Minecraft Dungeons II: the most flexible choice for a group
Minecraft Dungeons II is the clearest choice when the group needs multiple ways to join. Its PlayStation page lists couch, online, mixed co-op, and matchmaking, with up to four players locally and four online. That combination makes it easier to accommodate friends in the same room and friends joining remotely. The PS5 release date listed is September 29, 2026.
Minecraft Dungeons: an approachable four-player alternative
The original Minecraft Dungeons takes the basic pleasures of a dungeon crawler—exploring hostile spaces, fighting enemies, and finding loot—and presents them in the Minecraft universe. PlayStation describes co-op for up to four, but its listing does not break that maximum into local and online capacities. Path of Exile 2: for players who want to study builds
Path of Exile 2 is a better fit for players who enjoy complex character planning than for a group looking for the easiest first crawler. Its PlayStation listing describes 12 character classes, 240 Skill Gems, and more than 100 unique bosses. It supports couch co-op, cross-play, and cross-progression. Those feature counts describe the game’s scope, not a measure of how good or easy it is.
The PlayStation page consulted on October 4, 2026 describes the game as a premium early-access title and says free-to-play is planned for full release, with a date to be announced. Check the live regional listing for its current access and pricing status. In a May 30, 2024 PlayStation.Blog announcement, Game Director Jonathan Rogers said: “Players can play collaboratively on a single account, or log in with two separate Path of Exile accounts on the same console.” That statement describes the announced co-op setup; use the current listing for present availability.

Dungeons 4: for running the dungeon, not just raiding it
Dungeons 4 is a genre edge case. PlayStation classifies it as a strategy game, and its co-op lets two players manage one dungeon online across campaign and skirmish maps. Setting up couch co-op on PS5
For local multiplayer, make sure each player has a usable controller and that the specific game supports the number of people you want on one console. PlayStation promotes an extra DualSense controller as an option for local multiplayer, but an additional controller is not a universal requirement for every game in this list. Before purchasing, confirm the local player count on the current listing—especially if you plan to play four on one PS5.
