Choose Manager Career to run a club, or Player Career to follow one footballer. For a manageable first save, begin with a Tactical Preset if you choose Manager Career, use the Central Task List to decide what to do next, and pick a difficulty that suits the experience you want. The key is to make a few deliberate choices at setup, then build tactics and development around your squad rather than trying to manage everything at once.
Which Career Mode should you choose?

In Manager Career, FC 25’s launch-era options included Live Start Points and Snapshots, alongside women’s football and FC IQ integration. Live Start Points were designed to reflect real-world season events, but current content availability should be checked in-game. EA’s current guide describes additional paths for starting a manager career, including creating a manager or playing as a real manager. Player Career lets you start as a new men’s or women’s player, a real player, or an available ICON. A new player can begin with an Origin Story that shapes the starting narrative and progression. The ICON list and menu options can change, so check what the game offers when you create a save.

- From the main menu, select Career Mode, then choose Manager Career or Player Career. Install a squad update if the game prompts you.
- Review Quick Settings and the other setup tabs before starting. Some career settings lock at save creation, so decide on the challenge level and other fixed options now.
- After entering the career hub, open the Central tab and check the Task List. EA says tasks are ordered by priority in both career modes, making this a useful way to find your next step.
- Choose the gameplay balance that fits you. FC 25’s documented choices include Realistic, Classic, and Custom. Match or gameplay simulation settings can be changed during a save, while other settings may be locked at creation.
The setup options can also change how demanding the wider career is. Tougher examples include stricter negotiations, harsher board expectations, slower training-plan recovery, transfer embargoes, and simulation-style gameplay. Easier examples include a financial takeover, disabling sacking or scouting, and faster player development. The exact choices available depend on the setup menu.

EA’s current help guide applies broadly to EA SPORTS FC Career Mode and may describe features or menus added after FC 25. For FC 25-specific mechanics, use the title’s launch-period notes and verify present availability in your own game. Manager Career: build tactics around your squad
Start with a Tactical Preset
A Tactical Preset is a pre-configured starting point for team tactics. EA’s current guide names FC Preset, Direct Play, Cautious, and Custom. The presets work across available formations, though custom presets may not be compatible with every formation. The descriptions indicate different approaches: Direct Play favors a more direct attack, while Cautious emphasizes limiting chances; choose the approach that matches how you want to play.
FC 25’s FC IQ links player roles with team tactics and tactical presets. A preset combines key roles with build-up and defensive approaches, and the formation affects whether its required roles are available in their natural positions. Start with a formation your squad can fill, then check players’ roles and familiarity before making major tactical changes. This is a practical starting method, not a universally best tactic: fit depends on your players and preferred style.

Look beyond overall rating
FC 25’s launch gameplay notes describe 31 Player Roles and 52 Role-Focus combinations. Roles have their own strengths and tradeoffs, so a player’s overall rating alone does not establish whether they suit your setup. In Manager Career, coaches can raise Role Familiarity when their Tactical Knowledge exceeds a player’s natural Role Rating and that player can play the position. Scouting can also target roles and fit with a tactical preset.
Manager Career: make sensible squad and transfer decisions
Use your chosen system to identify what the squad needs. If you recruit, look for players who can fill the roles your formation requires rather than searching by overall rating alone. EA’s general guidance also recommends scouting younger players with potential, considering loans when prospects need regular minutes, checking free agents at the beginning of each season, and tracking wages and bonuses. Plan spending around club objectives; selling developed youth players can help fund larger signings, though no single transfer plan suits every club.
Manager Career: develop players and use coaches
FC 25’s Development Plans 2.0 are role-based: each role’s plan focuses on relevant attributes, and consistent growth in those attributes can lead to a Role Rating increase and further attribute development. The interface shows development factors and whether a player is in the Growth, Peak, or Retiring stage. Use those details to choose plans that serve the player’s role and your squad needs.

Coaches help players progress by reducing development time in specific departments. EA’s guide gives this menu route: Squad → Tactical Preset tile → Coach Management → department → Hire Coach. Consider where the squad needs development support rather than hiring without a clear priority.

Manager Career: develop prospects in the Youth Academy
FC 25’s Career Mode Deep Dive says Youth Academy scouting covers more than 160 countries. Scouts can target up to four positions and three roles within selected positions. In Manager Career, youth players can also take part in 5v5 Rush tournaments; EA said tournament wins can significantly increase their development.
Scout for positions and roles that fit your team, monitor prospects, and give graduates a realistic path to senior minutes. EA’s general guidance recommends scouting regions that suit the club’s style and promoting youth gradually; development is a longer-term squad-building route, not a promise that every prospect will be ready immediately.

Manager Career: prepare for matches without chasing morale
EA’s FC 25 notes describe a morale “sweet spot”: beyond an unspecified level, players can become complacent and their mental attributes may be reduced. The source does not establish a fixed threshold, so use the in-game feedback rather than aiming for a particular number. Press-conference questions are informed by tactical choices, the opposition’s setup, and match statistics.
Player Career: choose a start and improve your player
Pick an Origin Story to define the kind of beginning you want, or choose a custom start. EA’s current guide lists Great Expectations, Climb to the Top, Return to Glory, Clean Slate, and Custom. FC 25’s launch notes describe the first three named paths as well as Clean Slate and custom starts. EA says the selected origin is fixed for that save, so choose before proceeding.

Save length and missing-save troubleshooting
How many seasons can you play?
EA’s Career Mode help page, accessed on October 4, 2026, states that a save can last up to 15 seasons. Check EA’s current Career Mode guide for its latest help steps and guidance.
What if you can’t find a save or the Load button is missing?
- Check that you are using the correct platform profile.
- If you play across devices, check the cloud-save setting and whether the save has synced.
- Check whether your game version automatically loads the most recent save.
- If Load is missing, EA recommends selecting Career Mode again from the main menu to refresh the save list.
