For a sensible Bayonetta PC setup, start at your monitor’s native resolution and use the game’s graphics options to address any instability. If performance is inconsistent, lower resolution first, then adjust graphics quality and effects. These are troubleshooting steps based on the controls described in SEGA’s manual, not a benchmarked preset for every PC. The PC version is reported to be capped at 60 FPS, so a high-refresh display cannot make the game render above that cap.
Recommended starting settings
- Set resolution to your monitor’s native resolution. If performance is inconsistent, try a lower resolution first. SEGA’s manual notes that higher resolutions require more graphics processing power.
- Adjust graphics options gradually. If lowering resolution does not help, experiment with graphics quality, anti-aliasing, shadows, and SSAO. Change one setting at a time and check whether performance becomes steadier; the available sources do not establish which effect is the largest performance cost on a given system.
- Keep the 60 FPS cap in mind. PCGamingWiki reports a 60 FPS cap, with default cutscenes running at 30 FPS. A display with a higher refresh rate does not remove the game’s reported frame-rate cap.
- Try borderless mode if fullscreen behaves poorly. This is a reasonable troubleshooting step for refresh-rate issues or periodic stutter, especially on a variable-refresh-rate display. See the display-mode guidance below before changing driver or configuration settings.
- Choose controls for comfort, not assumed latency. Use a gamepad or keyboard and mouse according to which makes movement, evasion, lock-on, attacks, and camera control comfortable. The sources do not show that one input method is inherently more responsive.
Which graphics options can you change?
SEGA’s PC manual lists controls for resolution, display mode, graphics quality, anti-aliasing, texture quality, texture filtering, shadow quality, SSAO quality, HDR, and VSync. It does not provide a universal best setting for modern PCs. Treat each adjustment as a diagnostic choice: if the game is not running smoothly, change an option, then assess whether it helped on your system.
- Resolution: The manual specifically warns that higher resolutions require more graphics processing power.
- Graphics quality and effects: Graphics quality, anti-aliasing, shadows, and SSAO are available to adjust. No current controlled comparison establishes which produces the greatest performance improvement.
- Texture options: Texture quality and texture filtering are configurable; the sources do not identify a recommended value for a particular graphics card.
- HDR and VSync: Both are listed in the manual. Their best choices depend on the display and the issue you are trying to resolve.
PCGamingWiki also reports widescreen and 4K support, up to 16x MSAA and anisotropic filtering. Those capabilities describe options or support, not a guarantee that every PC can use the highest values smoothly.
Fullscreen, borderless, or windowed?
The manual provides fullscreen, borderless, and windowed display modes. PCGamingWiki reports that fullscreen can set the monitor to 60 Hz and describes borderless mode as a workaround for periodic 60 FPS stutter and a way to synchronize with variable-refresh-rate displays above 60 Hz.

| Mode | When to try it | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Fullscreen | Use it as a starting point if it behaves correctly with your display. | PCGamingWiki reports fullscreen can set the monitor to 60 Hz, which may be undesirable on a higher-refresh display. |
| Borderless | Try it if fullscreen causes refresh-rate problems or periodic stutter, or if you use variable refresh rate. | These benefits are community-documented workarounds, not a manufacturer support guarantee. |
| Windowed | Use it if you prefer a windowed game or need to compare behavior with the other modes. | The sources do not establish that it improves performance or frame pacing. |
PCGamingWiki also describes Special K/D3D9Ex or a refresh-rate configuration adjustment for high-refresh displays. These are community-maintained technical approaches, not official SEGA fixes; compatibility and setup details can change. Start with the game’s own display options before trying third-party tools or configuration changes.
What to do if Bayonetta stutters
- Check the display mode. If you are using fullscreen and see periodic stutter or unexpected refresh behavior, compare it with borderless mode.
- Reduce resolution if performance is inconsistent. This follows the manual’s guidance that higher resolution demands more graphics processing power.
- Adjust graphics options one at a time. Try graphics quality, anti-aliasing, shadows, or SSAO, then check whether the symptom changes. This is practical troubleshooting, not a guarantee that any single option is responsible.
- Consider community fixes only if in-game options are insufficient. PCGamingWiki documents a SilentPatch-based frame-limiter fix for periodic stutter. It also documents a BayoHook option for 60 FPS cutscenes. Both involve third-party modifications; check current compatibility and setup details before using them.
Keep expectations aligned with the reported frame behavior: the PC version is capped at 60 FPS, and cutscenes run at 30 FPS by default. A change that targets cutscenes is distinct from a fix for stutter during gameplay.

System requirements and Windows compatibility
Steam’s Bayonetta listing gives these requirements. They are the published minimum and recommended specifications, not a current benchmark or promise of a particular frame rate on your PC.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i3-3220 | Intel Core i5-4460 |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | AMD Radeon HD 6950 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 (768 MB VRAM) | AMD Radeon HD 7870 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (2 GB or more VRAM) |
| DirectX | Version 9.0c | Version 9.0c |
| Storage | 20 GB available space | 20 GB available space |
The Steam listing names Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 for the game, but Steam separately warns that Steam Client support has been Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024. The game’s listed operating systems should not be read as a statement that the Steam client currently supports every one of them.

Gamepad or keyboard and mouse?
The official manual documents gamepad controls. The left stick or directional pad moves Bayonetta, the right stick controls the camera, and the buttons and triggers cover actions such as jump, kick or gun, shoot or action, punch or gun, taunt, lock-on, weapon switching, and evasion.
For comfortable play, prioritize access to evade, lock-on, and attacks while keeping camera control manageable. A PC-compatible Xbox-style controller is an option if you prefer gamepad controls, but a controller is not required by the cited requirements or manual. The available sources do not compare controller models or measure gamepad latency against keyboard and mouse.
