Start with each actor’s stated preferences, then check compatibility, costume and scene rules as they appear. When an arrangement is wrong, use the game’s feedback to adjust it rather than treating a failed placement as the end of the puzzle.
How to read the actors’ demands
The core task is to match fictional cast members with roles they will accept. Triomatica Games describes the cast this way: “Every actor has their own wishes, ambitions, fears, and favorite roles.” Read each character’s conditions as puzzle rules, not as interchangeable hints: one may want a particular part, while another may reject a category of role.
Begin with direct role preferences
On simpler puzzles, a preference can point straight to a suitable part. For example, an actor who wants to play a princess and one who wants a non-royal character have contrasting requirements. Make the obvious matches first, but leave room to revise them if another actor’s rule makes the arrangement impossible.
Separate preference from restriction
A preferred role tells you what an actor wants; an explicit refusal or condition narrows what they can accept. Keep both in view. A placement that seems ideal for one performer can create a conflict elsewhere, so judge the complete cast rather than optimizing one role in isolation.

Use the mask feedback to iterate
Pocket Gamer reviewer Stephen Gregson-Wood reports that a correct placement produces a green comedy mask, while an incorrect one produces a red tragedy mask. He also writes, “There’s no fail state here,” describing the puzzle flow he observed. Treat the mask as information about the current arrangement: if it shows the red tragedy mask, change an assignment and check again. The review describes rearranging placements until the cast is satisfied.
Track added constraints as puzzles grow
Later challenges can combine several kinds of rule. The review describes actors who will not perform together and requirements for costume styles; it also notes levels involving story or scene changes and a format with limited costumes. These mechanics mean a role match may not be enough by itself.
Rank #2
- Role preference: note which part an actor wants or will reject.
- Compatibility: watch for actors who refuse to work together.
- Costume: check any required style and, where costumes are limited, whether the available selection can satisfy the cast.
- Scene or story: when a level changes who appears or which role someone plays, reassess the arrangement around that change.
This is a practical way to organize the clues, not an official solve order. Because demands can clash, test the whole arrangement after each meaningful change; a single adjustment can affect the rest of the performance. The official game description captures that dependency: “A single change can transform the entire performance.”

As of October 4, 2026, Triomatica Games’ official Steam listing describes I Want to Play the Villain! as a single-player logic puzzle and lists Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux. The full game is planned for Q1 2027, a schedule that may change. The publisher’s Steam demo listing says the free demo released on August 17, 2026.

Pocket Gamer’s page header lists iOS and Android, but its accessible article text gives an October 4 date without a year. That is not enough to establish current mobile availability or reconcile it with the Steam listing’s planned full-game release.
