Start with Treyarch Mix, Effects at 100, music at 0, Dialogue at 40–50, Mono Audio off, Reduce Tinnitus Sound on, and Master Game Volume around 75–85. Treat this as a baseline—not a guaranteed best preset. Your headset, platform processing, and preferred listening level all affect the result, so compare options at the same comfortable loudness.
Recommended Warzone audio settings
Setup.gg’s guide, updated September 6, 2026, recommends these starting values. They are editorial guidance, not the result of a controlled test across platforms and headsets.

Asymmetrical Hearing Compensation is an accessibility control, not a general footstep-boost setting. Leave it off unless you need it to compensate for differences between your ears. If you hear with one ear or use a one-sided setup, Mono Audio may be more appropriate than stereo.
Which audio mix should you use?
Guides do not agree on one mix that works best for everyone. Compression can make quieter sounds more noticeable relative to loud ones, but it can also make a match sound crowded, flatten distance, or make effects tiring. Compare the options at matched loudness in the same location; a louder preset can seem clearer even when it has not improved directional information.

Listen for whether you can distinguish direction and separation—not simply whether footsteps sound louder. If a mix sounds hollow, sharp, or fatiguing, switch back.
Adjust settings for your platform
PC
- In Warzone, select the output device you actually use. Recheck it after changing USB or Bluetooth devices.
- If your Windows audio driver offers Loudness Equalization, compare it on and off. Setup.gg warns that it can flatten distance, so keep it only if the trade-off works for you.
- Avoid stacking multiple spatial or surround-processing layers. Start with one processing path so you can tell what each change does.
- SteelSeries Sonar is optional. Its support guide explains how to route Warzone game, chat, and microphone devices separately and optionally select the COD Warzone preset: SteelSeries Sonar setup for Warzone.
PS5
Turtle Beach and Dexerto describe Audio Focus in the PS5 sound controls and suggest comparing Boost High Pitch for footsteps. Setup.gg recommends Weak or Medium strength if available, noting that stronger processing can sound sharp. Try the setting with the headset you actually use and judge it at a comfortable, matched volume.

Xbox
Setup.gg recommends starting with Stereo Uncompressed for a clean comparison. Test headset EQ or Dolby Atmos separately rather than changing the console format, headset EQ, and in-game mix all at once. The guide does not identify a direct Xbox equivalent to PS5 Audio Focus.
Troubleshoot footsteps that are still hard to hear
- Confirm the output device. Verify that Warzone is sending audio to your headset or other intended device, particularly after reconnecting or switching devices.
- Check voice chat. Lower chat volume if teammates are masking game audio.
- Reset EQ before fine-tuning. Return your headset EQ to flat, then make small changes so you can identify their effect.
- Remove duplicate processing. Turn off extra spatial or surround layers while comparing a single mix or platform feature.
- Test in a repeatable setting. Change one setting at a time and listen for direction and separation at matched loudness.
Gunfire, vehicles, and killstreaks can cover footsteps during a match. EQ cannot recover a cue that was not rendered clearly, and turning the whole game up is not a safe fix. Set volume with your headset or system controls at a level that remains comfortable.

Do you need a headset or extra software?
A compatible stereo gaming headset can be a useful option if you currently play through TV or monitor speakers, but the cited guidance does not establish that a particular model is best or that every player needs to buy one. If you are choosing a headset, prioritize compatibility with your platform, comfort, connection type, clear stereo output, and adjustable EQ if you expect to tune its sound. On PC, Sonar is an optional routing tool rather than a requirement for the settings above.

Warzone menus and recommendations can change between seasons. Activision’s official Call of Duty patch notes index lists Warzone Season 06 notes and earlier dated updates. Check the current in-game menu after an update rather than assuming every setting name or location remains unchanged. The available guidance does not establish a universal preset or a measured improvement in detection distance across platforms and headsets.
