Short answer: shortlist CyberPanel, HestiaCP and CloudPanel for several WordPress sites on one self-managed VPS. Choose CyberPanel when OpenLiteSpeed, one-click WordPress and LSCache are priorities; HestiaCP when you want a lean, traditional web, mail and DNS stack; and CloudPanel when you want a focused Nginx panel for WordPress and other applications while keeping email external. ISPConfig is the specialist choice when one login must administer multiple servers.

Which free panel fits your VPS?

There is no universal winner because these panels make different architectural and service trade-offs. All can help you create and maintain multiple websites, but they do not provide the same web server, mail system, caching workflow, operating-system support or multi-server administration.

Panel Web-server approach Mail and DNS WordPress workflow Best fit
CyberPanel OpenLiteSpeed Mail and DNS available as panel features One-click WordPress and LSCache Operators who specifically want OpenLiteSpeed caching and WordPress-oriented automation
HestiaCP Nginx and/or Apache Built-in mail and DNS Traditional hosting-stack management Several sites, mailboxes and DNS zones on one VPS
CloudPanel Nginx No built-in mail stack in this comparison WordPress site creation, databases, file tools and cron jobs Simple application hosting with external email
ISPConfig Apache or Nginx Built-in mail and DNS General hosting administration Agencies or operators managing several servers from one login

The panels are free software, but the VPS, storage, backups, domain registration, DNS service and email provider may still cost money. A free control panel does not turn server infrastructure into a free service.

What “free” means when you host several WordPress sites

Each panel in this shortlist can be used without a recurring control-panel license under the conditions described by its project. CyberPanel’s getting-started documentation states that “CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed is free and open source.” Its product information describes a free foundation with unlimited websites and optional premium add-ons. Those add-ons are separate from the free panel and should be evaluated independently.

CloudPanel describes itself as “a free and modern server control panel to configure and manage a server with an obsessive focus on simplicity.” Its free status does not include a VPS, domain names, transactional email, off-site backups or guaranteed support.

Before installing, decide which services the VPS will actually provide:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Web serving for each domain and subdomain.
  • PHP versions and database engines required by the sites.
  • TLS certificates and automatic renewal.
  • DNS hosting, either locally or through a separate DNS provider.
  • Mailbox hosting and outbound email, if applicable.
  • Scheduled backups stored away from the VPS.

Separating these decisions prevents a common mistake: selecting a panel for its WordPress installer and discovering later that it does not provide the mail or multi-server functions you expected.

How the four panels differ

CyberPanel: OpenLiteSpeed plus WordPress automation

CyberPanel is the most targeted choice when your reason for using a panel is OpenLiteSpeed. Its official documentation lists multiple PHP versions, mail, DNS, Auto SSL, backups and one-click WordPress installation with LSCache for WordPress. That combination puts site creation, certificate issuance and cache configuration close to the WordPress workflow.

Choose CyberPanel when:

  • You want OpenLiteSpeed rather than an Nginx- or Apache-centered stack.
  • Built-in LSCache integration is important to your operating model.
  • You expect to create many WordPress instances and prefer a guided installer.
  • You may later use optional extensions, such as additional container-oriented tools, while keeping the core panel free.

Its trade-off is architectural commitment. Moving from an Nginx or Apache configuration to OpenLiteSpeed can require different rewrite, cache and troubleshooting habits. A plugin or server rule that assumes another web server should be validated before you migrate production sites. The available mail and DNS functions are useful if you want an all-in-one VPS, but you should still confirm the exact module and operating-system combination before deployment.

HestiaCP: a traditional all-in-one hosting stack

HestiaCP is the strongest fit when the VPS should host websites, mailboxes and DNS zones together. The comparison describes it as the lightest all-in-one option in this shortlist, using Nginx and/or Apache with built-in mail and DNS. “Lightest” here is a product-positioning comparison, not a neutral performance benchmark; no cross-panel speed test establishes that one panel serves WordPress faster than another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HestiaCP’s installation documentation requires a root account and recommends installing on a fresh operating system. Its documented minimums are 1 CPU core, 1 GB of memory without SpamAssassin and ClamAV, and 10 GB of disk. The documented recommended starting point is 4 CPU cores, 4 GB of memory and a 40 GB SSD.

Choose HestiaCP when:

  • You want mailboxes and DNS managed on the same server as the websites.
  • You prefer a conventional Nginx and/or Apache hosting model.
  • You are comfortable provisioning a clean VPS and running an installer as root.
  • Your sites can share a single-server control plane rather than requiring one dashboard across many machines.

Mail antivirus and spam-filter components consume resources. The 1 GB minimum explicitly excludes SpamAssassin and ClamAV, so a mail-heavy installation should not be sized to that floor. Plan capacity for the operating system, databases, PHP workers, logs, backups and traffic in addition to the panel’s stated minimum.

