Yes: Blizzard can ban Overwatch 2 accounts for continued use of unauthorized peripherals that disguise mouse-and-keyboard input as controller input in the Controller Pool. Blizzard says this can give players an unfair advantage by combining mouse aiming with controller aim assist. Console players who want mouse and keyboard have a legitimate option: opt into the separate Mouse and Keyboard Pool.
What is Ximming in Overwatch 2?
“Ximming” is Blizzard’s term for using an unauthorized peripheral to make a mouse and keyboard appear to a console as a controller. The issue is not simply owning an adapter or using nonstandard hardware: Blizzard’s policy targets devices used to circumvent its input rules.
Blizzard says this setup can give a player the precision of mouse aiming while retaining controller aim assist. That combination is the fairness concern behind its enforcement. In its 2024 policy announcement, Senior Game Producer Adam Massey and Lead Gameplay Engineer Daniel Razza described devices that let players use mouse and keyboard while “tricking the console into thinking that the inputs are coming from a controller.” Blizzard’s explanation of unapproved peripherals also says that gaining an unfair advantage is cheating under its Code of Conduct.
Can you get banned for using a XIM in Overwatch 2?
Yes. Blizzard’s announced policy has become stricter over time. The Season 11 and Season 12 measures focused on restricting Competitive access and moving detected players out of the controller environment; in its Season 18 policy, Blizzard said continued use to bypass Controller Pool restrictions could lead to a full game-account ban, regardless of rank or mode.

These are season-specific policy announcements, not a guarantee that every detected case receives the same penalty. The latest rule described here is the Season 18 warning about a possible full account ban for continued circumvention.
Can console players use mouse and keyboard in Overwatch 2?
Yes. Blizzard announced native console mouse-and-keyboard support through a separate Mouse and Keyboard Pool. Players who choose that pool are matched separately from controller players; Blizzard says aim assist is unavailable in its Competitive matches. This is the official route for players who prefer mouse and keyboard, rather than disguising those inputs to enter the Controller Pool.

What happens if Blizzard detects an unauthorized peripheral?
The consequence depends on the applicable policy and whether the player continues using the device to bypass input restrictions. The original Season 11 approach began with a temporary console Competitive restriction and escalated for continued use. Blizzard’s Season 18 policy says continued circumvention in the Controller Pool could result in a full account ban. Its Season 12 update also described detected players losing Competitive access and being moved into the PC input pool for unranked play.
What enforcement numbers has Blizzard reported?
Blizzard’s figures cover different periods and different kinds of enforcement, so they should not be added together or treated as equivalent counts.

Blizzard has not published an independently audited false-positive rate or a denominator that would show what share of console players was affected. The reported figures therefore do not establish how frequently an incorrect detection occurs.

Blizzard said accessibility needs informed the design of its detection and enforcement approach, including efforts to reduce the risk of flagging accessibility-focused devices and to let affected accessibility users continue playing. The 2026 message, as reproduced by the community post, likewise described distinguishing those devices from unauthorized peripherals as a challenge.

This qualification matters: Blizzard’s policy is about circumventing input rules for an advantage, not a blanket claim that every adapter, nonstandard device, or player using accessibility hardware is cheating. The published figures do not independently show how often mistaken detections happen.
