Best alt:V Server Hosting in 2026? Why a Current Ranking Isn’t Possible

The official alt:V site says the service has shut down, so no current host ranking is supported. Here is what the old server specifications and setup documentation still tell you—and what they do not.

There is no evidence-supported list of the best alt:V server hosts for 2026. The official alt:V website says the service has shut down, so a provider ranking could wrongly suggest you can still launch a functioning alt:V server. The available technical documentation is useful as a record of how servers were configured, not as current hosting or hardware-buying advice.

This distinction matters if you are trying to join a server, rent one, or make sense of old setup instructions. The sources reviewed here do not verify a currently usable alt:V hosting service, a successor, or any provider’s compatibility. They also do not prove that no community project or compatible instance exists. The practical answer is to verify present operation before spending money—and not mistake historical technical details for evidence that the service is available today.

Is alt:V still available?

The official alt:V website states, “alt:V has been shut down.” The announcement date is not established, so it should not be assigned a date. The site describes alt:V as a free Grand Theft Auto V modification that enabled play on dedicated servers with custom game modes; that description explains what the service was, not whether it remains usable.

No current provider or successor was verified as operating a usable alt:V hosting service. That is not proof that no community project or compatible instance exists, but it is not enough to recommend a host or claim that a server can be run today. For that reason, this article does not rank providers.

There is an important difference between not verified and does not exist. The available sources do not establish that every possible community effort has stopped, nor did they independently test a server or contact every host. They provide no provider-level evidence adequate to support a present-day recommendation. A responsible answer should preserve that limitation rather than turn an absence of evidence into a definitive claim about every server or project.

The status source is the official alt:V site. Its search result had been crawled about three months before the article was prepared, so service status is a volatile fact that should be checked again immediately before publication. The reviewed material does not identify an individual spokesperson or announcement date. Do not add one based on inference.

What the shutdown means if you want to play or host

If you are looking for a server to join

Do not treat an old provider listing, server tutorial, or configuration example as confirmation that alt:V is available. The official shutdown notice is the relevant status information; the historical feature descriptions and setup documentation do not establish current access to the service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An old server list or guide can still describe how things worked when the material was written. It cannot, by itself, answer whether the relevant service is operating now, whether players can connect, or whether any community instance is compatible with the clients people have access to. Those are current-status questions and require current confirmation. No active server list or method for joining a functioning service is established here.

If you are planning to rent a server

Do not purchase hosting on the assumption that a provider can run a functioning alt:V instance. Before spending money, you would need direct, current confirmation from the provider that it supports a compatible, operating alt:V service, as well as clear terms for cancellation and refunds. No such provider-level confirmation is established here.

Ask the provider to be specific: what exactly is being hosted, what compatible version or successor it supports, and whether customers can actually connect to a working service now. A generic claim that a company sells game-server hosting, or an old page that once listed alt:V, would not answer those questions. Also check the total price and cancellation terms before paying. These are checks a reader should make if credible service evidence appears; no answers for any named provider are verified here.

Do not substitute a generic game-server plan for that missing proof. The question is not merely whether a host has CPU, memory, storage, or a control panel. The prerequisite is that a working alt:V-compatible service exists and that the particular provider supports it. Without that prerequisite, comparing plan features or prices would give a false impression of a useful purchase choice.

If you already have server files or old documentation

Those materials may help explain a previous setup, but they cannot establish that clients can connect or that the former service infrastructure is still operating. Keep legacy specifications separate from present-day requirements, and avoid investing in hardware solely on the basis of those old figures.

The same caution applies to configuration files. A server.toml file can show which values an operator once set, including a port or player limit, but a configuration file is not proof that the service behind it remains available. Possessing old files and having a reachable, working service are different things.

What the old server specifications said

The official specification page published two different kinds of figures: a reported mid-tier server profile and a proposed minimum for a performant server above 100 players. They are historical documentation, not a 2026 hosting recommendation. The page itself cautioned that requirements could change as features and performance changed.

Legacy documentation item Published figure or detail How to interpret it
Average mid-tier server profile Around 8 CPU cores at 3.7 GHz, under 1.25 GB RAM, and approximately 300–600 players at peak hours A profile reported in the old specification page; not a guarantee, benchmark, or current sizing guide.
Reported CPU utilization 6–42%, varying with player count and other factors A historical range from the same documentation, with no current workload or test conditions established here.
Proposed minimum for a performant server above 100 players 3.2 GHz CPU, 4 cores, and 4 GB RAM The page also advised extra memory for databases and other services. It did not establish this as a current requirement.
Disk space Dependent on databases and scripts No universal capacity figure was stated.

