For a TV without a supported Xbox app, Xbox currently lists four Amazon Fire TV devices for Xbox Cloud Gaming: Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). You’ll also need a compatible Bluetooth controller. If you already own a supported LG, Samsung, or VIDAA TV, you may be able to play without buying a separate streamer. Compatibility is not a performance ranking: Xbox does not publish comparative results for these devices.
Which streaming devices work with Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Xbox’s current TV compatibility page names these Fire TV models:

That is a specific compatibility list, not confirmation that every Fire TV Stick, Cube, or HDMI streaming device supports the Xbox app. Check the exact model against Xbox’s live list before you buy.

Is a Fire TV device the best choice?
It is the clearest dedicated-device choice when your television lacks an Xbox app and you want a model Xbox explicitly supports. But the available evidence establishes compatibility, not which device has the lowest latency, best picture, or best value. Xbox says streaming performance is affected by internet connection, user location, device, and other factors; it publishes no comparative performance results for these options.
What you need to play
A compatible device and controller
For Fire TV, pair a compatible Bluetooth controller. Examples listed by Xbox and Amazon include the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, and DualShock 4. Controller compatibility can vary by device, so check the current verified list for your intended setup. Amazon’s Fire TV setup guide covers installing the app and pairing a controller.

Game access and subscription
Most games in the Xbox app require an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, though exceptions exist. Which games you can play, and the access options available, vary by plan, region, platform, and time. Check that the games you want are currently available for cloud play where you live before choosing a device.
A suitable internet connection
Xbox recommends a wired or 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection and lists 20 Mbps download speed for TV use. That is Xbox’s published recommendation, not a promise of smooth play: actual performance also depends on location, device, and other factors. Streamed play can have limitations involving resolution, audio output, saves, companion-app support, and peripherals.

Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Fire TV
- Confirm your Fire TV’s exact model is on Xbox’s supported-device list.
- Install the Xbox app from the Amazon Appstore.
- Open the app and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth controller with the Fire TV.
- Confirm your subscription or other access option and check that the game you want is available for cloud play in your region.
Amazon’s setup instructions provide further Fire TV guidance. If the app, controller, or a particular game is unavailable, recheck the supported model, controller compatibility, and current regional game access.
Check Samsung support before relying on a 2020 TV
Xbox’s compatibility page lists select Samsung TVs from 2020 onward. However, Windows Central reported that Microsoft notified users that Xbox app support on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs would end November 3, 2026. As of October 7, 2026, that reported cutoff is upcoming. If you own a 2020 Samsung TV, verify its current status with Xbox before planning around it, and recheck the live device list after the reported date.

What about TCL TVs?
In September 2026, Windows Central reported an announcement that the Xbox app would come to select TCL TVs. The report did not specify compatible models or launch details. Treat TCL as an announced future option, not a currently verified recommendation; use Xbox’s device list to confirm availability when details are published.
