The best starting profile for BlueStacks 5 on a low-end PC is 1280×720 resolution, 160 DPI, 30 or 60 FPS, 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, ASTC disabled, and VSync off. Use Low memory mode on PCs with 8 GB RAM or less. Enable CPU virtualization before changing anything else; without it, BlueStacks may be limited to one CPU core and can stutter badly.
These settings are a baseline, not a guaranteed FPS figure. Your game, processor, graphics hardware, available RAM, thermals and Android instance all affect the result.

Recommended BlueStacks settings for a low-end PC
Apply this profile to one Android instance first:
| BlueStacks option | Recommended starting value |
|---|---|
| Performance mode | Low memory for 8 GB RAM or less; Balanced for 8–16 GB while multitasking |
| CPU allocation | 2 cores for light games; increase only when the game remains CPU-limited |
| Memory allocation | 2 GB for light games; 4 GB for demanding games when enough RAM is available |
| Frame rate | Start at 30 or 60 FPS, choosing the highest rate the PC can sustain consistently |
| Enable high frame rate | Off unless the game and PC can maintain more than 60 FPS |
| VSync | Off for competitive play and troubleshooting; enable it only to reduce visible tearing |
| Resolution | 1280×720 or another lower resolution |
| Pixel density | 160 DPI (Low) |
| Graphics renderer | Vulkan & OpenGL (Recommended) on Android Pie, Android 11 and Android 13 |
| Nougat renderer | Test OpenGL and DirectX |
| Nougat graphics engine | Performance, unless the game requires Compatibility mode |
| ASTC textures | Disabled unless the game requires ASTC |
| GPU | Use the dedicated GPU only when the computer has one |
BlueStacks’ own examples use 2 cores and 2 GB for less-demanding apps, and 4 cores and 4 GB for demanding games such as Free Fire. Do not automatically copy the larger allocation: giving the emulator too many resources can leave Windows without enough CPU time or memory. See BlueStacks’ CPU and RAM allocation guidance.
1. Enable virtualization first
CPU virtualization is usually the most important performance fix. It allows BlueStacks to use more than one CPU core and can substantially reduce FPS lag and stutter.

- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Windows Task Manager.
- Open Performance, select CPU, and check Virtualization.
- If it says Disabled, restart into UEFI/BIOS and enable the relevant option.
On Intel systems the setting is commonly called Intel Virtualization Technology. On AMD systems it is commonly called SVM Mode.
On Windows 11, the documented route to UEFI is Start → Windows Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Recovery → Restart now beside Advanced startup, then Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware settings → Restart now. BIOS menus differ by manufacturer, so the exact label and location may vary. BlueStacks documents the process in its Windows 11 virtualization guide.
Without virtualization, Nougat 32-bit may still run, but performance can be poor. Nougat 64-bit and Pie 64-bit require virtualization.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 112. Set performance mode, CPU, RAM and FPS
- Launch BlueStacks 5.
- Click the gear icon on the Side toolbar.
- Open Performance.
- Choose the performance mode, CPU allocation, memory allocation and frame-rate limit.
- Set Enable high frame rate, Enable VSync (to prevent screen tearing) and Display FPS during gameplay as needed.
- Click Save changes, then choose Restart now if prompted.
Which performance mode should you use?
- Low memory: minimizes RAM usage. Use it on systems with 8 GB RAM or less, for multiple instances, or whenever Windows is running out of memory.
- Balanced: a sensible choice for 8–16 GB systems when browsers and other programs remain open.
- High performance: prioritizes emulator performance and uses more RAM. It is appropriate for a single demanding game when the PC has sufficient free memory.
Low memory is not automatically the fastest setting in every situation. BlueStacks recommends High performance for a single demanding game when enough RAM is available, while its general guidance favors Low memory on smaller systems and for multiple instances. Choose based on both total RAM and what else is running.
How much CPU and RAM should BlueStacks get?
Start with 2 cores and 2 GB for light games. Try 4 cores and 4 GB for a demanding game only if the PC has enough headroom. On an 8 GB computer, 4 GB is reasonable when other applications are closed. On a 16 GB computer, 4 GB is usually a safer starting point than assigning 8–12 GB without evidence that the game needs it.
Never assign every CPU core to BlueStacks. Windows, drivers and background services still need processor time. On a 4 GB computer, assigning 4 GB to the emulator can force Windows to page data to disk and create severe stutter. BlueStacks supports allocations up to 12 GB on supported instances, but that is not a low-end-PC recommendation.

