There is no single best graphics preset for every PC in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Start with the game’s startup benchmark, then adjust a few settings at a time around your display resolution and target frame rate. Prioritize a stable image over a preset label: the right balance depends on your GPU, available VRAM, game version, and whether you use an upscaler or frame generation.
Start with the game’s benchmark, not a universal preset
The game runs a startup benchmark and selects optimized settings as a starting point, according to the Steam Community optimization guide. Use that selection as a baseline rather than a guarantee of ideal performance. The guide’s disclosed test used native 1440p on an RTX 4070 FE and Ryzen 9 7900 with other settings at High; its results do not establish what another GPU will achieve.
- Run the startup benchmark or begin with its recommended settings.
- Before changing anything, note your display resolution, GPU, upscaler and quality mode, and target frame rate.
- Play a representative section and look for recurring dips, stutter, or visual problems—not just a single peak-FPS reading.
- Change one demanding setting at a time, then revisit the same type of scene to judge the trade-off.
Steam’s published hardware targets provide context, not a promise for every scene or PC: minimum-tier hardware targets 1080p at 30 FPS on Low, while recommended-tier hardware targets 1080p at 60 FPS on High. The minimum listing names a GTX 1060 6 GB, Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A380 6 GB; the recommended listing names an RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB. Both tiers specify an SSD and 55 GB of storage; listed system memory is 8 GB minimum and 16 GB recommended. See Steam’s system requirements for the published figures.
What to change first when performance is short
Try output resolution and upscaling first
If the game cannot hold your target, reduce render resolution or use a supported upscaler before lowering every visual option. Upscaling can reduce the rendering workload while retaining a higher output resolution, but the available technologies, quality modes, and results depend on your GPU and installed game version. The sources do not establish a cross-GPU comparison that would make one upscaler or mode universally best.
#1 Best Overall
- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
Compare image quality at your normal viewing distance. Watch for softness, shimmering, or other temporal artifacts, and choose the highest-quality mode that still helps you meet your stability goal. If the image becomes distracting, try another supported mode or return to native rendering and tune an individual graphics setting instead.
Use frame generation with the right expectation
Version 1.4.0 added DLSS and XeSS frame generation and low-latency support for compatible GPUs, according to the 30 July 2025 patch notes. A later community guide reports native FSR 4 support in version 1.5.0, including AMD temporal upscaling, frame generation on compatible AMD GPUs, and AMD Anti-Lag 2. Because feature support can change, check the options actually shown in your installed version.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Frame generation can increase displayed smoothness, but a generated-frame rate is not the same thing as the game rendering every frame at that rate or delivering equivalent input response. Use the low-latency option when it is available for your compatible GPU, and judge responsiveness as well as the displayed frame rate.
Balance global illumination, reflections, and textures
Global illumination
The community guide describes global illumination (GI) as both demanding and visually influential. It warns that very low GI can cause flicker in distant areas. If performance is limited, test a modest reduction and inspect distant scenery in motion; do not assume the lowest setting is the best compromise.
Rank #3
- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
Reflections
The same guide describes Medium reflections as a balance between appearance and performance. Treat that as the guide author’s recommendation, not a measured guarantee for every GPU or scene. Compare reflective surfaces in areas you actually play, and lower the setting further only if the performance trade-off is worthwhile to you.
Textures and VRAM
Choose texture quality with your graphics card’s VRAM in mind. The guide cautions that higher texture settings on mid-range cards with less than 8 GB of VRAM may contribute to missing or slowly loading textures and swapping. If textures fail to appear promptly or the game starts swapping, reduce texture quality and check whether those problems clear during ordinary play.

Account for later updates and handheld PCs
A 12 December 2025 “Thank You” update announcement reported further performance improvements across platforms, including handheld PCs, but did not quantify gains per device or give handheld-specific settings. Treat any old preset advice as a starting point: updates can alter performance and available options, so verify your current build’s menu and benchmark on the hardware you use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical tuning order
- Set your display’s intended output resolution and choose a realistic target for stable frame delivery.
- Run the benchmark and record the chosen settings. If the result is short of your target, test a supported upscaler or a lower render resolution.
- Test frame generation only if your hardware and game version expose it; assess responsiveness alongside smoothness.
- If more headroom is needed, adjust GI, then reflections, one at a time, checking the image in motion.
- Set textures according to VRAM and watch for missing or late-loading assets.
- Repeat the same kind of gameplay check after each change. Keep the settings that improve stability without making the image or controls feel worse.
Steam lists the RTX 3060 Ti as one recommended-tier GPU, but that listing is a published 1080p/60-FPS High target—not a requirement to buy that card or a guarantee for every system. Try resolution, upscaling, and individual settings before treating a hardware upgrade as necessary.
