Choose PC if your priority is the broadest documented anime catalog, Switch if you want handheld play, and PlayStation if you want a dedicated living-room console with a substantial anime and manga selection. Those recommendations describe catalog positioning and use cases, not independently measured performance, price, or online population.
Start with the exact games you want, then verify their current storefront listing, supported platform and region before buying hardware. Platform support is title-specific, and an announced game is not the same as a released game.

The short answer
| Platform | Best for | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| PC via Steam | Players who want the widest documented anime-game coverage and the flexibility of a computer | Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe says its entire anime lineup is on Steam and describes PC as having the deepest catalog. That is the publisher’s editorial position, not an independently verified count of every anime game on every store. |
| Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 | Players who value handheld play as much as television play | Bandai Namco highlights portability and major anime franchises on Switch. Individual titles can differ between Switch generations, so check the exact model listed by the publisher. |
| PlayStation 5 | Players who want a conventional console and a curated anime and manga library | PlayStation’s US guide covers role-playing, fighting, story-driven and online games, including several major licensed series. It is an editorial selection, not a guarantee that every anime game is available or that PS5 is cheapest or fastest. |
The practical order is simple: make a must-play list, check each game’s official platform line, decide whether you need portable play, and only then choose hardware. A platform with many suitable games is more useful than one that merely looks attractive in a general comparison.
Why the exact game matters more than the platform label
Anime games are not one genre or one release pattern. A fighting game, a turn-based role-playing game, a story adventure and an online competitive title can have completely different platform support. Even games from the same franchise may launch on different systems or arrive on one platform later.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Use the platform as a filter rather than as a promise. A publisher’s store page is the authoritative place to confirm whether the game is released, announced, or unavailable for your system. Check the edition name as well: a game can have separate listings for a previous-generation console, a current-generation console, a particular Switch model, and Windows PC.
Three questions to answer for every target game
- Is it released? A scheduled date is future support, not a game you can play today.
- Is your exact hardware listed? “Switch” and “Switch 2,” or “PlayStation” and “PS5,” should not be treated as interchangeable without a publisher statement.
- Does the mode you care about exist on that platform? Solo, local, story and online modes can be described differently by each publisher.
PC via Steam: the strongest breadth-first alternative
PC via Steam is the clearest choice when your main goal is access to as many anime titles as possible. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s anime-games page says its entire anime lineup is available on Steam and calls PC the platform with the deepest catalog. You can read the publisher’s platform overview at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s anime games page.
That statement is useful for Bandai Namco’s own lineup, but it should not be stretched into a census of every publisher’s catalog. Other publishers make their own platform decisions, and a game can be absent from Steam, delayed there, or listed with different regional availability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy PC suits anime-game collectors
- Catalog breadth: The publisher specifically positions Steam as its deepest anime catalog.
- Desk or television use: A PC can fit a monitor-based setup or a television setup, depending on the equipment you already own.
- Title-by-title flexibility: You can check each game’s Steam listing before committing to a particular machine.
What to verify before choosing PC
This evidence does not compare gaming-PC prices, frame rates, operating-system requirements or handheld-PC compatibility. Those details vary by game. Read the minimum and recommended specifications on each title’s current store page and compare them with the computer you plan to use. Do not assume that a machine capable of one anime game will run every other title in the same franchise or publisher catalog.
PC is therefore a catalog recommendation, not a hardware recommendation. If you do not already have a suitable computer, the cost and configuration decision must be made from the requirements of your own shortlist; no universal specification or price is established here.

- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
Anime examples associated with the PC catalog
Bandai Namco’s overview discusses games based on Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, My Hero Academia, Sword Art Online and Gundam. Those franchise mentions show the range of licensed anime properties the publisher is addressing, but they do not mean that every installment is available on every platform at the same time.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: the portable-first choice
Switch is the most straightforward alternative when playing away from a desk or television is part of the requirement. Bandai Namco emphasizes portability alongside major anime franchises on Switch. The important qualification is model support: a listing for Switch does not automatically establish support for Switch 2, and a Switch 2 listing does not automatically establish a native Switch version.