3. Lower resolution and pixel density
- Open Settings → Display.
- Set the resolution to 1280×720 or lower.
- Set Pixel density to 160 DPI (Low).
- Save the changes and restart if BlueStacks requests it.
Lower resolution reduces the number of pixels the GPU must render. This is particularly useful when GPU usage is high or FPS falls during visual effects. BlueStacks also offers 240 DPI (Medium), 320 DPI (High), and custom values from 10 to 999, but higher density is unnecessary for a performance-first profile. Avoid 1080p and especially 4K on a low-end system unless performance is already stable.
4. Choose the correct graphics renderer
Android Pie, Android 11 and Android 13
Open Settings → Graphics and select Vulkan & OpenGL (Recommended). If a game shows graphical corruption, a black screen or fails to launch, test OpenGL Only, then select Save changes → Restart now.
On current BlueStacks versions, these Android versions offer only Vulkan & OpenGL (Recommended) and OpenGL Only. BlueStacks 5.22.70 and later removed the former separate DirectX choice for these instances, so guides telling you to select DirectX for Android 11 or Android 13 are outdated. The current release context is BlueStacks 5.22; the latest release listed in the supplied documentation is 5.22.250, dated July 17, 2026.
Nougat 32-bit and Nougat 64-bit
Nougat instances still provide OpenGL and DirectX, along with Graphics engine mode options for Performance and Compatibility.
Use Performance first. Test the other renderer if the game has problems. Use Compatibility only when the game requires its more advanced graphics architecture or specifically asks you to switch. There is no universal renderer that delivers the best FPS in every game.
Interface renderer
The interface renderer controls BlueStacks’ user interface; it is not a universal FPS boost switch. Find it at Settings → Graphics → Interface renderer. Leave it on Auto unless you see distorted graphics, black screens, fullscreen flickering, invisible controls or a problem clearly associated with the interface.

5. Configure ASTC textures carefully
Go to Settings → Graphics → ASTC textures. For the lowest graphics workload, start with Disabled if the game displays correctly.
- Disabled: turns ASTC textures off.
- Software decoding: uses the CPU to decompress ASTC textures.
- Hardware decoding: uses the GPU when supported and can help performance on compatible hardware.
ASTC is not a guaranteed FPS booster. If the game requires ASTC, use Software decoding on a system with a weak or unsupported GPU. Use Hardware decoding only when BlueStacks confirms that the GPU supports it. BlueStacks notes that NVIDIA GPUs using driver version 545.84 or later no longer support hardware ASTC decoding and recommends Software decoding for those systems. Details are in the ASTC control documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors6. Set FPS, high frame rate and VSync
Use a stable frame rate, not the largest number
In Settings → Performance → Frame rate, begin at 30 or 60 FPS. A stable 30 FPS is better than a fluctuating 60 FPS that repeatedly drops and causes uneven frame pacing. Raise the limit only after monitoring the game for sustained performance.
The FPS slider sets a maximum; it cannot make a weak CPU or GPU render faster. The game’s own FPS cap, graphics settings, thermals and emulator overhead remain limiting factors.
Keep high frame rate off initially
Enable high frame rate allows rates above 60 FPS in games that support them. On a low-end PC, leave it off unless the computer can sustain the higher rate without overheating or stuttering. A higher ceiling increases workload; it does not fix ordinary lag.

When should VSync be enabled?
Leave Enable VSync (to prevent screen tearing) off while troubleshooting and for competitive games, where its added input latency may be noticeable. Enable it when tearing is visible and the system can already render above the monitor’s refresh rate.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
BlueStacks states that VSync limits BlueStacks to 60 FPS and disables the high-frame-rate option if it was enabled. NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Software settings can also override or conflict with the emulator’s VSync setting. See the BlueStacks VSync documentation.
Use the FPS counter only while testing
Enable Display FPS during gameplay while comparing settings, then turn it off. BlueStacks warns that the overlay consumes some resources and can contribute to stutter on a constrained system.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. Make sure BlueStacks uses the right GPU
On a laptop or desktop with integrated and discrete graphics:
- Open Settings → Graphics.
- Find GPU in use.
- Enable the option to use the dedicated GPU, if available.
- Save the change and restart if prompted.
This setting helps only when the system actually has more than one GPU. If the computer has a single GPU, Power saving and High performance may show the same device, and selecting High performance cannot create extra graphics hardware.

