Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For most players, the best game server hosting in 2026 is the provider that gives enough RAM for your game and mods at a transparent renewal price—not the one with the lowest banner price. Shockbyte, BisectHosting and Apex Hosting are the names that appear most often for Minecraft; Nodecraft is a flexible multi-game option; GTXGaming is frequently listed for ARK and Rust; and specialist low-cost listings such as TheGameHosting can be attractive for a small Rust server. The prices below are approximate figures reported by third-party comparison sites, not verified quotations from provider order pages.
Use the tables as a shortlist, then confirm the exact game edition, RAM, player slots, location, renewal price, backup policy, DDoS protection and refund window before paying. Those details can change the real cost more than the advertised entry price.
Best game server hosting at a glance
No single host is best for every game. Minecraft can run on a modest plan, while ARK and heavily modded Rust need substantially more resources. This is the practical shortlist from providers that recur across 2026 comparison guides.

| Provider | Commonly reported entry price | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shockbyte | About $2.50/month for 1 GB; one 2026 review lists Minecraft tiers at $3.99, $7.99 and $15.99 | Low-cost Minecraft, including basic modded setups | Prices conflict between guides; verify the current plan and renewal rate |
| BisectHosting | About $2.99/month; another listing gives $5.99 for 2 GB shared CPU and about $7.99 for 2 GB premium | Value per gigabyte and modded Minecraft | Shared and premium CPU plans are not equivalent; compare the hardware tier |
| Apex Hosting | Most reviews list $4.49 for 1 GB; other reports show $7.49 for 2 GB, $14.99 for 4 GB and $29.99 for 8 GB | Modpacks and players who want a simple managed setup | A dedicated IP is reported as an additional $5/month; starting figures vary by guide |
| Nodecraft | Most often about $5.96/month; other reports range from roughly $4.17 to $10, with one guide at $9.98 | Multi-game flexibility, backups and no stated player-slot restriction | Its reported price varies the most; check the exact game plan |
| GTXGaming | Rust from $23.98/month for 20 slots; ARK example £9.99/month | ARK and Rust configurations with game-specific plans | The ARK example is a Basic plan with 8 GB RAM and 10 slots; currencies and editions differ |
| TheGameHosting | $1.90/month listed as the lowest-priced Rust option in one comparison | A very small, budget Rust server | That figure is a single third-party report; confirm slots, RAM, location and renewal terms |
| GravelHost | $24/month listed for an ARK plan with 16 GB | Higher-memory ARK configuration | This is a comparison-site figure, not a verified live quote |
The figures are not a like-for-like price test. A 1 GB Minecraft plan, a 20-slot Rust plan and a 16 GB ARK plan serve different workloads. Compare the resources and limits in the same row before deciding.
How to choose the best game server hosting plan
1. Start with the game and edition
Confirm the exact server software first: Minecraft Java or Bedrock, a particular ARK edition, or a Rust build with the plugins you intend to run. “Supports the game” does not automatically mean that a host supports your chosen mod loader, modpack, map, plugin framework or console/PC edition.

2. Size the plan by RAM and workload
RAM is a more useful first comparison than the headline monthly price. Minecraft guides commonly quote about $3–$8 per month for basic plans, while another reviewer considers $5–$8 a more realistic starting range. Modpacks, view distance, automated farms and many simultaneous entities can push a server beyond a basic tier. ARK generally needs more memory and is commonly listed at roughly $10–$30 per month. Small Rust plans often begin around $10, although some hosts price by slot.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not treat a larger advertised player limit as proof of performance. CPU allocation, storage speed, simulation load, map size and mod efficiency also affect tick rate and latency. Published comparisons do not establish standardized CPU, storage, uptime or datacenter specifications for these providers, so request or verify those details before ordering.
3. Calculate the effective cost
Compare the monthly total after the first billing period. Add RAM upgrades, extra slots, a dedicated IP, backups and any control-panel or migration fee. Headline prices may be introductory, and renewal increases are not consistently stated in comparison listings.
4. Check the trial or refund window
Most providers are reported to offer a short money-back window or trial. Use it to test your actual map, modpack, backups and peak-hour performance. Read the exclusions: a refund policy may treat setup fees, consumed bandwidth, custom IPs or repeated cancellations differently.
5. Match the location to your players
Choose a datacenter close to most players and ask whether the selected game is available there. Location and latency can matter more than a small RAM difference. Datacenter locations were not verified consistently for the providers in this comparison, so confirm them on the order screen or with support.
Best Minecraft server hosting in 2026
For Minecraft, Shockbyte, BisectHosting and Apex Hosting are the most frequently mentioned options in 2026 guides. Basic plans are commonly quoted at about $3–$8 per month, but a realistic starting point for a smoother survival or lightly modded server is often reported as $5–$8. Treat those ranges as orientation rather than a guaranteed price.
Shockbyte for the lowest advertised Minecraft price
Shockbyte is the most frequently cited budget pick. Most reviews report about $2.50 for 1 GB, while one 2026 review lists Minecraft tiers at $3.99, $7.99 and $15.99 with unlimited player slots. “Unlimited slots” does not mean unlimited simultaneous performance; RAM, CPU time and the workload still set the practical limit. Choose the tier by actual memory and mod requirements, then verify whether the listed price is promotional and what renewal costs.
BisectHosting for value and modded Minecraft
BisectHosting is often listed at about $2.99 to start and is frequently described as one of the cheapest providers per gigabyte, at roughly $3 per GB. Another review lists $5.99 for 2 GB on shared CPU nodes and about $7.99 for a 2 GB premium plan. Those are different hardware classes, so compare CPU allocation and not only the RAM number. The provider is repeatedly recommended for modded Minecraft, making the premium tier worth considering when a large modpack produces lag on a shared node.