CloudPanel: focused Nginx application management

CloudPanel uses Nginx and concentrates on creating and operating applications rather than bundling a mail server. Its feature documentation lists WordPress, static HTML/CSS/JavaScript, PHP, Node.js and Python site types; MySQL and MariaDB databases; a file manager; cron jobs; user roles; IP and bot blocking; and free, automatically renewed Let’s Encrypt certificates.

CloudPanel’s support documentation lists a minimum of 1 CPU core, 2 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk. It supports Debian 11 and 12, Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, and both x86 and ARM64 systems. The same documentation identifies AWS, DigitalOcean, Hetzner Cloud, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure and Vultr as supported launch environments. Those are infrastructure options, not a promise that a particular VPS size or region is free.

  • Versatile applications: this server wallet can be widely adopted for serving, cleaning, gardening, cooking, baking, crafting and more; In addition, it can hold various small tools, such as check pads, napkins, cards, pens, recipe cards, menus and so on

Choose CloudPanel when:

  • You want a clean Nginx workflow for WordPress and possibly non-WordPress applications.
  • Email will be handled by an external mail provider.
  • Role separation, IP or bot blocking, cron management and a browser-based file tool matter.
  • You value a narrow, application-focused interface over an all-in-one mail stack.

The decisive limitation is mail. In this comparison CloudPanel does not provide a built-in mail stack, so domains that need mailboxes, aliases or local mail delivery must use an external provider and the appropriate DNS records. This separation can reduce the attack surface and operational burden of running mail, but it adds another service and administration boundary.

ISPConfig: the multi-server administration specialist

ISPConfig supports Apache or Nginx and includes mail and DNS in the comparison. Its distinguishing capability is management of several servers from one login. That makes it more compelling for agencies, staging-and-production setups or operators who expect web, database and mail roles to be distributed across machines.

Choose ISPConfig when the central requirement is not the simplest single-VPS WordPress setup but a control plane that can span multiple servers. If every site will remain on one VPS and you mainly want quick WordPress creation, CyberPanel, HestiaCP or CloudPanel may present a more direct fit. ISPConfig’s value appears when server topology and delegated administration outweigh a narrowly optimized WordPress workflow.

Resource requirements and capacity planning

Published minimums are installation requirements, not performance promises. They do not tell you how many WordPress sites a VPS can serve, because that depends on page generation, traffic, plugins, scheduled jobs, database size, object caching, media processing and backup frequency.

Panel Documented minimum Documented recommendation or qualification
HestiaCP 1 CPU core, 1 GB RAM without SpamAssassin and ClamAV, 10 GB HDD 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB SSD recommended
CloudPanel 1 CPU core, 2 GB RAM, 10 GB disk Supports Debian 11/12, Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, x86 and ARM64
CyberPanel Not stated in the supplied documentation Size according to OpenLiteSpeed, PHP, database, mail and backup workload
ISPConfig Not stated in the supplied documentation Size according to the number of servers and enabled services

Use the minimum only as a floor for a test installation. For production, reserve headroom for:

  • Operating-system and panel processes.
  • Separate PHP workers for concurrent requests.
  • Database buffers and temporary tables.
  • Media uploads, generated thumbnails and update packages.
  • Logs, malware scans and backup staging.
  • Mail queues and spam filtering if mail is local.

Disk capacity is especially easy to underestimate. A “10 GB” minimum can be consumed by the operating system, databases, WordPress media and one compressed backup. Store backup copies on a separate system and monitor free space before automated jobs begin failing.

Preparation checklist before installing a panel

  1. Choose the VPS size and location. Confirm CPU architecture, RAM, disk type, network limits and snapshot or backup options. CloudPanel’s documented supported environments include AWS, DigitalOcean, Hetzner Cloud, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure and Vultr, but the required capacity remains workload-dependent.
  2. Use a clean supported operating system. HestiaCP specifically says installation should be on a fresh operating system and must be run as root. Apply the same discipline to other panels: do not layer a panel over an existing web stack unless its documentation explicitly supports that path.
  3. Set a stable hostname and DNS plan. Decide whether the panel will host authoritative DNS or whether a separate DNS provider will hold the zone. Prepare A and AAAA records for each site and mail-related records if email is external or local.
  4. Plan the mail boundary. Select a panel with a mail stack if local mailboxes are required. With CloudPanel, arrange external mail first and keep website and mail DNS records distinct.
  5. Define backup destinations. A backup stored on the same VPS is useful for quick rollback but does not protect against disk loss, account compromise or a deleted server. Configure an off-server destination and test restoration before adding more sites.
  6. Inventory each WordPress site. Record PHP compatibility, database engine, disk use, cron jobs, staging needs, plugin licensing and whether the site sends transactional mail.

