There is no universal best ETS2 host. The right choice depends on your convoy size, budget, preferred region, and whether you want a managed control panel or are comfortable administering a Linux or Windows server. Managed plans listed for 2026 start at about $3.99–$12 per month, while a self-managed VPS starts near $4 per month but requires you to install, update and troubleshoot the dedicated server yourself.
What “dedicated server hosting” means for Euro Truck Simulator 2
Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) dedicated hosting runs the game’s separate server application continuously in a data center. Players connect to that process for a shared convoy session instead of relying on one driver’s home PC and upload connection. A hosted process can remain online when the owner is away, gives you a stable public endpoint, and separates server administration from the computer used to play.

There are two practical models:
- Managed game hosting: the provider supplies a web panel, installs the server software, handles much of the operating-system maintenance and usually offers one-click controls for restarting, changing files and viewing logs.
- Self-managed VPS: you rent a general-purpose virtual machine and perform the installation, firewall configuration, updates, backups and monitoring yourself. It can be inexpensive and flexible, but the low monthly price does not include your time.
ETS2’s dedicated server is a separate Steam tool. The SCS Modding Wiki identifies Steam application ID 1948160. You do not need to buy a physical server, gaming PC, steering wheel or other hardware to host it.

None of these sources establishes independent uptime, latency, support-response or customer-satisfaction statistics. Treat hardware and protection claims as specifications to confirm, not proof that one host is objectively “best.”
How to choose an ETS2 host
1. Start with the number of simultaneous drivers
Slot counts are not interchangeable. G-Portal’s entry listing specifies eight slots, while Game Host Bros advertises convoys of up to 128 players. A provider may also sell CPU or memory tiers instead of a simple slot count. Decide the maximum number of connected players, then check whether the advertised limit is a hard panel limit, a recommended capacity or merely a marketing maximum.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
2. Match the data-center region to your drivers
Distance affects round-trip latency. Put the server near the largest concentration of drivers rather than automatically choosing the country where you live. Freakhosting lists eight global locations; the other entries in the available listings do not specify a comparable number. Ask whether you can change location later and whether moving creates a new IP or data migration charge.
3. Separate DDoS protection from ordinary firewalling
Freakhosting and Fly-Serv explicitly list DDoS protection or Anti-DDoS. A basic firewall blocks unwanted ports but does not necessarily absorb a volumetric attack. Confirm the protected traffic types, mitigation capacity, response process and whether protection is included at every plan tier.

- COMPACT RESEALABLE PACKAGE: store your pack of Windex Gaming Wipes anywhere in your home for whenever a quick and easy wipedown is needed
4. Price the complete term, not only the headline month
Cybrancee lists discounts for one-year and three-year terms; G-Portal lists 30-, 90- and 180-day terms. Compare the amount charged today, the renewal price, taxes, extra slots, additional backups, dedicated IP charges and any setup fee. A cheap first month can cost more after a promotional period ends.
5. Decide how much administration you want
Managed hosting is usually the better fit if you want to create a convoy quickly, edit a few settings and let the provider handle the operating system. A VPS is attractive when you need custom automation, several concurrent instances or complete control over files and services. With a VPS, you are responsible for securing SSH, applying security updates, configuring ports, rotating credentials, monitoring disk space and restoring backups.

A managed ETS2 plan generally gives you a panel with a server name, start/stop/restart controls, file access and a console or log viewer. The exact interface varies. Before ordering, confirm all of the following:
- ETS2 dedicated-server support rather than only a generic game-server product.
- Steam-tool version updates and whether updates can be scheduled.
- Maximum slots and how the limit is enforced.
- Ability to upload or edit
server_config.sii,server_packages.siiandserver_packages.dat. - Automatic backups, retention period and restore procedure.
- Server location, IP address, port range and whether you receive a dedicated IPv4 address.
- Log access and support escalation when a configuration prevents startup.
Use the provider’s trial, if offered, to test the complete path: install the server, join from a second account, restart it, change the welcome message and restore a backup. Freakhosting lists a free two-day trial; establish what resources and support are included during that trial and when billing begins.

Self-hosting on a VPS: when the lower price is worth the work
A general VPS can start near $4 per month, but that figure is not an ETS2 performance guarantee. You must select enough memory and CPU, install the Steam dedicated-server tool, create the server data files, open the required network port and keep the service online. The provider may offer only infrastructure support; game-specific troubleshooting remains yours.
Choose a VPS when you need
- More control than a game panel allows, including multiple server instances.
- Custom scripts for scheduled restarts, backups or log processing.
- Freedom to choose an operating system and install other utilities.
- A predictable monthly infrastructure bill and the skills to maintain it.
Choose managed hosting instead when
- You do not administer Linux or Windows servers regularly.
- Your priority is a working convoy rather than custom automation.
- You need provider assistance with game-file deployment and restarts.
- The value of a panel and support exceeds the VPS price difference.
Official ETS2 dedicated-server files and launch options
The SCS Modding Wiki documents the dedicated-server tool and its command-line options. The two important switches are:
-server "<server packages file>"loads a non-default server game setup.-server_cfg "<server config file>"loads a non-default configuration.
Dedicated-server data does not require additional DLC or mod files for the server process. The required setup data is represented by server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat. Player clients still need any content required to join the session.
The configuration file is named server_config.sii in the available SCS documentation. It contains session description, connection-port information, a logon token and a moderator list. A default file is generated on first launch according to the wiki summary. If you run multiple instances at the same time, each instance must use different ports and different tokens.

Configuration fields include lobby_name, description, welcome_message and password. The wiki example gives a 63-character limit for the session name. Keep names and messages within the documented limits; an overlong value can prevent the intended text from appearing or cause a configuration error.

