Mario Kart World is the best all-around alternative to Hot Wheels Infinite Rush on Nintendo Switch 2. It combines approachable arcade handling with connected courses, free roaming, and races for up to 24 people online. It does not replicate Infinite Rush’s toy-car collection or Hot Wheels branding, but it matches the new game’s pick-up-and-play energy and exploration better than any other established option.
Choose Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds if changing environments, vehicle customization, and online competition matter most. Choose Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged if you specifically want more Hot Wheels vehicles and track construction, while accepting that it is an older Nintendo Switch release supported on Switch 2 rather than a Switch 2-native game.

What makes a game “like” Hot Wheels Infinite Rush?
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is not just a conventional lap-based kart racer. Milestone’s 2026 description presents a Hot Wheels-sized world divided into four explorable islands, with races alongside free-roaming activities, secrets, and events. You collect and customize cars, select from four vehicle classes, build tracks that use the environment, and tackle both synchronous and asynchronous challenges. Split-screen supports up to four players, cross-play is advertised, and Milestone says Nintendo Switch 2 races have six competitors.

Nintendo’s product listing also highlights 150-plus vehicles, the four islands, Rush Masters, Track Builder, single-player play, split-screen, and online modes. Those details create several different meanings of “similar”:
#1 Best Overall
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
- Ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and more as you race for the finish line
- Take on the adrenaline-packed Knockout Tour—a fierce 24-driver elimination mode
- Explore courses at your own pace and wander the world to discover fun surprises in Free Roam
- Arcade feel: forgiving controls, dramatic tracks, and immediate action rather than simulation driving.
- Exploration: a world to roam between events instead of only selecting isolated courses.
- Toy-car collection: a large garage with recognizable miniature-vehicle identity.
- Creation tools: building or modifying tracks rather than only racing on developer-made layouts.
- Multiplayer: local split-screen, online races, or both.
- Switch 2 status: a native Switch 2 edition, a dedicated upgrade path, or a backward-compatible Switch game.
No single alternative matches every one of those traits. The recommendations below separate the closest overall fit from the best match for each individual priority.

1. Mario Kart World: the best overall choice
Why it fits
Mario Kart World is the safest recommendation when “like Infinite Rush” means accessible, high-energy racing in a world that encourages detours. Nintendo describes interconnected routes through varied environments and a free-roaming component, so the game is not confined to a menu of unrelated tracks. That structure echoes Infinite Rush’s four-island approach more closely than a strictly traditional kart racer does.
The handling and presentation are built for broad audiences rather than simulation specialists. Characters, items, jumps, and changing scenery make each race readable for newcomers while leaving room for experienced players to optimize lines and item use. The identity is different: you drive character-themed karts rather than collecting miniature Hot Wheels vehicles. If the toy-car garage is the feature you care about most, this is a thematic substitute, not a direct replacement.
Multiplayer scale
Nintendo lists up to 24 racers online, the largest stated online field among the three recommendations. One-system play supports one to four players, making it suitable for a family room or a local party without requiring separate consoles. The 24-racer figure applies to Mario Kart World’s online offering; it should not be used as a claim about Infinite Rush or the other games.
Who should buy it
- Players who want one game that works for beginners and regular competitive sessions.
- Households prioritizing four-player play on one Switch 2.
- Racers who value free roaming and connected routes more than a vehicle-collection simulation.
- Anyone seeking the broadest online field documented by the official product information.
What it does not provide
Mario Kart World does not reproduce Infinite Rush’s 150-plus Hot Wheels garage, four vehicle classes, environment-based Track Builder, or Hot Wheels branding. Its appeal comes from Nintendo characters, item play, and a connected-course format. Treat it as the best overall arcade alternative, not as a sequel or licensed equivalent.
Rank #2
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
2. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: best for changing courses and customization
Travel Rings and course variety
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the strongest pick if your favorite Infinite Rush idea is that every race can feel visually different. Nintendo describes Travel Rings that transport racers to other dimensions, allowing a race to shift environments rather than staying on one continuous circuit. This gives the game a more transformational course structure than a standard set of laps.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe cast and presentation are Sonic-focused rather than toy-focused, but the fast, exaggerated style suits players who enjoy arcade spectacle. Travel Rings also offer a clear reason to replay courses: the route and setting can change between sections, so learning one track does not necessarily exhaust its possibilities.
Vehicles and gadgets
Nintendo lists 45 vehicles and 70 gadgets. Those numbers describe the available vehicle and gadget selections in the cited product information; they are not a direct measurement of Infinite Rush’s 150-plus vehicles. The smaller vehicle count is offset by the gadget system and the dimensional course changes, which put more emphasis on tuning a loadout for a particular race.
Local and online play
Nintendo lists offline and online modes and up to 12 online players. That is a separate game-specific limit from Mario Kart World’s 24-player online figure and from Milestone’s statement that an Infinite Rush race on Switch 2 has six competitors. Compare the numbers only after checking the mode you intend to use: an aggregate online-player listing does not necessarily mean every individual race contains that many drivers.
Switch 2 edition considerations
Nintendo identifies Switch 2 compatibility and a dedicated Switch 2 edition or upgrade path. If you already own a Switch copy, check the current regional store page to determine whether your edition qualifies for an upgrade and whether any content or purchase is required. Do not assume that every physical or digital version receives identical treatment.

