Start with SCUF’s beta-era controller baseline, then tune sensitivity and deadzones to your hands and controller. Use Tactical layout, 1.65 horizontal and vertical sensitivity, a 0.95–1.00 ADS multiplier, Dynamic aim response, Instant ADS transition, aim assist enabled, minimum stick deadzones of 3, and vibration off. These values are a starting point rather than a universal best setting.
There is no published official Modern Warfare 4 audio preset with verified mix names or slider values. Configure the live game’s audio menu for the headphones or speakers you actually use, keep dialogue and voice chat intelligible, and test in a private match. This guidance reflects information available on October 13, 2026, before the scheduled October 23 launch, so confirm every label and value in the released build.

What is confirmed before launch
Activision lists Modern Warfare 4 for release on October 23, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. The official multiplayer descriptions emphasize precise combat, fluid movement, physical weapon handling, visibility, and refined audio design, but they do not prescribe controller or audio-menu values.
Recommended Free Tools
Activision also lists 12 new 6v6 maps. That gives you a useful range of spaces for practice, but map count is not evidence that one sensitivity or audio mix is optimal. The detailed numerical controller recommendations currently available come from SCUF Gaming’s September 21, 2026 guide, which expressly bases them on beta and pre-launch settings.

Treat the table below as a provisional baseline. Menu names, ranges, and defaults can change between beta and launch, and values can vary by platform. SCUF’s recommendations are third-party advice, not an official endorsement or a post-launch test result.
SCUF’s provisional controller baseline
| Setting | Starting value | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Button layout | Tactical | Moves crouch or slide access to a more convenient face or stick position, depending on the game’s layout implementation. |
| Stick layout | Default | Keeps movement and aim on their standard sticks. |
| Horizontal sensitivity | 1.65 | Controls left-right camera speed. |
| Vertical sensitivity | 1.65 | Controls up-down camera speed. |
| ADS sensitivity multiplier | 0.95–1.00 | Scales aim speed while aiming down sights. |
| Aim response curve | Dynamic | Changes how stick movement translates into camera speed across small and large inputs. |
| ADS transition timing | Instant | Applies the ADS sensitivity behavior immediately when aiming. |
| Target aim assist | On | Leaves the game’s target-assistance behavior enabled. |
| ADS aim assist | On | Leaves assistance enabled while aiming down sights. |
| Motion sensor | Off | Disables motion-based aiming for a conventional stick-only setup. |
| Left-stick minimum deadzone | 3 | Smallest stick input the game ignores before movement begins. |
| Left-stick maximum deadzone | 65 | Input level at which the game treats the stick as fully deflected. |
| Right-stick minimum deadzone | 3 | Smallest aim-stick input ignored before the camera moves. |
| Right-stick maximum deadzone | 99 | Maximum aim-stick input range. |
| Trigger deadzones | 0–5 | How far each trigger must move before the game registers it. |
| Vibration | Off | Removes rumble feedback that can distract from fine aim. |
| Sprint assistance | Tactical Sprint Assist; delay 1; single-tap sprint activation | Automates tactical-sprint behavior while retaining a short activation delay. |
SCUF’s 1.65 values are not a population average, laboratory measurement, or official game statistic. They are a practical beta-era recommendation. Start there only if the speed feels controllable; comfort and consistency matter more than matching a published number.
How to enter the baseline safely
- Update the game and controller. Install the current Modern Warfare 4 build and any console, PC, or controller firmware update before judging input behavior.
- Open the current controller settings page. Use the game’s live Settings or Controller menu. Beta and launch labels may differ, so match each setting by its function rather than assuming the wording is unchanged.
- Choose Tactical and Default stick layout. Move through the layout preview and confirm that crouch, slide, jump, melee, and reload are reachable without releasing the aim stick.
- Set both sensitivity values to 1.65. Keep horizontal and vertical equal for the first test. Separate them later only if vertical tracking consistently feels too fast or too slow.
- Set ADS multiplier to 0.95 or 1.00. Use 0.95 if your reticle overshoots while tracking; use 1.00 if ADS feels noticeably slower than hip-fire.
- Select Dynamic response and Instant ADS transition. Test a few turns and target switches before changing the curve. A different curve can feel dramatically faster or slower even at the same sensitivity number.
- Leave target and ADS aim assist on. This reproduces the cited starting point. Do not infer that assistance guarantees a hit or replaces manual tracking.
- Turn motion sensing off. If you deliberately use gyro or motion aiming, treat that as a separate control scheme and retune sensitivity rather than combining it with this baseline unchanged.
- Enter the deadzones. Begin with left minimum 3, left maximum 65, right minimum 3, and right maximum 99. Apply the same values only if the released menu uses the same scale.
- Set trigger deadzones between 0 and 5. Choose the lowest value that does not create unintended firing or aiming when your fingers rest on the triggers.
- Disable vibration and configure sprint assistance. Use Tactical Sprint Assist, delay 1, and single-tap sprint activation, then verify that ordinary movement remains available when you need precision.
- Save and test one variable at a time. Use a training area or private match. Change one value, play several minutes, and record whether the change improved tracking, turning, movement, or accidental input.
How to tune sensitivity without chasing a magic number
Keep the first test controlled
Begin with the same weapon, field of view, and controller grip for several minutes. Make repeated short turns, a full 180-degree turn, and slow tracking across a moving target. If you alter sensitivity, change only horizontal and vertical values or only the ADS multiplier, not both at once.
When to lower the values
Lower general sensitivity in small steps when you regularly pass the target during close-range turns, cannot stop the reticle on a head or upper torso, or feel that tiny thumb movements create large camera jumps. Lowering the ADS multiplier affects scoped tracking without making every hip-fire turn slower.
When to raise the values
Raise sensitivity gradually when an opponent can move across your screen faster than you can follow, when a 180-degree turn requires lifting and resetting the stick repeatedly, or when close-range fights feel mechanically sluggish. Increase ADS separately if hip-fire turns feel fine but aimed tracking lags behind moving targets.

