardware’s story anticipated a reveal in early June, “on or around June 8th,” but presented that timing as expected rather than as an announced EA date. EA’s confirmed announcement came on June 9, 2021, when it revealed Battlefield 2042 as the next-generation entry in the series. (EA, June 9, 2021)

EA’s announcement said the game was planned for release on October 22, 2021, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. That launch plan identifies the game EA announced in 2021; it does not confirm the leaked footage’s authenticity.

The 2021 leak story used “Battlefield 6” as the anticipated name for the next game. EA’s eventual June announcement named that game Battlefield 2042. Years later, EA used Battlefield 6 for a different announcement campaign: its official reveal trailer was unveiled July 24, 2025, and a multiplayer reveal event followed on July 31.
