The right choice depends on your player count, preferred server location, tolerance for administration, backup needs, and whether you want to pay at all. Core Keeper includes a free dedicated-server application, so renting a server is a convenience—not a requirement.
For a managed option, our top pick is Godlike.Host: it has its own Core Keeper hosting page, 10 data-center locations, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and a free trial server (it must be extended every 3 hours and has limited panel features). Among the other providers covered here, Nitrado has the most completely documented offer: its US page lists slot-based plans, selectable locations, and advertised automated backups. Game Host Bros uses RAM-based tiers and says it includes world transfers without charging by player count. GPORTAL also lists Core Keeper hosting, but the available evidence is not enough to rank any provider by independent speed, uptime, latency, or value measurements.

What “best” means for a Core Keeper server
Core Keeper is a persistent multiplayer game: a world can continue to exist while the original host is offline if it runs on a dedicated server. That makes hosting decisions less about a single performance winner and more about matching the service to your group.

- Capacity: how many people need access at the same time.
- Administration: whether someone in your group wants to install updates, manage files, and troubleshoot connections.
- Location: where the server is physically hosted relative to most players.
- Recovery: whether backups, world transfers, and file access are included.
- Billing: whether you prefer a recurring managed service or a free server application running on hardware you control.
No independent benchmark, uptime dataset, or measured latency comparison was established for the providers below. Their pages prove that the listed offers and features exist or are advertised; they do not prove that one host performs better than another in every region or group size.