These figures should not be used to choose a current plan: the service’s stated shutdown changes the practical question from sizing a live server to verifying whether any compatible service exists at all.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The two rows describing CPU and memory are not interchangeable specifications. One is a reported profile for an average mid-tier server; the other is a proposed minimum for a server intended to perform above 100 players. The mid-tier profile cites 8 cores at 3.7 GHz and less than 1.25 GB of RAM, while the proposed minimum cites a 3.2 GHz CPU, 4 cores, and 4 GB RAM. The source does not give enough test context to turn either into a like-for-like benchmark or to explain the difference as a universal rule.

Likewise, the reported 300–600 peak-hour players belong to the old profile, not to a promise that every server with those CPU and RAM figures could support that many players. The stated 6–42% CPU utilization varies with player count and other factors. The documentation does not specify the workload, scripts, database activity, or test conditions behind that range, so it should not be presented as a performance guarantee or used to predict a new server’s utilization.

Memory requirements also depended on what ran alongside the server. The specification page advised additional memory for databases and other services, and noted that disk needs depended on databases and scripts. It supplied no universal disk-capacity figure. Consequently, even as historical guidance, the published values were not a complete shopping list for every configuration. They are especially unsuitable as current buying advice now that the official site says alt:V has shut down.

The official specification page did not provide a publication year in the reviewed search result and was an older crawl, about 2.3 years old at the time the article was prepared. That is another reason not to label these numbers as 2026 specifications. The only defensible use here is historical context: they show what the old documentation said, with its own caveat that needs could change.

How alt:V servers were configured

The historical configuration reference described a server.toml file with settings for the server name, host, port, concurrent player count, password, masterlist announcement, game mode, resources, modules, and CDN use. These settings explain the former server setup; their presence in documentation does not establish that the service can still be run.

For readers examining an old configuration, these categories help explain the file’s purpose. Operators could set identifying information such as a server name, decide which host and port to use, define a concurrent player count, and set whether the server used a password or was announced on the masterlist. The reference also covered game mode, resources, modules, and CDN use. These are descriptions of documented configuration options—not current instructions guaranteed to work, nor confirmation that a masterlist or other service remains available.

Configuration choices also do not answer the purchasing question by themselves. A host might offer a way to edit a configuration file, but that would not demonstrate that the underlying server software still operates or that clients can connect. In the absence of verified current service, the documentation can be useful for understanding old files but not for selecting a provider.

Legacy network port

The documented default port was 7788. The documentation specified both TCP and UDP when using no CDN, and UDP only when using a CDN. It also stated that the port could be changed in server.toml. Treat these as historical instructions, not proof that opening the port will make a server reachable now.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In practical terms, the old reference distinguished two configurations: without a CDN, it specified TCP and UDP; with a CDN, it specified UDP only. If reading an old guide, do not collapse those into one universal firewall rule. The port could be changed in the configuration file, so 7788 was the documented default rather than an unchangeable value. Even a correctly configured port and firewall would only address the historical network setup; they would not establish that a compatible service, server list, or client connection is currently operating.

Operating system and player slots

The official FAQ said native Linux server builds existed, while the client did not have official Linux support. It also said slots were free and limited by hardware at the time the FAQ was written. These are historical statements; they do not confirm current operating-system support, slot availability, or service operation.

The distinction between server and client support matters when interpreting that FAQ: native Linux server builds did not mean the client had official Linux support. Similarly, a historical statement that player slots were free and limited by hardware is not evidence of a present-day slot policy or of an active service. The FAQ was written for an earlier state of the project; the shutdown notice changes the status question, and the reviewed materials do not establish that the old arrangements continue.

Why a host comparison would be misleading

A useful hosting comparison needs current evidence that each option can actually run the game. It should also establish comparable details such as supported game version, workload performance, network protection, backups and restore, geographic location, control-panel access, support, total cost, and cancellation terms. No verified current alt:V hosting options or comparable provider details are established here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those comparison points are not claims about any host in this article. They describe what a future evidence-based review would need to verify if alt:V or a compatible successor were demonstrably operating. A supported game version and a test workload would make it possible to understand what is actually being offered. Network protections, backup and restore options, location, control-panel access, and support would need provider-specific evidence. Total cost and cancellation terms would need to be clear before readers could judge value or risk.

