“Free” depends on the game and edition. The recommendations below distinguish free access from platform availability and optional purchases; check the store listing for the headset you use before downloading. The Titanfall 2 VR mod catalog describes a free PCVR campaign conversion with manual reloads, full-body IK, and Titan controls, but it does not establish a headset compatibility matrix. There is a major availability caveat: the same guide reports that the developer announced a sunset for November 1, 2026. Treat Hyper Dash as a play-soon option, not a durable recommendation. Its current download and online status can change around that date, so check the game’s live listing and service status before relying on it.
Best free Quest squad-combat pick: Population: One
Population: One combines squad combat with climbing, gliding, and building. It shares Titanfall’s emphasis on moving through a fight, although its battle-royale format and traversal are not the same as a campaign with wall-running or Titan controls.

The free listing applies to the native Quest edition. Steam currently says the PC listing is no longer available, so do not assume it is a free SteamVR download. Confirm the current Quest store listing for your headset and region.

Blaston turns shooting into one-on-one duels built around slow-moving projectiles and physical dodging. It is a good fit if you enjoy reading incoming fire and moving your body to evade it, but it is not a campaign shooter or a substitute for wall-running. The cited guide does not establish a universal free price across editions; check the store listing for your platform.

Best movement pick without gunplay: Gorilla Tag
Gorilla Tag uses arm-powered movement, climbing, and tagging rather than firearms. That can appeal if what you miss most is active locomotion, but it is primarily a social game, not a Titanfall-style shooter. The physical movement can be intense. Pricing may differ by platform, so verify the exact edition before treating it as a free download.
Best place to find community-made VR games: VRChat
VRChat is a social platform rather than one single game. Its official welcome page says it is “Available free on all platforms” and that “In VRChat, all the content is made by the users.” Users create worlds, some of which contain games and activities. It can be a way to explore community-made VR experiences, but those worlds are not a curated Titanfall-like campaign. Expect user-generated content and voice chat; choose worlds and communication settings accordingly.

What to know before downloading
- Check the exact edition. Free status can differ between native Quest and PCVR listings. Population: One is the clearest example: the guide identifies Quest as free, while Steam says its PC listing is unavailable.
- Check whether online service is still active. Hyper Dash has an announced sunset date. Rec Room is not a current online recommendation: the cited guide reports that its online service shut down on June 1, 2026.
- Match the game to your comfort with movement. Dashing, climbing, gliding, and arm-powered locomotion involve different kinds of physical movement. The Titanfall 2 VR mod catalog specifically cautions that rapid movement and wall-running warrant comfort evaluation; it does not confirm compatibility with a particular headset.
- Distinguish a free game from a free edition. Do not assume that a game is free on every store or that its optional purchases are required. Read the live listing for the platform you intend to use.
What about Pavlov?
Pavlov is a VR multiplayer shooter with several modes, but the Steam listing reviewed for this article showed it as paid. It therefore does not belong on a list of free SteamVR games. If considering another edition, check that edition’s current price rather than assuming the Steam listing applies everywhere.