8. Reduce Windows-side causes of lag
BlueStacks lists current graphics drivers, adequate free RAM, fewer background applications and fewer startup programs as important factors. Its recommended configuration includes Windows 10 or later, at least 8 GB RAM, an SSD, enabled virtualization and updated graphics drivers. Minimum requirements include at least 4 GB RAM, 5 GB free disk space, administrator access and current graphics drivers. See the BlueStacks system requirements.
- Close browsers with many tabs, launchers, recording tools and unnecessary overlays before playing.
- Update the graphics driver from the computer or GPU manufacturer.
- Keep adequate free space on the drive containing BlueStacks.
- Prefer an SSD when possible; it improves loading and paging behavior, though it does not replace a weak GPU.
- Play while plugged in on a laptop and use the manufacturer’s performance mode when available.
- Watch temperatures: sustained thermal throttling can make FPS fall after several minutes even when the initial result looks good.
Use Settings → User data → Disk cleanup to remove leftover files from uninstalled apps across BlueStacks instances. This recovers storage space; it is not a guaranteed FPS booster.
9. Troubleshoot by symptom
FPS is low everywhere
- Confirm virtualization is enabled in Task Manager.
- Lower resolution to 1280×720 and DPI to 160.
- Set the frame-rate cap to 30 or 60 rather than enabling high frame rate.
- Close background programs and check CPU, memory and GPU usage in Task Manager.
- Update the graphics driver and confirm BlueStacks is using the intended GPU.
- Test the other supported graphics renderer for the Android instance.
FPS starts well, then drops
Check CPU and GPU temperatures, laptop power mode and available RAM. Excessive RAM allocation can cause Windows paging, while high temperatures can cause throttling. Try Low memory or Balanced mode, reduce the resolution, close background applications and use a stable 30 FPS cap.

The game has a black screen, flickering or corrupted graphics
For Android Pie, Android 11 or Android 13, switch between Vulkan & OpenGL (Recommended) and OpenGL Only. For Nougat, test OpenGL versus DirectX and keep Graphics engine mode on Performance unless Compatibility is required. If the problem appears only in fullscreen, test the Interface renderer.
The emulator feels delayed or controls respond slowly
Keep VSync off, disable high frame rate and use a stable FPS cap. Check whether the game itself has a frame-rate or graphics option that is causing inconsistent frame pacing. Also test whether a GPU-driver VSync setting is overriding BlueStacks.
Only one game is slow or freezes after an update
The problem may be corrupted app data rather than a global BlueStacks setting. In BlueStacks, open System apps → Settings → Apps → select the app → Storage → Clear data → OK.
Clearing data also clears the cache and may remove local saves, sign you out or force the game to redownload resources. Confirm that progress is synchronized to an account or cloud service before using this option.
Important settings myths to avoid
- “Always use DirectX.” Not on current Android Pie, Android 11 or Android 13 instances, where the choices are Vulkan & OpenGL and OpenGL Only. DirectX remains available for Nougat.
- “Disable Hyper-V on every PC.” BlueStacks 5.20 and later supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 with Hyper-V enabled or disabled. Do not disable Windows virtualization features if other software depends on them.
- “Give BlueStacks every CPU core and all available RAM.” This can starve Windows and cause paging or stutter.
- “Low memory is always fastest.” It reduces RAM use, but High performance may be better for one demanding game when plenty of RAM is available.
- “High FPS fixes lag.” It raises the ceiling and increases workload; it cannot overcome insufficient hardware.
- “VSync always improves performance.” It reduces tearing but can add input latency, disables high frame rate and limits BlueStacks to 60 FPS according to BlueStacks’ documentation.
- “Hardware ASTC is always fastest.” Support depends on the GPU and driver. NVIDIA driver 545.84 and later require Software decoding according to BlueStacks.
- “The FPS counter is free.” BlueStacks warns that displaying it consumes some resources.
A practical order for testing
Change one group of settings at a time so you can identify what helped:
Quick Recap
- Enable virtualization and restart BlueStacks.
- Set 1280×720, 160 DPI, 2 cores and 2 GB RAM.
- Choose Low memory on an 8 GB-or-less PC, or Balanced when multitasking on a larger system.
- Use the current renderer recommended for the Android instance.
- Disable ASTC, high frame rate and VSync.
- Set a 30 FPS cap first, then test 60 FPS if frame pacing is stable.
- Use the FPS display briefly while comparing results, then disable it.
- If the game remains GPU-limited, lower resolution or select the dedicated GPU.
- If only one game misbehaves, troubleshoot its renderer or app data rather than continually increasing global CPU and RAM allocations.
