Here are practical picks, with their execution context and permission limits. CS2’s command inventory can change between builds, so check syntax and behavior in your installed game.
How to open the CS2 console
- In Counter-Strike 2, open Settings.
- Select the Game tab.
- Set Enable Developer Console (~) to Yes.
- Press
~to open it on an English/US keyboard. If that key does not work with your keyboard layout, change the console key binding in the game’s settings.
Steam Support defines the console as “a text-based input/output interface to execute commands or change global settings in a game.” Steam Support’s console instructions cover enabling and opening it.

Useful CS2 console commands by task
In a command reference, a command invokes an action; a convar stores a value. Flags determine who can invoke a command, and a command marked cheat requires sv_cheats 1. That requirement does not mean it will work in official matchmaking: the server controls which commands are allowed. Use the examples below according to their intended context.

For checking performance: cl_showfps
Use this as a starting point if you want an on-screen FPS indicator. Community guides describe multiple display modes, but consult the command’s current in-game help before entering an argument: supported values and presentation may differ by build.
For private practice: impact and grenade commands
sv_showimpacts can help make bullet impact locations visible, while sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview and sv_rethrow_last_grenade are examples for grenade practice. These are not match advantages. Their names and examples do not guarantee availability in every session; server permissions determine whether they can run.

For reusing settings: exec
exec runs a cfg file. A configuration file can group settings for reuse, and an autoexec arrangement is commonly used to reapply settings at startup. The precise file location, startup behavior, and persistence should be checked against your installed game rather than assumed from an older guide.
Which CS2 commands require sv_cheats?
Do not infer permission from a command’s purpose or name. Check the live command help or a current reference for the command’s flags; if it is marked cheat, it requires sv_cheats 1. Even then, that does not grant access on an official matchmaking server, where server policy controls command availability. Treat the impact and grenade examples above as private/practice tools and verify them in the server you control or are authorized to use.

Check syntax and permissions in your build
Command lists are snapshots, not guarantees for every CS2 installation. For scale, CS2OpenDev-Docs identifies its reference as build 25218825, Steam date 2026-09-09, Windows x86-64; its inventory is specific to that build and platform. Before using an example, open the console and consult its help or autocomplete for the installed version, then test it in an appropriate private session. The CS2OpenDev-Docs command reference explains command flags and convars; the Steam Community command guide and PCGamesN CS2 commands guide provide additional examples, but may not reflect the latest build.
