Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale is already available. EA launched Battlefield REDSEC on October 28, 2025, as a free-to-play experience that does not require owning Battlefield 6. REDSEC’s Battle Royale takes place on Fort Lyndon, where the Circle of Death is a lethal boundary—not a zone players can safely cross.
When did Battlefield 6 Battle Royale come out?
Battlefield REDSEC launched on October 28, 2025. EA announced it as a free-to-play experience, so you do not need to own Battlefield 6 to play it. Its Battle Royale launched with 100 players in either 25 squads of four or 50 duos, according to EA’s launch announcement. Those are launch formats, not a promise that the same playlists are available now.
For current access, check the game’s platform store and in-game playlist menu: availability and active modes can change with updates and service status.
Is Battlefield REDSEC free?
Yes. EA described REDSEC as free to play without requiring Battlefield 6. The paid base game is not a prerequisite for entering the Battle Royale experience.

What are the Fort Lyndon POIs?
Fort Lyndon is the Battle Royale map. EA’s Season 1 map brief described nine major points of interest and 16 additional POIs, a launch-era count rather than a complete current index. Its examples include coastal and desert locations as well as abandoned and military sites.
| Location examples | What EA described |
|---|---|
| Marina and Main Street | Long-abandoned locations. |
| Military Storage and R&D complexes | Remains of blacksite facilities. |
| Oil Pumps, Lighthouse, and Jewel Beach | Examples among the additional POIs. |
| USS Grant, also called the Crashed Carrier | A later-added Battle Royale POI off Fort Lyndon, with higher-value loot than standard POIs. |
The original count and examples come from EA’s Season 1 map overview. EA added USS Grant in its August 14, 2026 Game Update 1.4.2.0. The update said the carrier would be marked as a High Value Zone for the first few weeks after its release; that temporary marking should not be assumed to remain active.

EA’s Battle Royale guide map labels other locations, including Downtown, Golf Course, Chemical Storage, Radar Site, and Evac Alpha and Bravo. The available text does not provide a fully legible, current index of every location, so the launch count and these examples should not be treated as an exhaustive list. For the live layout, consult the in-game map.
How does the REDSEC Circle of Death work?
The Circle of Death is a hard lethal boundary. EA’s Battlefield REDSEC Battle Royale 101 guide, dated April 14, 2026, says that “one step into no-mans land means near-instant death.” The guide says the danger area is marked red on the minimap; near its edge, the HUD displays a red skull and the distance to the boundary.

- Watch the red-marked area on the minimap as the match progresses.
- When the red skull and distance warning appear, rotate away from the edge rather than trying to cross it.
- Choose a route and move early enough to avoid being caught by the boundary.
EA’s advice in the guide is to “avoid at all costs.” This is not a damaging ring that can be briefly crossed or used as cover: its stated consequence is near-instant death.

Playlists are time-sensitive. In a September 30, 2026 Season 5 preview, EA planned Rapid Royale Solos and Trios for the season’s start, described as faster and more condensed matches. The same announcement said the existing Solos/Duos rotation would end, Duos were planned to return later in the season, and Gauntlet would leave the active lineup. These are dated plans; check the in-game playlist menu for what is actually available.
EA’s October 1, 2026 Season 5 outlook said reconnect features for crashes or disconnections and Recommended Drop Zones in Casual BR were under exploration. The proposed drop-zone feature would guide newcomers toward POIs and nearby loot while avoiding immediate squad conflict. EA noted that features could change through Battlefield Labs feedback, so neither proposal should be treated as live unless a later update confirms it.
