- Look for an XL/XE-compatible version or a documented fix.

Is Atari’s new THE 800XL the same as a vintage 800XL?
No. Atari’s current product page describes THE 800XL as a new recreation, not as a vintage computer. As listed on the official page checked October 9, 2026, it has 64 KB of memory, 25 built-in games, a working cartridge slot, USB loading for cartridge, disk, and cassette images, HDMI, a full-size mechanical keyboard, and an included controller. Atari says the slot supports “most” Atari 400, 800, XL, and XE cartridges; that wording does not mean every cartridge is supported.
The page listed a price of $219.99 and expected preorder shipping in late April 2027 when checked October 9, 2026. Price and delivery estimates can change; consult Atari’s official THE 800XL page for current information.