Why equal horizontal and vertical is only a starting point
SCUF lists 1.65 for both axes, which is simple to evaluate. Some players need a lower vertical value for recoil control or a higher value for rapid elevation changes. Make that change only after you have established that the basic horizontal speed is comfortable.
Dynamic response is not a sensitivity replacement
The response curve controls acceleration through the stick’s travel. If your first few millimeters feel too slow but full deflection is comfortable, changing the curve may address the problem better than raising sensitivity. Conversely, if small corrections feel jumpy, a different curve or lower ADS multiplier may be easier to control. The cited baseline uses Dynamic, so compare alternatives only after learning that behavior.
Deadzone tuning and stick-drift checks
What the minimum deadzone does
A minimum deadzone filters very small stick signals. At the starting value of 3, the game ignores a narrow area around center. A worn stick may drift inside that area; a newer or tighter stick may respond accurately at a lower value if the menu permits it.
Symptoms of a minimum deadzone that is too low
- The camera moves while your right thumb is off the stick.
- Your character walks or strafes without deliberate left-stick pressure.
- The reticle slowly pulls in one direction during a stationary test.
Increase the affected stick’s minimum deadzone one step at a time until the drift stops, then retest fine aim. A larger deadzone can remove unwanted movement but also makes tiny corrections less immediate.
Symptoms of a minimum deadzone that is too high
- Small corrections do nothing until you push farther than expected.
- Tracking feels notchy or delayed around the center.
- You must make larger thumb movements than the target requires.
Reduce the value gradually if the hardware remains centered. Do not copy a low value onto a drifting controller simply because it appears faster.

Maximum deadzones and trigger deadzones
The SCUF starting points of left maximum 65 and right maximum 99 describe the input range, not controller quality. If full movement or aim arrives before the stick reaches its physical edge, the maximum value may be too low for your preference; if full deflection never feels attainable, check that the value is not too high for the game’s scale. Trigger values from 0 to 5 prioritize early activation. Raise them if resting pressure causes accidental shots, equipment use, or ADS.

Tactical versus the default layout
Tactical is useful when you want crouch or slide access without taking your thumb off the aim stick. It is not automatically superior: players with established muscle memory may lose more time relearning the layout than they gain from the new placement. Spend a complete practice session on one layout before deciding.
Tactical Sprint Assist
The cited configuration uses Tactical Sprint Assist with delay 1 and single-tap sprint activation. This can reduce repeated stick clicks and make fast movement easier to trigger. It can also start a sprint when you intended a careful walk or a precise pre-aim. If that happens, increase the delay or disable the assistance after testing the live menu.
Aim assist
Keeping target and ADS aim assist on matches the provisional baseline. Assistance can help maintain contact with a target, but it does not correct poor positioning, missed shots, recoil management, or latency. Evaluate it by your ability to stay on target rather than by expecting a guaranteed advantage.
Vibration
SCUF recommends vibration off to reduce feedback during aiming. PlayStation’s Modern Warfare 4 listing confirms support for DualSense vibration and trigger effects, so PS5 players can choose to keep those features enabled for tactile feedback instead. Off is a preference for a quieter, less distracting controller, not an official rule or a universally better option.