Do you need to rent a Core Keeper server?
No. In a May 11, 2022 Steam announcement, Core Keeper said players could operate their own dedicated servers for multiplayer worlds that remain accessible without the host being in the game. The announcement also said port forwarding was no longer necessary for the setup it described. This makes paid hosting optional: you are paying for convenience, an always-on machine, and a provider’s management tools rather than access to a feature unavailable elsewhere.
When self-hosting makes sense
- You already have a computer that can remain powered on when friends want to play.
- Someone in the group is comfortable installing the dedicated-server software and applying updates.
- You want direct control over world files, configuration, and backups.
- You are willing to diagnose connectivity or operating-system problems yourself.
When renting is simpler
- No player wants to leave a personal computer running.
- Your group plays across different schedules and needs a persistent world.
- You want a web management panel instead of local file administration.
- You prefer a provider to handle the machine, storage, and routine server operation.
Core Keeper hosting options compared
| Option | Published model or evidence | What it can simplify | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | Dedicated Core Keeper hosting page; 10 data-center locations, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and a Pterodactyl-based panel with SFTP/FTP access. | Managed hosting with a task scheduler, sub-users with permissions, prorated upgrades or downgrades from the panel, 24/7 live chat or ticket support, and a free trial server for testing the panel. | See the current plans for the price. The free Core Keeper server must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and one location. The money-back guarantee covers a first purchase only, within 3 calendar days. |
| Self-hosted dedicated server | Free dedicated-server application; owner controls the computer and files. | No hosting bill and complete control over worlds and settings. | Your machine’s suitability, uptime, updates, storage, networking, and administration workload. The reviewed sources do not establish minimum CPU, RAM, storage, or bandwidth requirements. |
| Nitrado | US page lists 4- and 8-slot plans, selectable locations, and advertised automated backups. | Managed hosting, a slot-based choice, location selection, and a documented backup feature. | Live regional price, billing period, slot availability, location, and checkout total. |
| Game Host Bros | RAM tiers of 6 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB; provider advertises free world transfers and no extra player-count charge. | A resource-based plan model and stated transfer assistance. | Whether the selected RAM tier fits your world, available locations, current terms, and what the transfer service includes. These are provider claims, not independent performance measurements. |
| GPORTAL | Dedicated Core Keeper product page; the company describes itself as an official hoster. | A managed Core Keeper listing to investigate. | Current configuration, price, resources, region, backups, controls, and billing period. Captured information is insufficient for a like-for-like ranking. |
Nitrado: slot-based plans with selectable locations
Nitrado has the clearest published Core Keeper pricing in the material available for this comparison. Its US offer page listed the following figures when captured:
| Plan | Captured price | Billing qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 4 slots | $6.59 | 30 days, US page capture |
| 8 slots | $12.99 | 30 days, US page capture |
The page listed locations including Frankfurt, London, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. It also advertises automated backups. Those details are useful decision points, but they are not permanent guarantees: prices, currencies, available locations, taxes, and plan terms can change, and the captured figures should not be mixed with prices from another country’s storefront.
Who should examine Nitrado first?
Nitrado is a practical candidate if you want a slot limit that maps directly to a small group and prefer a managed control panel. A four-slot plan is a starting point for a compact group; an eight-slot plan gives more simultaneous places. Do not treat the slot number as a performance benchmark or assume that every world will behave identically at the listed limit. Confirm the live checkout page, selected data center, renewal terms, and backup settings before paying.
Game Host Bros: RAM-based tiers
Game Host Bros publishes a different way to choose capacity. Its page showed these monthly tiers:
Rank #2
- RYZEN 7 H 255 CPU - The Ryzen 7 H 255 is a chip from the Hawk Point family and is an upgraded version of the older Ryzen 7 8745H and has 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) that run at up to 4.9 GHz, together with the powerful Radeon 780M iGPU. Unlike Zen 3, Zen 4 offers AVX512 support along with other improvements such as larger caches/registers/buffers across the board.
- GAMING PC - The Radeon 780M (12 CUs / 768 shaders, up to 2,600 MHz) can drive multiple displays simultaneously with a resolution of up to 8K. Hardware encoding and hardware decoding of the most common video codecs (AV1, AVC, HEVC) is also no problem; playing the latest games on FSR settings without issues.
- WHY CHOOSE DDR5 5600MHz DUAL CHANNEL (2×16GB): With a 5600MHz clock—a 17% frequency uplift over 4800MHz—this kit delivers massive bandwidth gains that elevate real-world performance. Gamers enjoy higher minimum FPS and less stutter in open-world and sim titles for a smoother competitive experience. Video editors and 3D creators benefit from faster 4K/8K timeline scrubbing, quicker renders in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, and swifter asset loading. For AI/LLM workloads, the superior throughput reduces I/O bottlenecks, cuts token generation latency, and accelerates model fine-tuning by keeping processing cores fed with data—so you wait less and create more.
- 32GB DDR5 RAM + 512GB SSD - The K12 mini computer is equipped with Dual 16GB (Total 32GB) SO-DIMM DDR5 5600MHz memory sticks. 512GB PCIE 4.0 SSD Drive with 3x M.2 2280 Expansion slots. Each slot capable of reading up to 8TB. (24TB MAX)
- QUAD SCREEN 4K DISPLAY SUPPORT - K12 Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and USB Type-C Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
| Advertised memory | Captured price | Billing qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 6 GB | $11.99 per month | Monthly figure shown on the provider page |
| 8 GB | $15.99 per month | Monthly figure shown on the provider page |
| 12 GB | $23.99 per month | Monthly figure shown on the provider page |
The provider advertises free transfer of an existing server and says it does not charge extra based on player count. Those statements describe the provider’s terms, not an independently verified relationship between RAM and a particular number of players. The available evidence does not establish how many players, mods, or world changes each tier can support, so select a tier only after confirming current resource limits and asking support how transfers are handled.
Why the RAM model requires more questions
A RAM number is not interchangeable with a slot count. A slot plan tells you the provider’s stated simultaneous-player allowance; a RAM plan tells you one resource allocation. CPU performance, storage behavior, software configuration, world size, content bundles, and the provider’s implementation also affect a server. Because no controlled tests were collected, a larger advertised tier cannot be presented as a guaranteed smoother or more reliable experience.

GPORTAL: an additional managed listing
GPORTAL has a live Core Keeper hosting page and identifies itself there as an official hoster. That establishes that a dedicated product is available to investigate. The captured material does not provide enough plan, price, resource, location, or backup information to compare it numerically with the published Nitrado and Game Host Bros figures.
If you are considering GPORTAL, record the exact region, plan configuration, player allowance or resource allocation, billing interval, cancellation terms, and included backup or file-management features at checkout. This prevents an apparently similar plan from being compared on a different basis.
Self-hosting the free dedicated server
Core Keeper’s official announcement establishes the free dedicated-server option, while a community setup reference documents SteamCMD installation and the locations used for saves and configuration. The evidence does not establish a universal minimum computer specification, so no particular mini PC, processor, memory amount, or network connection can responsibly be labeled sufficient from these sources alone.