A confirmed cross-generation example
KOEI TECMO America lists BLUE REFLECTION Quartet for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC via Steam, with a digital release date of July 30, 2026. Its official page describes a collection combining two console games with content adapted from the anime series and mobile game. The same page says the original BLUE REFLECTION SUN mobile/PC game was available from February 2023 through May 2024. See the publisher’s listing at KOEI TECMO America’s BLUE REFLECTION Quartet page.
Because July 30, 2026 is a release date, it should be treated as scheduled availability rather than proof that the collection was playable before that date. Store listings and regional release information can change, so check the current page when you are ready to buy.
Who should choose Switch
- Players who want to continue a game in handheld mode as well as on a television.
- Players whose shortlist contains titles explicitly listing Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.
- Players willing to check generation-specific support instead of assuming backward compatibility.
The supplied evidence does not establish comparative frame rates, battery life, resolution, physical-edition availability or pricing for either Switch generation. Those factors should be checked for each game and hardware bundle rather than inferred from the platform name.

- This model includes battery life of approximately 4.5 - 9 hours.
- The battery life will depend on the games you play. For instance, the battery will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (games sold separately)

PlayStation 5: a dedicated-console library with broad anime coverage
PlayStation is the strongest conventional-console alternative in the reviewed material. PlayStation’s US editorial guide, The best anime and manga games on PS4 and PS5, presents a varied selection rather than a single genre. Its examples include role-playing, fighting, story-focused and online experiences.

- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
- HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT

The guide is an editorial selection, so it should be read as a starting catalog of notable games, not as a complete availability list or a performance ranking. It also references both PS4 and PS5. Confirm the exact console and edition on the individual game page before purchase, especially when your shortlist includes older releases.
Why PlayStation fits living-room players
A dedicated console can be the simplest route if you want to play from a television without configuring a general-purpose computer. PlayStation’s guide also makes it easier to scan by preferred experience: role-playing, fighting, story and online play are all represented. That does not prove that every game offers the same mode on every PlayStation generation; read the listing for the title you intend to play.
No independently measured comparison of PS5 performance, catalog size, online population or total ownership cost is established by the available sources. Treat PS5 as a library and format recommendation, not as a claim that it wins a benchmark.
A future example: announced support is not current availability
JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON illustrates why release status belongs in your decision process. SHUEISHA GAMES describes it as a survivors-royale game with solo play and online play for up to eight players. The listed platforms are Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, with a scheduled 2027 release and price not yet announced. The announcement is at SHUEISHA GAMES’ official page.

- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
If this is a must-play, you can use its announced platform list to avoid buying an incompatible system, but you cannot use it as evidence of a game available today. The release year, final price and regional details may still change. A future title should influence a purchase only if you are comfortable waiting and rechecking the announcement.
Match the platform to the way you play
| Your priority | Most logical first check | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum anime catalog breadth | PC via Steam | Bandai Namco specifically describes Steam as having the deepest catalog for its anime lineup. |
| Handheld play | Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 | Portability is the central advantage highlighted for Switch; verify the exact generation per title. |
| Dedicated television console | PlayStation 5 | PlayStation’s guide presents a broad set of anime and manga games across role-playing, fighting, story and online categories. |
| A specific upcoming game | Whichever platform the announcement lists | For example, JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON lists Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam for a scheduled 2027 release. |
| One particular franchise installment | The title’s official store page | Franchise-wide assumptions are unsafe because support and release timing are title-specific. |
How to choose without buying the wrong system
- Write a must-play list. Include exact subtitles, not just franchise names. “Dragon Ball” or “Persona” is too broad for a hardware decision because installments can differ.
- Mark each game’s status. Label it released, scheduled or unconfirmed for your region. Keep scheduled games separate from games you can play now.
- Record the exact platform wording. Note whether the listing says Steam, Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Identify your play setting. Decide whether handheld use is essential, optional or irrelevant. This separates Switch from the two television-or-desk-focused choices more reliably than a generic popularity ranking.
- Classify the experience. Mark each game as fighting, role-playing, story-driven, action or online-focused. PlayStation’s guide and the publisher pages use different mixes of these categories, so your preferred type should drive the shortlist.
- Check technical requirements. For PC, compare every game’s stated requirements with your computer. For consoles, confirm the supported generation and edition.
- Recheck before purchase. Store pages, release dates and regional listings can change, especially for announced games.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every anime game is everywhere
Anime licensing is not a single platform agreement. A publisher may support PC, PlayStation and Switch for one title while another appears on fewer systems. Use the exact title page rather than a franchise assumption.
Treating a publisher’s catalog claim as an industry census
Bandai Namco’s statement that its anime lineup is on Steam supports PC as a strong option for that publisher’s games. It does not establish the total number of anime games across all publishers or prove that Steam has every title you may want.
Confusing an editorial list with a complete store catalog
PlayStation’s anime and manga guide is useful for discovering examples, but it is curated. A title not mentioned there is not necessarily unavailable, and a title mentioned there still requires a current platform check.

