How Fox works
Fox is a five-star Phantom Thief whose damage is built around enemy turns. His counterattack and Ice skills scale from Defense, so prioritize Defense rather than treating him like a conventional Attack-scaling damage dealer. The official July 24, 2025 announcement describes his ability to counter during enemy turns and an enhanced counter that can strike all foes; it names his Persona as Goemon in the Japanese build guide. At Awareness 0, Prydwen lists a 65% chance to counter when Fox takes damage from a foe’s skill, dealing Ice damage equal to 88% of his Defense. That is a game mechanic, not a guarantee of a counter on every hit. Fox’s output also depends on enemies taking actions that trigger his counter.
Why the shield matters
Fox’s shield is both protection and damage setup. While shielded, Skill 2 deals 30% more damage according to Prydwen; his passive effects also increase damage and pierce when he gains shields. This makes Defense and shield support useful to both his durability and offense.

What Keen Eye sets up
Skill 3, Keen Eye (審美眼), changes Fox’s next Inspiration into Imagination. Imagination guarantees the enhanced counter when it triggers, hits all foes, and gives Fox a shield and Taunt. Skill 3 also provides resistance and protection from mental and spiritual ailments as described by the build guides. Skill 1 deals Ice damage to one target and can Freeze it; Skill 2 hits five times, with repeated hits on one foe losing damage.
Recommended stats and equipment
Stats
- Defense: The core stat because Fox’s counterattack and Ice skills use Defense-based values.
- Critical rate and critical damage: Build these alongside Defense. Prydwen notes that Fox has no self critical-rate buff in its guide.
- Pierce: A useful secondary stat in the Japanese Ver. 4.8 guide’s recommendations.
- Speed: Aim to move before buff supports so Fox’s setup action does not consume their short-lived buffs. Prydwen gives 106+ Speed as its target; this is that guide’s recommendation, not an established universal breakpoint. GameX instead advises checking actual turn order and sets no fixed target.
Revelation cards
Recommendations differ between guides, so treat set names as version- and build-dependent rather than a single definitive answer. Prydwen recommends Opulence for Ice damage and Resonance damage. The Japanese Ver. 4.8 GameX guide favors Concentration / Ego as main sets and lists Opulence / Reflection as secondary choices, with Defense and critical stats in main-stat slots. Check the current effects and availability in your game before spending resources.
Skills
Both guides put Skill 3 ahead of Skill 2. GameX recommends 3 > 2 > 4 > 1, while Prydwen recommends Skill 3 > Skill 2 > Thief Tactics > Skill 1. Follow the ordering that matches the skill names and version shown in your client; the shared priority is Keen Eye first, then Bone-Chilling Cold.

Rotation: Keen Eye into Bone-Chilling Cold
- Use Skill 3 (Keen Eye). Prepare Imagination for Fox’s next Inspiration, establish his shield, and draw enemy attacks with Taunt.
- Use Skill 2 (Bone-Chilling Cold). Its damage benefits while Fox has a shield.
- Repeat the Skill 3 → Skill 2 pattern as resources, cooldowns, and enemy behavior allow. GameX gives 3 → 2 → 3 → 2 as its basic sequence; treat it as a starting loop, not a rigid script.
Set Fox’s turn before your buffers where possible. Prydwen also advises using Highlight after Fox has acted, so its duration is not spent before his turn. Check turn order, available SP, cooldowns, and the enemies’ actions rather than assuming one Speed number guarantees the right sequence.
Who should Fox team up with?
There is no guide-supported best team independent of your roster and region. Prioritize allies who provide Defense, shields, or useful Ice-team support, then weigh how often enemies act and create counter opportunities.
- Yuki: Prydwen names her for Defense buffs and a shield.
- Puppet: Prydwen identifies Defense scaling and party shields as relevant support.
- Other defensive or Ice supports: GameX’s Japanese guide also names defensive, shield, and Ice-team support options. Check regional availability and the current patch before building around a specific character.
Prydwen lists Cherish as CN-only, so do not assume that option is available in every region. To choose among supports you own, compare region and patch availability, Defense and shield effects, how often the team can exploit enemy-turn counters, and the investment required for your preferred weapon and Awareness level.

Weapon and Awareness investment
Weapon choice
The official July 2025 announcement identifies Shadowkiller as Fox’s exclusive five-star weapon and Jagato as his exclusive four-star weapon. GameX recommends Shadowkiller for a main Fox investment and prioritizing it before extra Awareness; Prydwen calls the signature a useful upgrade but not essential. The difference reflects investment assumptions: Shadowkiller is an option for players committing more resources to Fox, not a requirement for the basic Defense-and-counter build.
Awareness
Both guides emphasize Awareness 1 because every second Keen Eye triggers an additional Imagination. GameX names Awareness 2 as a further investment milestone. Awareness 6 materially changes counterattacks, but it is a high-investment option rather than a baseline build target. Decide on additional Awareness after considering your roster, region, and whether you value weapon investment more.

Patch and region scope
The most current version-stamped guide identified here is GameX’s Japanese Fox guide for Ver. 4.8, updated August 31, 2026. Prydwen provides global ratings but marks its Mindscape Core information CN-only. These sources are not interchangeable for availability or build details, and neither makes its recommendations official balance guidance. Confirm skills, equipment effects, and character availability in your own client before spending upgrade materials.
