Check the model before buying
ASUS identifies the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X as model RC73XA. Its specifications include a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD, UHS-II microSD reader, USB4, a second USB-C port, and Windows 11 Home. Do not assume a product labeled only “Ally X” fits: that name may refer to the 2024 ROG Ally X. Seek an explicit 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X/RC73XA compatibility statement or reliable confirmation for that exact model.
Which accessories are worth getting?
MicroSD card: the simplest storage expansion
The onboard UHS-II microSD reader makes a card the easiest named way to add removable storage without replacing the internal SSD. Xbox announced SanDisk cards engineered for Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. Xbox’s October 2025 announcement lists vendor claims of up to 140MB/s write and 200MB/s read; these are not independent test results. Capacity and current price are the main trade-offs. Search for a listing that specifies a compatible card and check its current capacity and terms rather than relying on announcement-era pricing. Xbox’s accessory announcement describes the product.

A card is removable storage, not an internal SSD replacement. Do not assume every game can be moved to or run from a card in the same way; check the game and platform’s current storage options before planning a library around it.
Carrying case: prioritize exact fit and what you carry
Xbox announced the ROG Xbox Ally (2-in-1) Premium Carrying Case with a hard shell, fleece lining, water-repellent fabric, reinforced edges, a detachable pouch for a 65W charger, a stand function, and an SD card holder. Those details make it a practical choice if you want one case to cover travel and basic storage. Confirm current availability, price, and RC73XA fit with the seller before ordering; the announcement’s original price is not a current quote.

Xbox also announced the dbrand Killswitch as a Designed for Xbox-certified case for Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, with impact-resistant thermoplastics, a stated 2.5mm profile, kickstand, and Travel Cover. Its launch-era “coming soon” status and listed ERP are historical, not proof of present stock or price. Check the product’s current listing for explicit RC73XA fit. Dock: choose ports for your desk or TV setup
For a portable setup with a display connection and a couple of accessories, Xbox announced the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock, with HDMI output and dual USB-A ports. For a more connected desk, the ROG Bulwark Dock 2025 DG300 adds HDMI 2.1, USB-C, three USB-A ports, Ethernet, an audio jack, and up to 100W USB-C power delivery. Xbox’s announcement gives the Bulwark’s display-mode claims as up to 4K at 144Hz or 8K at 30Hz. These are dock specifications, not a promise that a particular game will run at those resolutions or refresh rates.

Compare a dock by whether you need Ethernet, how many peripherals you connect, portability, and your monitor or TV setup. The Ally X has USB4/DisplayPort and another USB-C/DisplayPort port, according to ASUS’s specifications. Xbox’s original dock pricing and availability labels date from the 2025 announcement; check a current retailer listing before purchase.
Internal SSD: a more involved upgrade
The Ally X ships with a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. Xbox named the Seagate FireCuda 530R in M.2 2280 form and WD_Black SN7100X NVMe SSDs for the Ally line. Xbox relayed manufacturer peak-speed claims of up to 7,400MB/s for the FireCuda 530R and, for the WD_Black SN7100X, up to 7,250MB/s read and up to 6,900MB/s write on the 2TB model. These figures are vendor claims, not independent real-world results.

The ROG Raikiri II Xbox Wireless Controller offers 2.4GHz RF, Bluetooth, and USB-C connectivity, plus programmable rear buttons; Xbox describes it as compatible with PC, Xbox, and Ally. It may suit desk play or multiplayer, but it is not needed for handheld play. Check current device support, availability, and price.
SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds for Xbox are another optional choice for private listening. Xbox describes active noise cancellation, Quick-Switch 2.4GHz and Bluetooth 5.3, and a 40-hour total battery claim. Confirm current compatibility and listing details before buying.