Buying for a future announcement alone
JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON is listed for 2027 with no price announced. Announced support can help you plan, but it cannot answer whether the game is playable now, what it will cost, or whether the release will remain on schedule.
Best Value
- One player can use a Joy-Con in each hand
- Two players can each take one
- Multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options (additional Joy-Con sold separately)
- Slip a set of Joy-Con into a Joy-Con grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Comparing price or performance without comparable figures
The available sources do not provide a like-for-like test of frame rate, resolution, catalog counts, online population, hardware cost or total ownership cost. Avoid declaring a winner on those measures. Compare them only when you have current figures for the same game, edition, region and test conditions.
Platform-specific buying checklist
If you are leaning toward PC via Steam
- List the Steam pages for every must-play title.
- Check minimum and recommended specifications for each game.
- Confirm the game is released in your region rather than merely announced.
- Keep a separate note for console-exclusive or delayed releases.
If you are leaning toward Switch or Switch 2
- Decide whether the original Switch, Switch 2 or either model is acceptable.
- Verify the exact model on every game listing.
- Check whether your preferred titles support handheld play as expected.
- For future games, record the announced date and revisit the listing near launch.
If you are leaning toward PS5
- Use the PlayStation guide to discover candidates, then open each title’s current listing.
- Confirm whether the version you want is PS5, PS4 or both.
- Check whether the game’s advertised mode matches your preference for role-playing, fighting, story or online play.
- Do not infer performance or price advantages from the editorial guide.
How the major anime-game styles map to these choices
Fighting games
Fighting-game fans should begin with the exact title and its supported console generation. PlayStation’s guide includes Guilty Gear -Strive-, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero and HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT, giving PS5 a clear set of examples. PC and Switch remain viable only where the individual listing confirms support.
Role-playing and story games
Persona 3 Reload is one of PlayStation’s listed role-playing examples. The presence of a role-playing game in a guide does not establish that every related title uses the same platform mix, so verify each installment separately. If portability is important for a story game, Switch should be considered only after checking the specific version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Online support is title-specific and can change. SHUEISHA GAMES describes JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON as supporting solo play and online play for up to eight players, but that support is tied to its scheduled 2027 release. Do not treat the announcement as evidence of a current player population or final network requirements.
Final recommendation
Choose PC via Steam when breadth is your deciding factor, because Bandai Namco positions Steam as the deepest home for its anime lineup. Choose Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 when handheld play is essential, checking the exact generation for every game. Choose PS5 when you want a dedicated console and the titles in PlayStation’s anime and manga selection appeal to you.
The safest purchase is the one that matches a verified list of games you will actually play. Check each title’s current platform, region and release status, and treat future announcements such as the 2027 JUJUTSU KAISEN RUMBLE: SURVIVATON release as plans rather than present availability.