General setup sequence
- Install the dedicated-server application. Core Keeper distributes it through the game’s Tools application. A SteamCMD-based installation is also documented by the community setup guide.
- Choose a machine and operating environment. Use hardware you can leave available when the group wants to connect. Keep in mind that the reviewed references do not publish minimum CPU, RAM, storage, or networking requirements.
- Locate the save and configuration files. The community guide identifies the relevant save/config locations. Back up these files before changing settings or moving a world.
- Configure the world. Set the world name, seed, game mode, season, content bundles, connection settings, and platform filtering as needed.
- Start the server and test a connection. Have one player join before inviting the whole group. Record the world identity and any connection information you will need after a restart.
- Plan updates and backups. Apply game updates deliberately, stop the server before copying world files, and keep more than one backup copy if the world matters to your group.
The dedicated-server reference is identified as version 1.2.1.5 and was verified on September 7, 2026. Treat its labels and behavior as version-qualified rather than timeless documentation.
Player limits and stability
That reference lists eight as the default maximum player count and warns that higher counts may require more resources or make a session unstable. “Eight” is therefore a documented default, not a promise that every machine or hosted plan will deliver identical results. If your group expects more than eight simultaneous players, confirm current game behavior and provider limits before building your setup around it.
Important Core Keeper server settings
The available technical reference lists several configurable categories:
- World identity: world name and seed.
- Gameplay: mode and season.
- Content: enabled content bundles.
- Connectivity: connection-related settings.
- Platform access: platform filtering.
These controls do not by themselves prove that every host supports every platform combination. Provider-specific cross-play behavior must be confirmed with the current host documentation and your chosen plan.
How to choose without overpaying
For a small, fixed group
Compare the four-slot Nitrado listing with self-hosting first. The captured Nitrado figure was $6.59 for 30 days on its US page, but check the current total and renewal terms. Self-hosting may cost nothing for the server application, but it shifts the cost into electricity, hardware availability, maintenance, and your time.

For a group that may grow
Compare Nitrado’s eight-slot listing with the RAM tiers from Game Host Bros. Do not convert eight slots into a required number of gigabytes; the two providers describe capacity differently. Ask each provider how additional players, world transfers, backups, and resource limits are handled.
For players who value recovery
Put backup policy at the top of the checklist. Nitrado advertises automated backups. For other services, obtain the exact retention schedule, restoration process, and whether you can download world files. A statement that backups exist is less useful than knowing how many copies are retained and how quickly you can restore one.
For players who dislike administration
A managed host is likely more convenient than maintaining a local machine, but “managed” does not eliminate every task. You may still need to choose a location, set passwords or access controls, update the game, configure platform filters, and test a restore. Ask support what the provider actually operates for you.

Changing settings without a world backup
Stop the server, copy the world and configuration files, then make one change at a time. If the world fails to load, restore the last known-good copy instead of repeatedly overwriting it.
Moving a world without checking file access
Before cancelling an old service, confirm that you can export the complete world and know where the new host expects it. Keep the original copy until players have successfully joined the replacement server.
Players cannot connect
Confirm the server is running, the world identifier is correct, and the selected platform filter allows the player’s platform. If the issue persists, ask the provider whether the server is online and whether the current plan supports the intended connection method.
Bottom line
For a managed Core Keeper server, our top pick is Godlike.Host: it has its own Core Keeper hosting page, 10 locations, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and a free trial server (extended every 3 hours, with limited panel features and one location) for trying the panel before you commit. Self-hosting is the only free path without those restrictions and gives you control, but it also makes you responsible for hardware, uptime, updates, files, and recovery. Among the paid listings covered here, Nitrado offers the clearest published slot prices, locations, and advertised automated backups; Game Host Bros offers a clearly stated RAM-based menu plus advertised transfer help and no extra player-count charge. GPORTAL deserves consideration when its current regional plan fits your needs, but the available evidence does not justify calling any host the fastest, most reliable, or universally best.
