Choose a dagger pairing by role and mode
The pairings below are broad archetypes described by build guides, not a verified current tier list or a ranking based on comparable tests. GamesLantern’s index separates PvE, small-scale PvP and large-scale PvP builds, while Throney describes several pairings by role and difficulty. Use those descriptions to narrow your choice, then check the individual build and current in-game skill details before committing to a patch-specific loadout.

Which pairing should you pick?
For durable melee engagement: Greatsword + Dagger
This is the clearest option if you want to enter melee and remain a threat under pressure. Throney describes Greatsword + Dagger as able to frontline through durability, then dive for kills with burst. GamesLantern’s Ravager entry is specifically listed under small-scale PvP; that listing alone does not establish how it performs in other modes.
For high-risk ranged burst: Dagger + Crossbow
Crossbow gives the pairing a ranged-assassin character, with burst combinations rather than the Greatsword pairing’s emphasis on frontline durability. The overview rates its execution difficulty as hard, so it is a better fit if you enjoy coordinating a burst opportunity than if you want a forgiving setup. GamesLantern has entries for both PvE and PvP, but the role description should not be mistaken for a mode-specific build prescription.

For ranged pressure and timed dives: Dagger + Longbow
Longbow offers a different ranged approach: apply pressure at range, then look for an opening to dive and execute. It suits players who would rather choose when to engage than stay committed to close combat. GamesLantern indexes PvE and PvP options, but the broad description does not specify a single rotation or gear setup.
For melee pressure and control: Spear + Dagger
Spear + Dagger is a melee choice for players who value sustained damage as well as burst, with mobility and crowd control also part of its described role. GamesLantern lists builds for small- and large-scale PvP, making the mode distinction especially important when choosing a guide.

For magic or a less-defined hybrid: Staff or Wand + Dagger
GamesLantern characterizes Staff + Dagger as a magic hybrid that draws on poison and critical-focused dagger passives, and lists a Spellblade PvP build. Wand + Dagger appears as Darkblighter in PvE and both PvP scales, but the inspected descriptions do not substantiate a detailed role or performance claim. For either pairing, use the individual build page to understand the intended mode and current setup rather than inferring strengths from the name.
What daggers contribute to a weapon combination
The official Throne and Liberty gameplay page describes daggers as fast, poison-oriented weapons and presents weapon mastery as a way to select nodes that alter or empower skills. It also encourages experimentation across weapon combinations. That makes dagger a possible primary weapon or a secondary weapon supporting another weapon’s damage, rather than a pairing with only one fixed role.

GamesLantern’s Dagger weapon guide emphasizes critical potential, mobility and stealth, and names skills or passives including Inject Venom, Shadow Strike, Camouflage Cloak, Brutal Incision, Assassin’s Instincts, Destructive Fang and Wrathful Edge. Its descriptions say poison deals damage over time; Shadow Strike moves behind a target and may bind; Camouflage Cloak grants stealth and empowers the first attack; and Brutal Incision has increased critical potential against low-health targets. These are patch-sensitive descriptions, so confirm the current skill text in game before relying on exact behavior.
The same guide presents Greatsword as a complement to dagger critical potential, Crossbow as a source of rapid ranged attacks and repeated critical opportunities, and Staff as a way to combine magic spells with dagger poison and critical passives. These are pairing rationales, not measured damage comparisons.

How to narrow your choice before following a build
- Choose your mode: decide whether you are building for PvE, small-scale PvP or large-scale PvP. A pairing being listed in one mode does not prove it is the strongest in another.
- Choose your engagement style: Greatsword and Spear are described as melee options; Crossbow and Longbow offer ranged-assassin approaches; Staff combines magic pressure with dagger mechanics.
- Set your priority: favor the described durability and burst dive of Greatsword, high-risk burst of Crossbow, ranged pressure and execute dives of Longbow, or sustained melee pressure and control from Spear.
- Check execution demands: the inspected overview calls Crossbow + Dagger hard difficulty and Greatsword + Dagger and Spear + Dagger medium difficulty. Do not assume the other pairings have a comparable difficulty rating from this evidence.
- Verify the actual build: open the specific mode’s build page and check its update date and game region. Then confirm skill descriptions and mechanics in the current game before copying a loadout.
What build listings do—and do not—establish
GamesLantern’s Dagger Builds index lists dagger-related classifications across modes, including Berserker (Sword + Dagger), Darkblighter (Wand + Dagger), Infiltrator (Longbow + Dagger), Lunarch (Orb + Dagger), Ravager (Greatsword + Dagger), Scorpion (Crossbow + Dagger), Shadowdancer (Spear + Dagger) and Spellblade (Dagger + Staff). These are community guide labels, not official game roles. Their presence shows that build paths exist; it does not by itself prove viability, ranking or superiority.
No comparable damage tests, named statistics or reliable universal tier ranking establish which pairing is currently strongest. The inspected community database lists Update 4.5.0, dated July 31, 2026, but its dagger balance changes were not reviewed; the broad recommendations here therefore should not be read as a patch-verified best-in-slot verdict. An exact gear list, attribute allocation, skill bar or rotation requires checking the relevant individual build and its version context.