Audio settings: what is and is not established
The official Call of Duty multiplayer overview dated August 21, 2026 describes refined audio design as part of a broader combat-fidelity system that also includes trajectory, weapon motion, stance, camera behavior, field of view, and target visibility. It does not publish a named audio mix, headphone mode, dynamic-range setting, master-volume value, music value, effects value, or voice-chat recommendation.
Because those values are not documented, do not treat an invented slider recipe as a verified Modern Warfare 4 advantage. No cited source establishes that a particular mix lets every player hear footsteps earlier, distinguishes every surface reliably, or compensates for a poor output device.
Configure audio on the released build
- Use the current in-game audio menu. Open the live game’s Settings and inspect the available output, mix, effects, dialogue, music, master, and voice-chat controls. Record the exact labels shown by your platform rather than relying on beta screenshots.
- Match the output to your device. Select the option that corresponds to the headphones, television speakers, monitor, or receiver you are actually using, if the game provides output choices. Do not select a headphone mode while listening through television speakers.
- Set a comfortable master level first. Choose a volume that remains clear during long sessions without forcing you to raise it to uncomfortable levels for quiet sounds.
- Reduce competing sounds only as far as needed. If music, menu effects, or dialogue mask gameplay cues, lower those categories while keeping effects and voice communication intelligible. Use the game’s actual labels and available ranges.
- Balance voice chat separately. Adjust incoming chat and microphone levels independently where available. Ask a teammate to speak while you test movement and weapon sounds so loud voices do not hide the rest of the mix.
- Check the platform output path. Confirm the console or PC is sending sound to the intended headset, controller jack, HDMI device, or USB interface. A correct in-game setting cannot fix the wrong system output.
- Test in representative situations. Listen during movement, firing, explosions, indoor and outdoor spaces, and a quiet pause. Compare comfort and clarity, not just the loudness of one cue.
Platform and controller considerations
| Platform or version | Relevant consideration |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | The PlayStation listing confirms DualSense vibration and trigger-effect support. Decide whether those effects improve feedback or interfere with fine aim; SCUF’s baseline turns vibration off. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Use the current Xbox controller menu and system audio output. The pre-launch numbers may require verification against the Xbox build. |
| Xbox PC | Check both the game’s controller page and Windows audio output so the selected device matches the one in use. |
| Battle.net and Steam on PC | Controller behavior can be affected by the launcher, operating-system input routing, and controller software. Verify that only the intended controller profile is active. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | The listed launch platform may use different controller hardware and menu ranges. Treat the SCUF values as a reference, not a guarantee that every field exists or uses the same scale. |
Troubleshooting common problems
The camera or character moves by itself
Raise the minimum deadzone for the drifting stick one step at a time and test again. If drift persists at an unusually high value, inspect the controller, reconnect it, and compare with another controller before blaming sensitivity.
Aim feels delayed after lowering deadzones
Check for wireless interference, a low controller battery, display latency, and the platform’s output path. Then reduce the deadzone only as far as the stick remains centered. A deadzone change cannot remove network latency or television processing delay.

You cannot turn quickly enough
Raise horizontal sensitivity modestly or increase the ADS multiplier only if the problem occurs while aiming. Practice a full turn and a target switch after each change; a faster setting is not useful if you cannot stop accurately.
Sprinting starts when you want to pre-aim
Review Tactical Sprint Assist, its delay, and single-tap activation. Increase the delay, use a different activation method, or turn the assistance off if precise walking and pre-aiming are more important than automatic sprint access.
Rumble distracts your reticle
Turn vibration off as in the SCUF baseline. On PS5, this also changes the feel of DualSense effects; keep trigger effects only if they remain comfortable and do not cause you to tense your grip.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesVoice chat masks game audio
Lower incoming chat or raise the game-effects category only within comfortable limits. Verify that the selected output device is correct and ask teammates to check their microphone level before making the entire mix excessively loud.
Audio sounds different after an update
Reopen the live audio menu and recheck every category. Updates can change defaults or add output choices, so restore settings from your own notes rather than assuming the previous labels and ranges remain identical.
A repeatable practice routine
- Warm up without changing settings. Use the baseline for a full short session so unfamiliarity is not mistaken for poor tuning.
- Test close-range control. Track a target moving across your view and perform short 90-degree turns.
- Test long-range precision. Make small corrections while aiming and observe whether the reticle stops where intended.
- Test movement input. Walk, sprint, slide, jump, and stop near cover to catch accidental Tactical Sprint Assist activation.
- Test audio at a safe level. Compare quiet movement, gunfire, explosions, and teammate speech without raising volume beyond comfortable listening.
- Change one variable. Record the old and new value, then repeat the same drills. Keep a change only if it improves consistency rather than one isolated moment.
When to revisit the setup
Recheck the settings after the October 23, 2026 release, after any balance or input update, and whenever you change controller, headset, display, or platform. The beta-era SCUF values may remain useful, but only the live menu can confirm that the same fields and ranges still exist. Official Activision and Call of Duty updates are the appropriate places to verify release changes; third-party recommendations should be treated as experiments.
The practical answer is therefore two-part: use the cited SCUF controller values as an organized first test, and build audio around your actual device using the released game’s documented controls. Neither approach justifies claiming a universally best setup or guaranteed competitive benefit.
