For a new Global player, the strongest dated starting points in the available rankings are [Savor the Melt] Satoru Gojo, [Heaven-Piercing Strike] Yuji Itadori, [The Golden Age of Cursed Techniques] Noritoshi Kamo, [Executioner] Yuta Okkotsu, and [Nexus Guardian] Masamichi Yaga. Pocket Gamer places these exact variants in S tier in its list updated September 2, 2026, for version 3.6.2. Treat that as a snapshot, not an official ranking or a guarantee that every card is available on your Global account.
Which characters should beginners prioritize?
Start with the exact card variants already in your roster. Pocket Gamer’s September 2, 2026 tier list for version 3.6.2 places the following five variants in S tier:
- [Savor the Melt] Satoru Gojo
- [Heaven-Piercing Strike] Yuji Itadori
- [The Golden Age of Cursed Techniques] Noritoshi Kamo
- [Executioner] Yuta Okkotsu
- [Nexus Guardian] Masamichi Yaga
This is a useful shortlist, not an official game ranking. A character name alone is not enough: different versions of the same character can land in different tiers, so advice about one Gojo or Yuji card does not automatically apply to another. See Pocket Gamer’s tier list for its dated ranking.
How to choose what to invest in first
Check the full variant name and your server
Confirm the card’s complete name, then check whether it is actually available on your server. Gacha Go’s September 2026 ranking follows the Japanese version, which is roughly a year ahead of Global, and ranks cards for manual play. Some entries may not yet have reached Global. Its tiers should not be treated as a Global reroll or saving guide. Gacha Go’s card ranking explains its scope.

Build around the roster you have
Prioritize a strong, useful card already on your account over a hypothetical high-ranked card you cannot use. Look at what the rest of your team lacks: damage, support, or survival. A highly placed damage dealer may be less useful to your immediate progress than a support or tank that makes your current team function.
Cover roles before chasing a single “best” character
Mobi.gg’s July 28, 2026 guide offers role context: it lists Satoru Gojo (The Strongest Blue) as damage, Momo Nishimiya (Don’t Underestimate Me) as support, and Saki Rindo (Heart’s Resolve) as a tank. Those examples help illustrate team coverage, but the guide predates the September lists and is not a direct current-patch ranking. Compare each exact variant with your stage and roster rather than assuming one universally best beginner pick. Mobi.gg’s tier and role guide is the source for these role labels.

How to spend early upgrade resources
Raise a compact core of characters that can carry your progression rather than spreading routine resources across the whole roster. A community-maintained beginner guide describes these upgrade paths:
- Character levels: use EXP materials and JP.
- Grade progression: use cursed objects and JP.
- Skill levels: use Cursed Crystals.
- Limit breaks: use duplicates or universal stones.
The guide is marked work in progress, so check the live game’s menus for current resource names and mechanics. Its details are community guidance, not an official upgrade recommendation. Save scarce duplicate-based materials for cards you expect to keep using instead of spending them automatically on a temporary option. Read the community-maintained Beginner’s Guide.

Why tier lists can disagree
Rankings may reflect different dates, servers, modes, and evaluation criteria. Pocket Gamer provides a Global-facing snapshot with a version number; Gacha Go’s September list covers Japan and manual play; Mobi.gg’s July guide is older and useful here mainly for role context. Their tiers do not combine into a single consensus. No official character tier ranking or named study of beginner outcomes or upgrade returns is established by these sources.
For a real choice between two cards, compare their exact variants, damage contribution, support or survival role, availability on your server, and usefulness for the stage you are trying to clear. The evidence does not support a universal reroll target or a claim that a paid pull is necessary.

What the official game information does—and does not—tell you
The official site describes Phantom Parade as a free-to-play RPG with in-app purchases and invites players to form a team to fight curses. It does not provide a character tier list or establish which card a beginner should upgrade first. The official timeline records the Global edition launch in November 2024 and Global PC release in August 2025; those dates establish release context, not character performance.
