Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Start with reversible changes—such as closing background apps—and move to repair or diagnosis only if the crash continues. None is guaranteed to fix every crash. If the game stays open but disconnects or cannot connect online, use EA’s connection troubleshooting instead; that is a different problem.
1. Close background applications
EA recommends closing background apps when an EA game crashes or freezes. For a controlled test, close other running applications and overlays, then try to reproduce the problem. If there is no improvement, reopen them; this helps avoid treating an unrelated app as the cause.
EA’s PC crash and performance troubleshooting covers this and other general steps.
2. Repair Battlefield V’s game files
Damaged or incomplete game files can be checked with the EA app’s repair option. In the EA app, open Library, find Battlefield V, select Manage, then choose Repair. Let the check finish before launching the game again.

This path applies to the EA app. The available evidence does not establish the verification steps for other launchers, so use the relevant launcher’s own help rather than applying an unverified menu path.
3. Test a clean boot
If closing ordinary apps does not help, a clean boot can help identify whether a background task is interfering. Follow EA’s clean-boot instructions, test Battlefield V, then restore normal startup settings. A clean boot is a diagnostic test, not a recommended permanent way to run the PC.

4. Cap the frame rate or enable V-Sync
EA includes frame-rate capping and V-Sync among its general crash and freeze troubleshooting options. Try one setting at a time, then play long enough to see whether the same crash occurs. V-Sync is typically available in the game’s graphics settings; if it is not, EA directs players to their graphics-card manufacturer’s control options. These are tests, not confirmed Battlefield V-specific cures.
5. If the issue is DX12 stutter, test DX11
EA’s Battlefield V-specific guidance addresses stuttering when DirectX 12 is enabled: turn DirectX 12 off in the game’s Video settings and restart. Try this if your symptom is DX12-related stutter; the advice does not establish that DX11 fixes crashes generally. EA’s older game-specific page now redirects to its broader connection troubleshooting page, so treat the DX12 note as targeted historical guidance rather than current universal crash advice.

6. Compare your PC with the published requirements
EA’s release-era Battlefield V PC performance guide listed the following hardware figures. They are historical requirements from the game’s original release period, not a guarantee of compatibility with a current Windows installation.
| Profile | Memory | Graphics compatibility | Disk space |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 8 GB RAM | DirectX 11.0-compatible video card | 50 GB |
| Recommended | 12 GB RAM | DirectX 11.1 compatibility | 50 GB |
These figures come from EA’s Battlefield V PC performance guide. Use them as a reference when checking the system, not as a reason by themselves to buy an upgrade.

7. Disable overlays one at a time
An EA community response suggests disabling the Origin in-game overlay for one Battlefield V crashing setup. This is anecdotal community troubleshooting, not official proof that an overlay is a common cause. If you test it, disable only one overlay at a time, retry the game, and turn it back on if the crash is unchanged.

If the crash persists, collect a DxDiag report and follow EA’s PC issue-diagnosis and support steps. EA’s Battlefield V support hub links to its DxDiag instructions and general crash help, as well as contact options. Diagnostics can help support narrow down a system-specific cause; avoid registry edits or other aggressive changes when the cause is unknown.

Choose the next step by symptom
- Crash at launch or during play: start with background apps, then repair game files; use a clean boot if needed.
- Freeze or unstable performance: try a frame-rate cap or V-Sync as a reversible test.
- Stutter specifically with DX12: test DX11 by switching off DX12 in Video settings and restarting.
- Game remains open but disconnects: follow EA’s connection help, rather than treating it as a crash.
- No change after the basic checks: collect DxDiag and use the Battlefield V support hub.
