Electronic Arts announced a Season 5 Elite Series running December 4, 2026, through January 16, 2027, with a different format and a $1,338,000 USD prize pool. That is the announced return of the series, not confirmation that the postponed inaugural event will proceed as originally planned.
What happened to the original $1 million tournament?
Dot Esports reported that EA halted the inaugural Elite Series across all regions after an unforeseen technical issue affected competitive integrity. The report, updated August 4, 2026, said EA accepted responsibility and planned to share more information. The linked EA social post was not accessible to independently verify its exact wording, so the postponement details here are attributed to Dot Esports rather than presented as a direct EA quotation. The “with no new date” wording reflected the status at the time of that report. EA subsequently announced a new Season 5 schedule. Its announcement does not say that the original event’s format or $1 million prize pool has been retained.
What is the new Elite Series schedule?

How the announced Season 5 format differs
The postponed inaugural plan was reported as a captain-draft event that moved from Battle Royale into a Gauntlet-style finale. In contrast, EA says the announced Season 5 competition will focus entirely on Battle Royale and finish with regional Match Point finals. Teams and match days
EA lists 48 teams per region. Teams are arranged in four groups of 12, with groups paired into 24-team lobbies on match days. After six regular-season match days, the top 24 teams in each region advance to that region’s final. Prize pool
EA lists $1,338,000 USD in total prizes for Season 5, allocated as $446,000 USD per region across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. How new teams can try to qualify
EA identifies the Open Series as the route for new challengers to reach Elite. It runs October 24 through November 21, 2026, across the same three regions. Each region has three two-day Cups followed by a 24-team regional final. Up to 384 teams can enter each Cup in each region; the top four from each event automatically qualify for the final, and the remaining places are determined by the overall leaderboard. Registration opens in early October, and squads must register separately for each Open Series event. EA directs competitors to the Battlefield esports portal and Battlefy for team creation, check-in, and event information. EA Help says a team leader must invite members; joining a team does not itself register that squad for an event. Where to watch
EA says competitors will stream their matches live, but its announcement says further broadcast coverage details will be shared closer to the season. Don’t confuse the Elite Series with Season 4 Cash Cups
EA also lists Season 4 Cash Cups from September 19 through October 10, 2026. They are a separate open-registration series, not the Elite Series or its prize pool.