Apex Hosting for managed modpacks
Apex Hosting is commonly listed at $4.49 for 1 GB. Other reported tiers include $7.49 for 2 GB, $14.99 for 4 GB and $29.99 for 8 GB, which works out to about $3.75 per GB at the 8 GB figure. A dedicated IP is reported as an extra $5 per month. Another guide lists a $7.99 starting price and support for ARK and Rust, showing why you should select the game-specific plan rather than relying on a generic “starting at” number. Apex is most often recommended for modded servers and modpacks; check the launcher, loader and version you need before purchase.
Minecraft sizing checklist
- Write down the Minecraft edition, version and mod/plugin loader.
- Estimate concurrent players at the busiest time, not the average.
- List heavy features such as large modpacks, chunk generation, high simulation distance and automated farms.
- Confirm whether backups are included, how often they run and whether restores are self-service.
- Check the server location and test latency from the players’ homes.
- Use the refund window to load the real world and modpack before committing to a longer term.
ARK server hosting
ARK is more resource-intensive than a basic Minecraft world, and comparison guides commonly list starting prices from about $10 to $30 per month. The right plan depends on the ARK edition, map, mods, player count and whether you need support for ARK: Survival Ascended rather than the older edition.
GTXGaming for game-specific ARK plans
One guide lists GTXGaming’s ARK Basic plan at £9.99 per month with 8 GB of RAM and 10 slots. The currency, slot count and edition are material: a 10-slot Basic plan is not directly comparable with an unbounded or higher-slot configuration. The same provider is listed for Rust, with one comparison reporting Rust from $23.98 per month for 20 slots.
GravelHost for a 16 GB ARK configuration
GravelHost appears in one comparison at $24 per month for an ARK plan with 16 GB. That places it at the higher end of the cited ARK examples but gives a clearer memory target for a larger map or mod set. Confirm whether the quoted plan is for the edition you play, which maps are supported and whether the price is recurring.
ARK buying checks
- Confirm ARK: Survival Evolved versus ARK: Survival Ascended support.
- Check the exact map and mod installation method.
- Compare RAM and slot count together; a cheap plan with few slots may be appropriate for a private group.
- Ask about save backups and rollback after a crash or corrupted update.
- Verify region availability and whether changing locations requires a migration fee.
Rust server hosting
Rust plans commonly start around $10 per month for a small number of slots, but pricing models differ. Some providers charge by slot; one comparison cites Survival Servers at $0.16 per slot. That makes a per-slot plan attractive for a private group, while a fixed monthly plan may be simpler for a community that grows.
TheGameHosting for a reported low entry price
One comparison lists TheGameHosting as the lowest-priced Rust option at $1.90 per month and says it supports more than 60 games on one server. Because this is a single third-party figure, treat it as a lead rather than a confirmed offer. Before ordering, verify the number of Rust slots, RAM, CPU share, map size, wipe support, region and renewal price.
GTXGaming for a 20-slot example
GTXGaming is listed at $23.98 per month for 20 Rust slots in one guide. That is a very different proposition from a $1.90 entry listing: divide the total by the included slots only after confirming that both plans provide comparable hardware and wipe controls.
Rust buying checks
- Confirm the slot count and whether extra slots can be added without changing plans.
- Check wipe scheduling, map and seed controls, and plugin or Oxide/uMod support if required.
- Ask whether DDoS protection is included or an add-on.
- Test restart times and backup restoration during the trial period.
- Compare the monthly total at your expected peak slot count, not at the smallest tier.