Without current compatibility evidence, a feature table would compare generic hosting claims rather than useful alt:V choices. A low price would not make a nonworking service a good value; a large resource allocation would not demonstrate client compatibility; and a provider’s general game-hosting capabilities would not prove it supports this particular service. No provider-specific price, performance result, protection, location, backup policy, or support claim is verified here.

Listing providers anyway would turn an unverified possibility into a recommendation. Until a revival or operating successor is confirmed, readers should treat old hosting pages and plan descriptions as unverified for alt:V rather than as evidence of current compatibility.

What would need to change for a 2026 ranking to make sense?

A current ranking would require confirmation that alt:V or a compatible successor is operating, followed by direct checks that multiple providers support it now. Any later comparison would need to name the supported version and test workload, and compare providers on verifiable service details rather than generic game-server features. Without that foundation, a “best host” verdict is not meaningful.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First, the service status would need fresh confirmation. The official website is the primary status source in the reviewed material, but its shutdown status is volatile and the search-result crawl was about three months before the article was prepared. Rechecking the official source immediately before publication would be appropriate. No announcement date or evidence of a revival is provided here, so neither should be invented.

Second, a potential provider would need to confirm directly that it currently operates a compatible service—not merely that it once listed alt:V or can rent general-purpose servers. If a successor rather than alt:V itself were involved, the relationship and compatibility would need to be explained. Third, multiple credible options would need to be confirmed before ranking them against one another. Only then would testing and comparison of supported version, intended workload, network protections, backup and restore, location, panel access, support, total price, and cancellation conditions help answer a real purchasing question.

No current provider details are established here. There is no verified provider comparison, named product, useful affiliate offer, or supported physical purchase recommendation. It therefore does not recommend dedicated server hardware, networking equipment, replacement components, or books and manuals: the shutdown makes generic product advice a poor answer to the immediate question of whether alt:V can be hosted at all.

The source set is intentionally narrow: the official site for status, plus official historical specification, configuration, and FAQ material for technical context. The spec and configuration pages were older crawls, about 2.3 years old at the time the article was prepared; their search results did not provide publication years. The review used one broad search and did not verify provider claims. Resolving whether a provider or community successor still runs compatible instances would require current, provider-level confirmation.

What happened to alt:V?

The official site states, “alt:V has been shut down.” The reviewed source did not establish an announcement date, so one should not be inferred. The site describes alt:V as a free Grand Theft Auto V modification for dedicated servers with custom game modes; that historical description does not establish current availability.

Are there any best alt:V server hosting providers to recommend?

No current provider ranking is supported by the evidence reviewed. No provider-level confirmation of a working compatible service or comparable current plan details was established. A ranking would require confirmation that the service or a compatible successor operates and that multiple providers support it now.

Are the old alt:V server requirements still useful?

Only as historical context. The old documentation reported an average mid-tier profile of around 8 cores at 3.7 GHz, under 1.25 GB RAM, and approximately 300–600 players at peak hours, as well as a proposed minimum for a performant server above 100 players of a 3.2 GHz CPU, 4 cores, and 4 GB RAM. It also reported 6–42% CPU utilization depending on player count and other factors. These are not current requirements or performance guarantees; the documentation warned that requirements could change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What port did alt:V use?

The historical default was 7788, and the port could be changed in server.toml. The old documentation specified TCP and UDP without a CDN, and UDP only when using a CDN. Those details describe the former setup and do not show that opening a port will make a server reachable today.

Did alt:V support Linux?

The historical FAQ said native Linux server builds existed, but the client did not have official Linux support. Those statements do not confirm current operating-system support or service operation.

Were alt:V player slots free?

The official FAQ said slots were free and limited by hardware at the time it was written. That is a historical statement, not confirmation of a current slot policy or of an operating service.

What should I check before paying a host that claims to support alt:V?

Ask for direct, current confirmation that it operates a compatible, usable alt:V service, and clarify what version or successor is supported. Check total price and cancellation or refund terms. If multiple active options are confirmed, compare workload performance, network protections, backups and restore, location, control-panel access, and support; none of those attributes for a provider are verified here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The official alt:V site says the service has shut down, and no provider currently operating a usable alt:V hosting service is verified here. There is not enough evidence to name a best host or recommend a hardware purchase. Treat the published CPU, RAM, player-count, port, Linux, and slot details as historical documentation—not 2026 requirements or proof of availability. Recheck official status and get provider-level confirmation before spending money.
