For open-world car cruising, start with Forza Horizon 5 and use its free-roam option when you want to drive without making races the focus. If you would rather take long, steady trips, consider American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2. “Chill” depends on what you enjoy: none of these games guarantees a relaxing experience, and each has a different pace and structure.
Which chill driving game should you choose?
| Game | Best fit | What to expect | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forza Horizon 5 | Car cruising with the option to race | An open-world game set in Mexico, with free-roam available alongside structured activities. | It is an arcade racing game, so races and festival framing may not suit someone looking for a pure driving simulator. TechRadar Gaming includes it in its racing-game coverage. |
| The Crew Motorfest | Scenery and a broad vehicle selection | Ubisoft describes a Hawaiian open world and more than 700 vehicle models from over 50 manufacturers. | It includes competitive activities and online modes. Check the current platform and online requirements before choosing it; Steam identifies both single-player and online modes. Steam listing. |
| American Truck Simulator | Long drives on US routes | A truck-focused option for self-directed journeys. A Windows Central first-person account describes long trips as relaxing to that writer. | It has a truck-and-route focus rather than car roaming; the relaxing impression is subjective, not a measured result. |
| Euro Truck Simulator 2 | Long drives on European routes | Another truck-focused choice for self-directed trips; the same Windows Central account describes using it for long journeys. | Its pace and vehicles differ from car roaming, and the cited account reflects one writer’s experience rather than a general finding. |
The official Forza site lists Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, and Steam purchase options. Ubisoft describes Motorfest as available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Store editions, platform availability, and online requirements can change, so check the current listing for your platform before buying.
How to pick a game that suits your kind of drive
- Choose your vehicle and handling. Forza Horizon 5 and The Crew Motorfest center on cars and other vehicles in arcade-style open worlds. The Truck Simulator games make the truck itself and the route the focus.
- Decide how much structure you want. Free-roam lets you set your own pace; races, themed activities, and delivery routes add goals and constraints. A game can offer both, but its structured activities may still shape the overall feel.
- Think about the scenery. Mexico is the setting for Forza Horizon 5, Ubisoft describes Motorfest’s open world as Hawaiian, and the two truck simulators focus on US and European routes respectively.
- Check platform and connectivity needs. If you want a solo session, verify that the edition you plan to buy supports the play mode you want. Motorfest’s Steam listing identifies single-player and online modes; that does not establish the requirements for every platform or edition.
- Consider whether you want music and a long, uninterrupted trip. Community posts use phrases such as “looking for a chill driving game” and describe wanting to drive around and listen to music for hours. Those are individual examples, not evidence of a representative player preference.
What “chill” means in these games
It is a preference, not an objective property of a game. One player may enjoy an open-world racer by ignoring events and cruising; another may find the festival presentation or competitive activities distracting. A truck simulator may suit someone who wants sustained route-based driving, but that slower, vehicle-specific format will not appeal to everyone.
The available product information supports differences in setting, vehicle focus, activity, and modes—not an objective ranking of which game is most relaxing. Treat free-roam and self-directed trips as ways to shape a session, not a promise that the game will feel calm.