A practical migration and installation sequence

1. Install the panel before moving production data

Create the VPS, set the hostname, log in with the required administrative account and install the selected panel on the supported clean operating system. Do not point all production domains at the new server yet. First verify that the panel interface loads, the firewall rules are active and the intended PHP and database components are available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Create one pilot site

Add a single domain and database, issue its TLS certificate, and install a non-critical WordPress copy. Confirm that permalinks, uploads, scheduled tasks, administrator login, cron execution and outbound mail behave as expected. A pilot catches web-server-specific rewrite or cache assumptions before they affect every site.

3. Test caching and updates

CyberPanel users should validate the LSCache workflow and ensure that cached pages are purged after content changes. On Nginx-based panels, test the chosen page-cache or reverse-proxy configuration separately. In every case, test logged-in pages, shopping carts, forms and APIs so that private responses are not cached for other visitors.

4. Move DNS with a rollback plan

Lower DNS record TTLs ahead of the change when your DNS provider permits it. Copy files and databases, put the site into maintenance mode for the final synchronization, change the records, and keep the old host intact until the new site has passed functional checks. Do not delete the old instance merely because the new panel shows a green certificate.

5. Add sites in measured batches

Move a small group, inspect CPU, memory, disk and PHP error logs, then continue. Batch migration reveals whether a particular plugin, import job or traffic pattern is responsible for resource growth. It also keeps rollback manageable.

Operating multiple WordPress sites after setup

Updates and isolation

Keep WordPress core, themes and plugins current, but stage updates where possible. Use separate site users, databases and document roots so a compromise or misconfiguration in one site does not automatically expose the others. Restrict administrative access with strong authentication, least-privilege accounts and IP controls where practical.

TLS, DNS and renewals

CloudPanel lists free automatically renewed Let’s Encrypt certificates, while CyberPanel lists Auto SSL. Regardless of panel, verify renewal logs and test HTTPS after renewals. A certificate visible in the browser today is not proof that unattended renewal will work after DNS, firewall or rate-limit changes.

Backups and restoration

Keep at least one backup outside the VPS and retain versions long enough to recover from a delayed discovery of corruption. Test both a complete site restore and a single-file or database restore. A panel’s backup button is an operational convenience, not a substitute for a documented recovery procedure.

Monitoring and limits

Monitor memory pressure, disk use, load, database errors, PHP worker saturation, certificate expiry and backup completion. Set alerts before the disk reaches capacity. If a site consistently consumes disproportionate resources, isolate it on another VPS rather than allowing one installation to degrade every domain.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Choosing by “fastest” claims. The available documentation describes architecture and requirements, not a neutral cross-panel benchmark. Select the stack that matches your services instead of assuming a universal speed winner.
  • Installing on a preconfigured server. HestiaCP’s documentation calls for a fresh operating system. Existing web servers, firewalls and database packages can conflict with a panel installer.
  • Ignoring the mail split. CloudPanel’s application focus means no built-in mail stack in this comparison. Plan external mail and DNS records before migration.
  • Running local mail on an undersized VPS. HestiaCP’s 1 GB minimum excludes SpamAssassin and ClamAV. Mail filtering, queues and websites need more headroom than that floor.
  • Assuming a one-click installer solves compatibility. WordPress still needs compatible PHP versions, database capacity, filesystem permissions and plugin testing.
  • Keeping only local backups. A second copy on the same disk cannot recover from disk failure or server deletion.
  • Moving every domain at once. Pilot one site, migrate in batches and retain a rollback path.

Decision guide

If your priority is… Start with… Why
OpenLiteSpeed, LSCache and guided WordPress creation CyberPanel Its documented feature set combines OpenLiteSpeed, one-click WordPress, LSCache, Auto SSL, backups, mail and DNS.
Websites, mailboxes and DNS on one VPS HestiaCP It uses a traditional Nginx and/or Apache stack with built-in mail and DNS, plus explicit resource guidance.
Nginx application hosting with external email CloudPanel It focuses on WordPress and other application types, role controls, cron, security features and automatically renewed certificates.
One control login across several servers ISPConfig It is the only panel in this comparison designed around multi-server administration.

Final recommendation

For a single VPS running several WordPress sites, begin with CyberPanel, HestiaCP or CloudPanel according to the services you need rather than a generic performance promise. CyberPanel is the specialized OpenLiteSpeed choice; HestiaCP is the all-in-one web, mail and DNS choice; CloudPanel is the streamlined Nginx choice when email is external. Select ISPConfig when your architecture already spans multiple servers or is expected to do so. In every case, size the VPS above the documented minimum, migrate one pilot site first, and prove backups and recovery before treating the server as production.
