What Winter Offensive added
EA’s Winter Offensive update, Update 1.1.3.0, went live at 4 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. UTC on December 9, 2025. It delivered a limited-time winter event and related map and Portal options, alongside broader gameplay and quality-of-life changes. EA’s December 5 patch notes and December 9 announcement describe the changes; they are not independent performance tests.
Ice Lock is a winter version of Empire State
Ice Lock changes the look of the Empire State map in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. It is a temporary visual conversion, not a new standalone map. EA specifically said the winter treatment does not add slippery ice patches or sliding physics.
Battlefield 6’s event uses Freeze
Special Conquest and Domination experiences in Battlefield 6 add the Freeze mechanic. In the event’s combat zone, soldiers outside their team’s headquarters accumulate cold. At 100% freeze, they take damage over time until reaching 35% health, and passive and most other health regeneration are disabled.

Sprinting slows the buildup. An Adrenaline Injector, designated heat zones, and friendly or hostile incendiary effects can help counter the cold. Freeze is therefore a combat-zone resource to manage, not a change to the map’s movement physics.
REDSEC has a distinct Ice Lock Gauntlet
REDSEC’s Ice Lock Gauntlet is separate from the Battlefield 6 Conquest and Domination event. It is a limited-time variant on Empire State Ice Lock with a fixed sequence of three missions: Deadlock, Extraction, and Wreckage. EA also listed Gauntlet Verified mode among the Portal additions.

Which Ice Lock experience is which?

EA announced these as limited-time experiences. Check the current in-game playlist before assuming any one of them is still playable.
How progression and rewards worked
The Winter Offensive Bonus Path had 11 tiers and required 110 points to complete. Weekly challenges and event challenges could award points. Its functional Ice Climbing Axe was the tier 11 reward on the free path; premium customization rewards required the Season 1 Battle Pass. The axe was an earnable gameplay item, while the premium rewards were cosmetic.

What else Update 1.1.3.0 changed
Beyond Winter Offensive content, EA said the patch addressed hit registration, soldier visibility, weapon handling, gadgets, vehicle clarity, map layouts, audio, and quality of life. The patch notes also acknowledged that some cases of settings resetting still occurred, with a later update expected to address them. These are EA’s stated patch changes and caveats, not independently verified results.

EA’s update announcement said the required update applied to Battlefield 6 owners and REDSEC, which EA described as free-to-play. The Winter Offensive update and its gameplay-impacting features were described as free or earnable; optional premium customization was tied to the Season 1 Battle Pass. This does not mean the Battlefield 6 base game itself was free.
