EA’s notes cover persistent gameplay tuning—including audio, hit registration, and Rush and Breakthrough layouts—alongside Ice Lock’s time-limited winter content. Those are separate changes: the seasonal map treatment did not add sliding physics, while Freeze was a mechanic in designated Ice Lock modes. EA’s deployment overview and full patch notes describe the update.
What audio improvements did Update 1.1.3.0 make?
EA says it tuned footsteps to make them “clearer, easier to locate, and more readable at different distances.” The goal was to make movement cues easier to distinguish and place, while also improving the reliability of audio that could drop out under performance or memory pressure.
The changes covered more than footsteps. EA adjusted memory priorities for most sounds and optimized loading for some larger audio assets, with particular attention to issues that could affect footsteps and vehicle sounds in large Battle Royale matches. In a December 3 preview, the studio also described prioritizing important combat and vehicle sounds and improving footstep clarity, distance definition, and positional awareness. That preview states the intended scope, not an independently verified outcome. EA’s December 3 audio preview provides that context.
EA cautioned that the work was not a complete audio overhaul and that edge cases could remain depending on hardware and match conditions. The patch notes therefore describe a developer tuning and reliability effort, not a guarantee that every player’s sound issue was fixed.

What map changes are in Update 1.1.3.0?
The Rush and Breakthrough changes were gameplay layout adjustments: EA says it revised multiple maps to improve attacker–defender balance, sector flow, and vehicle distribution. They are distinct from the temporary winter visuals applied to Empire State for Ice Lock.
| Mode or map | Change described by EA | Type of change |
|---|---|---|
| Breakthrough, multiple maps | Layouts adjusted for attacker–defender balance, sector flow, and vehicle distribution. | Gameplay tuning |
| Siege of Cairo, Breakthrough | An additional attacker tank was added in Sectors 1 and 3; the B capture area changed. | Vehicle distribution and objective/layout tuning |
| Manhattan Bridge, Rush | M-COM locations changed to give attackers more reliable access. | Objective placement and route/layout tuning |
| Liberation Peak, Rush | M-COM locations changed to give attackers more reliable access. | Objective placement and route/layout tuning |
| Empire State, Ice Lock | A winter visual version of the map appeared as time-limited seasonal content. | Temporary visual/event layer, not persistent mode-layout tuning |
The Siege of Cairo and Rush examples were also outlined in EA’s pre-release Winter Offensive update; the complete change list is in the patch notes.
What other gameplay and technical fixes were listed?
Beyond audio and mode layouts, EA’s notes list adjustments intended to improve combat readability and reliability. These are changes described by the developer; the notes do not provide independent measurements of their results.

How did Ice Lock and the Freeze mechanic work?
Ice Lock was a time-limited winter visual version of Empire State. EA said the visual update itself did not add icy patches or sliding physics. The event also brought Ice Lock experiences with a separate Freeze mechanic, Portal availability during the event, and an 11-tier Bonus Path. EA listed cosmetics and XP boosts among the rewards, with the Ice Climbing Axe as the final listed reward. EA’s Winter Offensive overview describes the seasonal content.

In specified Ice Lock modes, areas outside team HQs accumulated Freeze over time. At 100% Freeze, a soldier took damage over time until reaching critical health and lost passive and most gadget-based health regeneration. Sprinting slowed Freeze; an Adrenaline Injector could help avoid it, while designated or player-created heat zones could slow or reverse its effects. This mechanic was part of the event experiences, not a property of the winter map visuals alone.

On December 11, EA said it was tracking reports related to Breakthrough, Firing Range, Portal, the Main Menu, and PC micro-stuttering. It described planned updates at that time: a Steam update targeted for December 12 to address micro-stuttering and improve the Main Menu and Firing Range, and a December 15 hotfix target for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the EA app addressing Main Menu and Firing Range issues. These were historical targets, not confirmation of present-day status.

EA also reported community concerns about attacker vehicle pressure and pacing in Breakthrough, as well as objective placement and sector flow. Those reports provide launch context for the mode changes, but do not establish that every concern was resolved by Update 1.1.3.0. See EA’s December 11 community follow-up.