Why Hot Wheels fans should start here
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged is the obvious choice when the important word in the title is “Hot Wheels.” Nintendo lists more than 130 vehicles, including Hot Wheels Originals and Monster Trucks. That is a smaller advertised garage than Infinite Rush’s 150-plus vehicles, but it preserves the miniature-car identity, exaggerated stunts, and track-centered racing that define the license.
Rank #3
- [SEAMLESS OPEN WORLD] Experience an interconnected racing environment with zero loading screens between courses. Navigate a massive world featuring 24-hour dynamic day/night cycles and shifting weather patterns that directly impact vehicle traction and handling across mountains and cities.
- [ADVANCED RACING MECHANICS] Master all-new maneuvers including high-speed rail riding, wall jumping, and tactical water skimming. These next-gen traversal abilities allow players to discover hidden shortcuts and alternate routes within a 100% seamless world-map architecture.
- [24-PLAYER ELIMINATION MODE] Compete in the high-stakes Knockout Tour, an adrenaline-packed 24-driver elimination mode where racers are removed checkpoint by checkpoint. Supports up to 24-player online multiplayer with integrated GameChat for real-time social coordination.
- [NEXT-GEN TECHNICAL SPECS] Optimized exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system to deliver stunning 4K Ultra HD resolution in docked mode and a locked 60FPS frame rate. Features enhanced texture mapping and global illumination for the most immersive visual experience in series history.
- [OPEN-WORLD EXPLORATION] Step away from the Grand Prix in the all-new Free Roam mode to wander the world at your own pace. Discover hidden surprises, unlockable vehicle parts, and brand-new drivers across diverse biomes including dense forests and sprawling urban landscapes.
The game also includes vehicle upgrades, track creation, and varied modes. Those systems make it more than a collection of short races: you can improve vehicles, design layouts, and select different event types. For a player who wants a familiar Hot Wheels feel immediately, it is a more direct thematic continuation than either Mario Kart World or Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
Its Switch 2 status matters
Nintendo lists Turbocharged as a Nintendo Switch game and marks it on Switch 2 as “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That wording means compatibility, not a native Switch 2 release. It should not be described as a Switch 2-exclusive or Switch 2-built edition.
The distinction affects expectations. The official information supplied for this comparison does not provide Switch 2-specific frame-rate, resolution, loading, or enhancement measurements. Buy it for the Hot Wheels content and creation tools, not on the assumption that it receives the same technical treatment as a game developed specifically for the new hardware.
Who should choose it
- Collectors who want Hot Wheels Originals and Monster Trucks in the garage.
- Players who prefer discrete, track-focused events to a large explorable island structure.
- Creators who want vehicle upgrades and track-building tools in the same package.
- Switch 2 owners comfortable with a compatible Switch release instead of a native sequel.
Infinite Rush itself: features and availability
World structure and activities
Infinite Rush expands beyond conventional races with four islands designed for roaming. Milestone describes classic races, free-roaming activities, secrets, events, and Rush Masters. The world is therefore a progression space as well as a set of courses. The four vehicle classes give the garage a functional structure, while collection and customization provide reasons to return to earlier areas.
Track Builder uses the environment, allowing players to create layouts that incorporate the world around them. The announcement also mentions synchronous and asynchronous challenges, so competition is not limited to everyone being on the track simultaneously. Cross-play is advertised, although the supplied official details do not specify every platform combination or mode limitation.
Players, release date, and download
The US Nintendo listing gives September 10, 2026 as the release date for the Switch 2 digital edition and lists a 12.7 GB download. It supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Nintendo’s US page lists one to four players on one system and two to 12 online. Separately, Milestone states that a Nintendo Switch 2 race has six competitors. These figures describe different layers of the product information: the storefront’s online-player range and the publisher’s per-race competitor count should not be treated as interchangeable.
Rank #4
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
- Ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and more as you race for the finish line
- Take on the adrenaline-packed Knockout Tour—a fierce 24-driver elimination mode
Nintendo UK also lists September 10, 2026, a 12.7 GB download, PEGI 3, and a requirement for a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for online play. Storefront details can vary by country, so confirm the local listing for price, age rating, edition, storage requirement, and online access before purchasing.
Standard and Deluxe editions
Nintendo lists a Deluxe Edition containing the full game plus the Vehicle Pass. The listing says all Vehicle Pass content will be available by October 2027. The standard product page currently shows the Vehicle Pass and planned downloadable-content entries, but that does not mean the base edition includes every future vehicle or pack. Check the edition-specific page at checkout and treat planned content as future content until it is released.