The exact package-manager commands depend on your VPS operating system, so the safe workflow is to follow the current SCS documentation and your provider’s SteamCMD instructions rather than copy a command intended for a different distribution.
- Create the VPS. Select a region close to most drivers, a supported operating system, enough memory for your planned player count and a persistent IPv4 address if the provider charges separately for one.
- Secure the machine first. Create a non-root administrator, use key-based SSH where supported, apply operating-system updates and enable a firewall. Allow SSH only from the addresses you need and reserve the ETS2 listening port for the game server.
- Install the Steam dedicated-server tool. Use SteamCMD or the installation method documented for your operating system, then install app ID
1948160into a directory owned by the service account. - Prepare the server package files. The community workflow commonly enables the game console by setting
g_developerandg_consoleto1inconfig.cfg, launches the game and runsexport_server_packages. This method is community guidance rather than a fully verified SCS procedure, so keep an original backup and stop if your game version behaves differently. - Create or accept the configuration. On first launch, check for
server_config.sii. Set the lobby name, description, welcome message, password, port information, logon token and moderator list using the syntax generated by the tool. - Launch with explicit files. Use
-serverto point to the package file and-server_cfgto point to the configuration when you are not using the defaults. Keep paths free of accidental quotation-mark or permission errors. - Open and forward the port. Permit the chosen TCP/UDP traffic in the VPS firewall and any provider-level network firewall. If you run more than one instance, assign a unique port to each configuration.
- Run under a service manager. Configure systemd, Supervisor or the equivalent for your operating system so the process restarts after a crash and starts after a reboot. Set a restart delay to avoid a rapid crash loop.
- Test privately. Join from a second ETS2 account or ask a driver in another network to connect. Confirm the lobby appears, the password works, the welcome message is visible and a restart does not erase the configuration.
- Back up before changes. Copy the package files, configuration, moderator list and any scripts to storage outside the VPS. Test a restore instead of assuming that a backup job succeeded.
Logon tokens and unresolved setup details
A search summary associated a Steam game-server login token with app ID 227300, but that requirement was not confirmed on a primary page in the available material. Do not hard-code that number into a production setup without checking the current SCS or Steam instructions. If the server refuses authentication, verify the current token-generation process, account permissions and the token value in server_config.sii before changing unrelated settings.
The available documentation also does not establish a separate file named config_server.cfg; the documented configuration name is server_config.sii. If a guide uses a different filename, confirm that it matches the current dedicated-server build rather than renaming files blindly.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Troubleshooting an ETS2 convoy server
The server does not appear in the lobby
- Confirm the process is running and that the configured port matches the port opened in both the VPS firewall and provider firewall.
- Check that the server configuration and package-file paths are correct in the launch command.
- Verify that the server has a valid authentication token if the current SCS instructions require one.
- Read the startup log for permission, syntax or missing-file errors before reinstalling.
Players can see the lobby but cannot join
- Test from a different network to rule out a local router or corporate firewall.
- Check the password and welcome/session settings for accidental character-limit violations.
- Confirm that the client and dedicated-server versions are compatible after an ETS2 update.
- Check whether required client content is installed; the server’s lack of DLC files does not guarantee that every client can join every session.
The process crashes after an edit
- Restore the last known-good
server_config.siiand test one change at a time. - Validate quotation marks, commas and field names against the configuration generated by the server.
- Remove an overlong lobby name or message and retry within the documented limits.
- Review disk space and file ownership, especially after running an installer as root.
A second instance will not start
- Give it its own configuration file, port and token.
- Use a separate data directory if the provider’s process layout requires one.
- Check CPU, memory and bandwidth headroom before increasing the player count on either instance.
What to ask support before you pay
- What is the exact monthly renewal price in my currency, including tax?
- How many slots are included, and is the limit enforced by software or only recommended?
- Which locations can I select, and can I move later without losing files?
- Are DDoS mitigation, backups, a dedicated IPv4 address and extra ports included?
- Can I edit
server_config.siiand uploadserver_packages.siiandserver_packages.dat? - How are ETS2 updates applied, and can I delay an update until the convoy community is ready?
- What happens to the server and backups if a payment fails or the plan is cancelled?
- For a trial, what are the resource limits and the exact time at which billing starts?
Recommended decision paths
Small private convoy, minimal administration
Start by comparing the low-end managed plans from Freakhosting, Cybrancee and Fly-Serv. Their advertised entry prices are in the roughly €3.99, $3.99 and £2.48 range respectively, but confirm slot counts and renewal terms. A managed panel is usually worth the modest premium when the group only needs one server and occasional setting changes.
Recommended Free Tools
Large public convoy
Prioritize a clearly stated player limit, CPU allocation, region and mitigation policy. Game Host Bros lists up to 128 players, while G-Portal’s entry listing is eight slots; these are different capacity classes, not direct equivalents. Obtain written confirmation that the selected plan can sustain your intended peak before committing to a long term.
Technical administrator running several instances
Compare a VPS with a managed plan on total labor, not headline price. A VPS near $4 per month may be economical if you already automate updates, backups and monitoring. If you do not, the time spent maintaining the host can exceed the monthly difference.
Uncertain or changing group size
Prefer month-to-month billing or a trial until you know actual demand. Long commitments can reduce the rate, but they also make it harder to change location, capacity or provider when your convoy grows.
Bottom line for 2026
Choose a managed ETS2 host when you want the fastest route to a stable convoy and do not want to maintain a server. Compare slots, location, DDoS coverage, backups and renewal cost alongside the advertised starting price. Choose a VPS only when you value control enough to handle Steam-tool installation, server_config.sii, firewall rules, authentication, updates and recovery yourself. The available listings establish prices and selected specifications, but they do not establish an independent quality winner, so the “best” option is the one whose verified capacity and support model match your convoy.
