If Warzone says you are in limited matchmaking, that is not by itself proof of a permanent ban. Activision lists limited matchmaking, temporary bans, and permanent bans as distinct enforcement states. Its published appeal rules also sharply limit what can be appealed: temporary bans and limited matchmaking are ineligible, while a permanent ban is overturned only if Activision determines the infraction resulted from a hacked Activision account.
The phrase “there’s no such thing” appears in the reported headline framing, but Activision’s published policy does not establish that as an official statement or explain any individual player’s case. Start with the status shown for the exact Activision account you use for Warzone.
What Activision’s status labels mean
Activision’s Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy, dated 10/10/25, covers Call of Duty titles beginning with Modern Warfare (2019), later console and PC titles, and Warzone Mobile. It says suspected accounts may be placed in limited matchmaking. From there, an account may return to normal matchmaking, remain or be placed in limited matchmaking again, or receive another penalty, including a temporary or permanent ban.
That distinction matters: a matchmaking restriction describes access to matchmaking; it does not, on its own, establish that an account has been permanently banned.

Read the status shown on the Ban Appeal page
Sign in to Activision’s official Ban Appeal page with the account linked to your Warzone play. It displays enforcement labels including:
- NO BAN DETECTED: Activision’s service did not detect an active ban on the signed-in Activision account.
- LIMITED MATCHMAKING: The account is in a separate matchmaking restriction state, not necessarily a permanent ban.
- STATUS: TEMPORARY BAN: The page identifies a temporary ban.
- Under investigation: An appeal may still be under investigation; that is not a final decision.
Check that you signed into the Activision account actually used for Warzone. A “NO BAN DETECTED” result refers to the account checked, so it does not settle the status of a different account or establish why a particular game session is behaving differently.

Can you appeal a Warzone ban?
| Status | Appeal eligibility | What Activision says |
|---|---|---|
| Limited matchmaking | Not eligible through the ban appeal route | “Temporary bans and accounts in a limited matchmaking state cannot be appealed.” |
| Temporary ban | Not eligible through the ban appeal route | Activision lists temporary bans as ineligible for appeal. |
| Permanent ban | May be overturned only in a specific circumstance | “Bans will only be overturned if we determine the infraction was due to your Activision account being hacked.” |
| Hardware ban | Not eligible for appeal | Activision says hardware bans are not eligible for appeal. |
For a permanent ban, Activision says the qualifying basis for reversal is its determination that the infraction was caused by a hacked Activision account. Its policy also says, “All infractions undergo a thorough review process by the security team before enforcement.” Activision says appeal decisions are final and asks players not to send repeated appeals through other channels. It does not promise a second review or disclose the detection evidence; the appeal page says it shares status after investigation to protect the integrity of its security systems and methods.
What to do if you believe the ban is wrong
- Confirm the account. Sign in to the Ban Appeal page using the Activision account linked to the Warzone profile you are checking. Review the exact displayed label and whether an appeal is still under investigation.
- Use the appeal route only when the status is eligible. If Activision identifies a permanent ban, submit the appeal through the official page and explain the relevant facts clearly. A temporary ban or limited matchmaking state cannot be appealed through that route.
- Check for signs of account compromise. If you see unfamiliar linked accounts or account changes, treat security as part of the problem rather than assuming it is only an enforcement dispute. Activision directs players who believe an account was hacked to its Hacked Account Recovery process.
- Wait for the stated investigation outcome. Activision says it provides appeal status after its investigation. Its published material does not guarantee a particular decision or timetable.
What “falsely perma banned” does—and does not—tell you
The May 11, 2026 Position Is Everything article matching the headline reports a support exchange and discusses possible interpretations. The official policy and appeal pages do not confirm that Activision issued the quoted “there’s no such thing” statement as a policy position, nor do they establish what happened to any particular player. Confusion between limited matchmaking and a permanent ban is one possible explanation for a disputed status, but the public information cannot identify the cause in an individual case.

Activision’s policy does not publish a false-positive rate or an appeal-overturn rate. A player’s account of an enforcement action therefore cannot establish how often bans are mistaken, and a restriction alone cannot prove that a ban was false. Use the account-specific status and the official eligibility rules to determine the next step.