You want a free-roaming arcade racer
Start with Mario Kart World if you want connected routes and free roaming in a polished, character-driven package. Infinite Rush remains the more explicit Hot Wheels-world interpretation because its four islands, activities, secrets, and Rush Masters are built around toy cars. Mario Kart World is the alternative when you value the format more than the license.
You want the biggest stated online field
Mario Kart World has the highest documented online figure at up to 24 racers. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds lists up to 12 online players. Infinite Rush’s US Nintendo listing displays two to 12 online players, while Milestone specifies six competitors in a Switch 2 race. Check the exact mode and regional page rather than assuming the largest aggregate number equals the number of racers on track.
You want Hot Wheels collecting
Choose Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged for the closest established Hot Wheels identity and a garage of more than 130 vehicles. Choose Infinite Rush if you specifically want the newer four-island exploration structure, four vehicle classes, and 150-plus-vehicle listing.
You want track creation
Infinite Rush and Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 both advertise track-building tools. Infinite Rush’s Track Builder uses the environment in its explorable islands; Turbocharged offers track creation within its own track-focused design. The official details supplied here do not establish that either editor is more powerful, supports more pieces, or performs better on Switch 2.
Best Value
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
You mainly play locally
Infinite Rush supports split-screen for up to four, and Nintendo lists one to four players on one system. Mario Kart World also supports one to four on one system. Those are the clearest four-player local options in the stated specifications. Check controller requirements and the selected mode in the game before arranging a session, because the headline player count does not describe every possible activity.
Online and edition checklist for Switch 2 buyers
- Identify the release type. Infinite Rush is listed in the US as a digital Switch 2 edition. Mario Kart World has an official physical Switch 2 edition. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has a Switch 2 edition or upgrade path. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is a Switch game marked compatible on Switch 2.
- Check your region. Release dates, age ratings, prices, storage figures, and online wording can differ between US and UK storefronts. The 12.7 GB figure and PEGI 3 rating cited above come from Nintendo’s regional listings.
- Verify online membership. Nintendo UK explicitly says a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for Infinite Rush online play. Confirm the equivalent requirement on your local listing for every game.
- Separate total online capacity from race size. Infinite Rush’s two-to-12 online listing, six-competitor Switch 2 race specification, Sonic’s 12-player listing, and Mario Kart World’s 24-racer figure are not interchangeable metrics.
- Check storage before downloading. Reserve at least the listed 12.7 GB for Infinite Rush on the US and UK pages, then allow additional space for system overhead and updates.
- Read the edition contents. Infinite Rush Deluxe includes the Vehicle Pass, while the standard listing should not be assumed to include planned packs. Existing owners of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds should verify upgrade eligibility rather than assuming it is automatic.
What the official specifications do—and do not—tell you
The cited Nintendo and Milestone pages establish advertised modes, player counts, vehicle totals, world structure, editions, and compatibility labels. They do not provide an independent head-to-head test of performance on Switch 2. There is no supplied Switch 2-specific measurement for frame rate, resolution, loading time, input latency, battery drain, or visual upgrades for the compatible Switch release.
That limitation is especially important when comparing Infinite Rush with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2. Compatibility means the older game runs on the newer console under Nintendo’s stated support classification; it does not prove that it receives a native optimization patch. Likewise, a larger vehicle count does not by itself indicate a deeper upgrade system, and a higher online-player number does not guarantee a larger race on every mode.

Buy Mario Kart World for the most complete arcade-racing alternative: connected courses, free roaming, four-player local play, and up to 24 online racers. Pick Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for dimensional course changes, gadgets, and customization. Pick Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged when the Hot Wheels license, more than 130 vehicles, and track creation outweigh the fact that it is a compatible Nintendo Switch game rather than a native Switch 2 release.
If you are deciding whether Infinite Rush itself is the right purchase, its distinctive advantages are the four-island Hot Wheels world, 150-plus-vehicle listing, four classes, environmental Track Builder, and mixed synchronous/asynchronous activities. Confirm your local edition, online requirement, storage, and Vehicle Pass contents before checkout.
