There is no single officially confirmed best castle location in V Rising. The strongest choice changes with your progression, server rules and priorities. Most community guides converge on the western plateau of Farbane Woods for an early castle, Dunley Farmlands for the most reliable mid-game base, and Silverlight Hills when you need silver and late-game expansion. For PvP defense, the western cliffs of Hallowed Mountains and the northwest plateau of Dunley Farmlands are the leading candidates.
Use those recommendations as starting areas rather than permanent coordinates. Exact plots, entrances, buildable space and travel routes can vary with map generation, server activity and patches. Scout the actual ground before placing your Castle Heart.

How to choose a castle site before you build
A good base is a logistics decision first and an architectural decision second. A beautiful overlook that leaves you running long routes for every resource will cost more time than it saves. Conversely, a defensible plateau with no room for production or servants can become a frustrating temporary shelter.

1. Decide whether the castle is temporary or permanent
Early in a server, optimize for access to nearby enemies, trees and basic materials so you can level gear quickly. If you expect to relocate, choose a plot that is easy to abandon and avoid spending all your high-value construction resources on decorative rooms.
A permanent base should have enough contiguous buildable ground for production rooms, storage, crafting stations, servant facilities and defensive layers. The Castle Heart should not consume the only central building area; leave space around it for expansion.

2. Score the five practical factors
- Resource proximity: Check the actual travel time to the materials you use most. Iron makes Dunley especially attractive in the mid game, while silver is the defining late-game reason to consider Silverlight Hills.
- Enemy and gear progression: Being near enemies and activity can speed leveling, but a busy route can also increase PvP contact.
- Approach routes: Count every path an attacker or patrol can use. A single entrance is valuable only if you can monitor and defend it.
- Expansion room: Walk the perimeter and look for cliffs, water, impassable terrain and neighboring plots that could block future floors or production wings.
- Travel network: Consider how often you will return to Farbane Woods, Dunley Farmlands, Silverlight Hills and other objectives. A central position can outperform a resource-rich but isolated one.
3. Scout at the time your server is most active
On PvP servers, an apparently empty plateau may be surrounded by active clans during peak hours. Visit the area more than once, observe neighboring castles and identify likely siege approaches. On PvE servers, traffic is less dangerous, but contested building space and inconvenient routes still matter.
Best early-game location: western plateau in Farbane Woods
The western plateau of Farbane Woods is the standard early-game recommendation. Its position keeps a new vampire close to the activities that establish a character: basic resources, trees and enemies needed for early gear progression. One community guide describes the plateau as having only one way in or out, a useful property when you have limited walls, servants and defensive options.
Why it works early
- Farbane is where a new character spends much of the opening progression, so routine trips are short.
- Nearby trees and enemies support rapid gathering and gear advancement, matching the priorities cited by community guides for an early base.
- A constrained approach can make a small starter castle easier to protect than a wide-open forest plot.
What to check before placing the heart
- Walk the entire plateau and confirm the supposed single entrance is actually the only practical route; terrain and access can differ between plots.
- Mark where your first production rooms, storage and sleeping area will go. Do not place the heart on the only flat center if it prevents a future expansion.
- Check nearby resource loops rather than a single tree or ore node. Your route should remain useful after the closest materials are depleted.
- On PvP, watch for neighboring plots and sightlines. A one-way approach helps only when you can close and monitor it.
Treat Farbane as a foundation, not a promise that you will never move. Once iron, silver or higher-tier objectives dominate your schedule, the travel savings from a new regional castle can outweigh the work of relocating.
Best mid-game location: Dunley Farmlands
Dunley Farmlands is the most consistent all-purpose recommendation in the available community guidance. It balances travel, resources and expansion better than the more extreme choices. The region is also near the Haunted Iron Mine, making it a practical base for iron farming once your progression reaches that requirement.
Why Dunley is the default choice
- Balanced travel: Dunley sits between early Farbane activities and later objectives, reducing the number of exceptionally long return trips.
- Iron access: The Haunted Iron Mine is the specific resource landmark repeatedly associated with Dunley’s mid-game value.
- Buildable space: Guides describe room for expansion, which matters when a starter castle’s compact layout begins to constrain production.
- Flexible server role: The region can support PvE progression or a PvP clan that wants access to several routes and targets.
Two Dunley approaches
For a neutral, progression-oriented base, inspect broad plots with room for several connected floors and a short route toward the Haunted Iron Mine. For PvP, a guide specifically recommends the northwest plateau for aggressive play. That position may put you closer to contested movement, so evaluate both offensive access and the number of directions from which opponents can approach.

