Battlefield REDSEC is a free-to-play, standalone Battlefield experience: you do not need to buy Battlefield 6. Download it from a supported PC or console store, launch the game, and sign in with an EA Account. A persistent internet connection is required. EA Help: REDSEC requirements and how to play
How do I download Battlefield REDSEC?
- Open your platform’s store. On PC, use the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store. On PlayStation 5, open PlayStation Store; on Xbox Series X|S, open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Battlefield REDSEC. Select the game and choose Download or Play Free, depending on the store’s displayed option.
- Launch the game and sign in. Use an EA Account and keep an internet connection available.
These are EA’s listed platforms and access steps; store availability and labels can vary by platform or region. See EA’s REDSEC download and access instructions.
Do I need to own Battlefield 6 to play REDSEC?
No. REDSEC is standalone and free to play; Battlefield 6 ownership is not a requirement. The game does offer optional in-game purchases, including premium cosmetic Battle Pass tiers. EA says progression and the Battle Pass are shared between Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, but paid tiers are not needed to download or play REDSEC. Details are in EA’s REDSEC FAQ.
What platforms is REDSEC on?
| Platform | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| PC | EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store |
| Xbox Series X|S | Microsoft Store |
EA lists these platforms in its REDSEC requirements and access guide. The regional exception EA specifies is for PlayStation systems in Germany: a PlayStation Plus subscription is required there to download REDSEC components, including Battleground and Gauntlet, because of regional age restrictions and content regulations. This requirement should not be generalized to other countries or platforms.

For context, EA’s October 28, 2025 launch announcement introduced Battle Royale, the squad-elimination mode Gauntlet, and Portal on Fort Lyndon. At launch, EA described Battle Royale as a 100-player mode and Gauntlet as eight four-player squads competing in round-based missions. The launch community update further described Battle Royale squads as either 25 four-player teams or 50 duos. Those are dated launch details, not confirmation of today’s settings or playlist. Gauntlet
Gauntlet was part of the launch experience and centered on squads completing round-based missions. Its current availability is not established by EA’s evergreen help page, so check the live game for its status.