The cheapest advertised plan is not always the cheapest usable server. Shockbyte’s reported $2.50 1 GB Minecraft figure and TheGameHosting’s reported $1.90 Rust figure are entry points for specific workloads. A plan that needs a RAM upgrade, extra slots, a dedicated IP and paid backups can cost more than a higher headline tier that includes those resources.
| Cost item | Why it changes the comparison | How to check it |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | More memory is usually required for modpacks, large maps and high concurrency | Compare dollars per GB within the same game and hardware class |
| Player slots | Rust and ARK plans often make slots explicit; a low slot cap can make a cheap plan unusable | Record included slots and the price of the next tier |
| Dedicated IP | Useful for some communities but often an add-on; one Apex report lists $5/month | Add the recurring IP charge to the monthly total |
| Backups | Cloud backups may be included on some plans, while others charge or limit retention | Check frequency, retention, restore method and storage limits |
| Renewal | An introductory price may not continue after the first term | Read the recurring amount at checkout, not only the banner |
| Refund or trial | It is your lowest-risk performance test | Note the duration and exclusions before installing the server |
Set up and test a hosted game server
- Define the workload. Write down the game edition, version, map, mods or plugins, expected peak players and preferred region.
- Shortlist two or three matching plans. Compare RAM, slots, CPU class, storage, backups, DDoS protection and the complete recurring price.
- Confirm compatibility before payment. Ask support about the exact mod loader, ARK edition, Rust plugin framework or Minecraft version if the order page is unclear.
- Create the server and set access controls. Change the control-panel password, enable the game’s administrator authentication and use a whitelist or password while testing.
- Install the real workload. Upload the intended world, modpack, map and configuration rather than testing only an empty default server.
- Invite representative players. Test from the locations and devices your group actually uses, including the busiest expected period.
- Measure practical behavior. Watch tick rate, memory use, restart time, save frequency, crash recovery and latency. A provider’s general player-limit claim cannot replace this test.
- Test a restore. Create a backup, alter or remove a disposable file, and confirm that you can restore without opening a support ticket.
- Decide during the refund window. Keep the plan only if the real workload remains stable and the recurring price matches your budget.
Common problems and fixes
Players see lag despite enough advertised RAM
Check CPU contention, simulation distance, entity count, world-generation activity and the server region. Reduce expensive settings, pre-generate terrain where the game supports it, and ask whether a premium or less-contended node is available. More RAM alone will not fix a CPU-bound server.
The modpack will not start
Verify the game version, loader, Java/runtime requirement where applicable, dependency versions and startup arguments. Remove the newest mod, read the first error in the server log and reproduce with a minimal set. If the host’s installer supports only a different loader, request a manual upload or choose a compatible plan.
The server loses progress after a crash
Check backup frequency and retention, then perform a manual restore test. Keep an independent copy of the world or save files. A backup that exists but cannot be restored during an outage is not an adequate recovery plan.
The bill is higher than the advertised price
Compare the checkout line items with the headline: RAM or slot upgrades, a dedicated IP, tax, a longer-term discount ending, and renewal pricing are common causes. Cancel optional add-ons and ask support for the recurring total before the next billing date.
Players have high latency
Move to a closer datacenter if the provider permits it, or choose a host with a region nearer the majority of players. Test at peak hours; a good result at midday does not guarantee an evening experience.

What is not established by the available comparisons
The published comparisons used for these figures do not verify a common uptime measurement, standardized hardware benchmark, universal support response time, datacenter map or market-share statistic. They also do not establish that one provider is objectively faster than another under identical game, mod and player conditions. Treat rankings as a starting shortlist and use the provider’s current order page, terms and trial period for the final decision.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose Shockbyte for a low-cost basic Minecraft start, BisectHosting when modded Minecraft value and CPU tier matter, Apex Hosting for a managed modpack experience, Nodecraft for flexible multi-game use with reported backups and DDoS protection, and a game-specific ARK or Rust plan from GTXGaming, TheGameHosting or another shortlisted provider only after checking slots, RAM, location and renewal pricing. The best plan is the one that survives your real workload during its refund window at a predictable recurring cost.