Another guide suggests Dunley’s northeastern area near the Bastion of Dunley and the Church of the Damned for PvE. This is a situational recommendation rather than a universal rule: compare the exact plot’s resource loops, buildable footprint and travel time with other Dunley options before committing.
Best late-game location: Silverlight Hills
Silverlight Hills becomes attractive when silver is a major part of your economy. Community guides describe it as suitable for builds that need silver at scale, and its natural elevation can help with defense. The trade-off is distance: a Silverlight castle may make routine trips to Farbane Woods or Dunley Farmlands substantially less convenient.
When moving to Silverlight makes sense
- Your crafting and progression loop consumes enough silver that repeated transport from another region is slowing you down.
- You have enough infrastructure to rebuild without crippling your production schedule.
- The selected plot has a broad, continuous footprint rather than a scenic but fragmented ledge.
- You have checked local approaches and can use the elevation without trapping your own access routes.
Do not relocate solely because Silverlight is labeled “late game.” If your group still spends most of its time in Dunley, the central convenience of a well-planned Dunley castle can be worth more than proximity to a resource you use occasionally.
Most defensible sites for PvP
Natural terrain reduces the number of directions you must defend, but it never replaces walls, doors, surveillance and an active clan. The two repeatedly highlighted defensive choices are distinct in purpose.
Western cliffs of Hallowed Mountains
The western cliffs of Hallowed Mountains are described as among the most defensible locations because they have one real entry path and difficult, remote terrain. Another guide characterizes Hallowed Mountains as a relatively quiet PvP area with minimal traffic. That isolation is both an advantage and a cost: you may avoid encounters, but you also give up convenient access to resources and targets.
Choose this area when survival and isolation matter more than farming efficiency. Before building, verify that the approach really can be sealed, that your servants and production rooms fit on the usable ground, and that you have a reliable plan for bringing resources back from less remote regions.
Northwest plateau of Dunley Farmlands
The northwest Dunley plateau is the more aggressive PvP option in community recommendations. It offers a strategic position in a region with better general logistics than Hallowed Mountains. The same exposure that helps you reach contested routes can also reveal your castle to more opponents, so inspect neighboring activity and prepare for attacks from more than one direction.

Defense features worth prioritizing
- A narrow, observable approach that does not leave an unguarded rear route.
- Enough depth behind the outer wall for a second defensive layer and fallback rooms.
- High ground, cliffs or water barriers that reduce practical approach angles.
- Interior space for a protected heart room rather than a heart placed against an outside wall.
- Construction room for future defenses; a plot that is secure only at starter scale may fail after expansion.
PvE locations and resource-first placement
PvE castles do not need to solve siege access, so the strongest criterion is usually time saved. Community guidance favors positions near resources, trees and enemies so you can level gear and replenish materials without long trips. Dunley’s northeastern area near the Bastion of Dunley and Church of the Damned is one suggested example, while a central, scenic and resource-rich plot can be equally sensible if it has enough buildable ground.
Even on PvE, avoid placing the heart beside a chokepoint that you must cross constantly. A base that looks central on the map may be awkward in practice if cliffs, water or blocked paths force a long detour. Walk the route to your primary resource, enemy and crafting destinations before deciding.
Castle Heart placement: PvE versus PvP
The Castle Heart is the critical anchor of the castle and the primary target in PvP sieges, so it should be enclosed and planned into the layout from the beginning. The following heart-placement advice is less firmly established than the regional recommendations and should be treated as a community design convention, not an official rule.

One community guide recommends a ground-floor heart near the entrance on PvE servers. The reasoning is convenience: you can reach it quickly to feed blood essence. This layout is practical only if the room remains protected from accidental exposure and leaves enough space for later expansion.
PvP heart placement
The same guide suggests placing the heart on an upper floor and burying it behind a honeycomb of rooms for PvP. Other general guidance emphasizes high ground, chokepoints and a heart centered within the planned build area so the castle can expand in every direction. Because these details are not corroborated by an official layout rule, test the design against your server’s siege settings and current patch behavior.
A heart-planning procedure
- Outline the maximum castle footprint you can realistically build on the plot.
- Mark a central heart room that is not pressed against a cliff, water edge or outer wall.
- Reserve protected routes for blood essence feeding and maintenance.
- On PvP, add multiple interior layers and avoid a direct line from the main entrance to the heart.
- On PvE, keep access convenient but still leave room for production and future floors.
- Before final construction, confirm that every planned room can be reached without blocking doors, stairs or resource paths.
Locations and claims that need extra caution
Some guides list Cursed Forest or Gloomrot as potential castle regions, but those recommendations could not be confirmed consistently. They should not displace the better-supported Farbane, Dunley, Silverlight or Hallowed Mountains choices without checking your current map and patch.
Claims tied to “Invaders of Oakveil” in Patch 1.1 and a Redistribution Engine unlocking at level 74 are likewise unverified here. Do not choose a location or plan a relocation around those details unless the current in-game information or official patch notes confirm them.

Map layouts and balance are volatile. Check the in-game map, server rules and current patch notes immediately before committing a permanent castle, especially after a major update.
A practical decision workflow
- Set the objective: Select early progression, balanced mid-game logistics, silver production, PvE convenience, defensive PvP or aggressive PvP.
- Shortlist the region: Use Farbane western plateau, Dunley, Silverlight Hills or Hallowed Mountains according to that objective.
- Inspect three plots: Compare approach count, usable footprint, resource routes and neighboring activity instead of taking the first available claim.
- Test a travel loop: Run from the plot to the resources and enemies you use most, then back to the proposed storage and crafting area.
- Plan the heart and expansion: Draw the heart room, production rooms and defensive layers before placing the heart.
- Confirm the server context: On PvP, account for clan traffic and siege access; on PvE, prioritize resources and convenience.
- Commit only after verification: Recheck the current map and patch notes because exact spots and balance can change.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing a region instead of a plot
“Dunley” or “Silverlight” is not a location precise enough for construction. Terrain, access and neighboring castles differ within each region. Scout the ground, not just the map label.
Putting the heart where the castle cannot grow
A heart placed on the only central flat area can force production rooms into awkward corners. Reserve the footprint first, then choose the heart position.
Optimizing for one resource forever
Resource needs change with progression. A silver-focused late-game move may be sensible, but a remote, resource-light mountain base can be inefficient if your group still farms elsewhere.
Assuming one entrance means automatic safety
A chokepoint helps only when it is observable, buildable and actually the sole practical route. Check for alternate approaches and leave room for layered defense.
Following an old or unverified guide literally
Exact plots, patch mechanics and regional balance can change. Treat community recommendations as priorities for scouting, then validate them on your current server.
