Yes. Battlefield REDSEC launched on October 28, 2025, with Battle Royale queues for both two-player Duos and four-player squads. EA confirmed the formats in its launch-day mode update: each match had 100 players, arranged as either 50 duos or 25 four-player squads.
What Battle Royale formats were available at launch?

That answers the practical question for players joining with one friend: Duos was a launch format, so a four-person group was not required. The 100-player figure describes the announced match setup, not REDSEC’s current player population.
Did players need to own Battlefield 6?
No. REDSEC launched alongside Battlefield 6 Season One on October 28, 2025, as a free-to-play experience, according to EA’s launch announcement. EA also said friends could squad up in REDSEC whether or not they owned Battlefield 6.

Is Duos still available?
Launch availability and later playlist availability are separate questions. In an update dated September 30, 2026, EA said it was planning for Battle Royale Duos to return later in Season 5. That statement described a plan; it did not confirm that the playlist had already returned by October 8, 2026. Check the in-game playlist for current availability.

Gauntlet was another mode included at REDSEC’s launch, but it is separate from Battle Royale. PlayStation’s launch-day coverage described Battle Royale Duos and four-player squads for Gauntlet. Gauntlet’s team setup should not be mistaken for the Battle Royale queue formats.
